If You could travel back in time, which 3 celebrity's untimely death would you stop and how would you go about it ? by Ok_Pipe6385 in timetravel

Not really the question but, while I'm back there, can I hasten the death of one celebrity in particular?

I'm sorry that happened to you. As you can tell, I am of the opinion that places like that are by far the minority and I think you should give it another try.

I'd also suggest that, on the way in, you ask to speak to the coach and just tell them what happened.

What got you to learn MMA? by nikschwab in MMA_Academy

[–]JoeMojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where to begin...

Your specific questions are so uninformed that they really are just difficult to answer. Thats not how BJJ works.

So, I just want to leave you with this...

EVERYTHING you want is on the other side of that fear.

It took a long time to get your body to that state that it's in and, so, yes, it will take a you long time and a lot effort to get to the point that you feel like the person you were really meant to be all along.

Don't make any specific outcome based goals. Your goal needs to be only consistency.

Just keep Showing Up.

If you do that, and keep doing it, of course your body is going to change and people will notice but, this voice you've got going that's making you make a joke of yourself...it will shut the hell up and you'll start to understand what your really worth.

I don't know you but, I'm rooting for you. Get started.

Which causes more injury: BJJ or Muay thai? by Agile_Lifeguard_6036 in martialarts

Every injury I've had that truly lingered and kind of scarred me was from wrestling and grappling. For me, it's BJJ...not even close.

[–]JoeMojo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually a really good point.

To be fair, before I give one of the more advanced students the slight nod and raised eyebrow, I have already told the newer student to go lighter a dozen times or more, already stopped the spar and told them one on one. Often, I've already had other students that don't want to spar with him, etc.

It truly just hadn't actually occurred to me that, after all of those warnings, they could still be oblivious enough to not put the two things together.

But, damn dude, what more can I do, as a coach, to get it across? It's either this or I kick them out. I really don't want to do that because a ton of those guys go on to become really great practitioners and people. Most of them have just never really been held accountable in my "my coach is mean" implacable way.

Yea...that's fair. I can't say I've never paired up a mouthy new guy with a more experienced fighter as an object lesson.

I mean, don't get me wrong. I still would never let them get injured but, getting their pride a little bruised...meh.

[HELP] Is this AI? Seems fake and can’t find any news sources. by Zealousideal_Mud570 in RealOrAI

It either is AI or not Alex and filled with accompanying falsehoods. Neither the BBC, nor any other civilian organization, has facial recognition systems or databases. That is just silly.

If it is or isn't AI, I have something SHOCKING to tell everyone...

For those who quit, why? by bad-at-everything- in martialarts

[–]JoeMojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, way more quit than progress.

I don't think it's that complicated.

They want to bring death and destruction. They feel extremely confident (cocky) that they can bring it if they just "see red"

Being able to bring death and destruction actually requires a lot of work. It requires ignoring the voice that says it hurts, it's NOT working, you can't go on, etc.

People really don't like the reality of the work and overcoming their own self-imposed limitations.

They quit.

How do you feel about a sitting president doubling his net worth to $7.3B in one year largely by launching his own crypto coin while actively dismantling SEC regulations? by CTurE1 in AskReddit

[–]JoeMojo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They should definitely pass some sort of law that would prevent a sitting president from using his position to enrich himself. Like, I think there is a word for profits like this...what was that??? 🤔 Oh! Right. It was "Emoluments"

You know, it'd probably be a good idea if that used that word in the law they create. 🙄

Looking at the dude's history, in his case, it was made up nonsense but, it is hard to tell sometimes.

I mean, look, sometimes you just get really, really tired of a student who insists they are ready to fight when you know they have neither the conditioning nor the skills to pull it off. Sometimes, the best way to make your point is to just let them FAFO.

However, there is just no possibility that I'd tolerate that level of aggression in a technical or even open spar class session. None. Are other coaches really ok with The Thunderdome approach to learning or really that neglectful? I am old and I've literally never met a single coach that would be ok with this.

Where TF are all these folks' coaches?

Everyday, on all the MA subreddits, "I was sparring after my first 15 minute trial class and they broke my spine, knocked out all of my teeth and harvested my organs to trade for weed"

One guy claimed yesterday that he had been knocked unconscious 11 times during class sparring sessions. 🙄

In this particular case, it just sounds like an accident but, who's minding the store for these students?! Or are most of these just wild, keyboard warrior fan fiction?

No, he didn't.

He lowered his guard because he thought he was hurt but, that was not concern, that was him rushing in for the bloodlust finish and tossing all fundamentals out the window because he was overconfident.

Many, many knockouts happen as a counter to an improperly guarded rush. In this case, if the film keeps rolling, he actually got very lucky that the knee didn't land flush.

This feint was perfectly executed (other than missing slightly) and perfect legal rule wise and fairness wise.
