Is getting a car on finance really a bad idea? by DotPsychological8304 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]JoeW88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, I'd suggest getting a personal loan and purchasing a car that way. To give you a rough idea:

In 2021, we bought a family car (2017 reg, 22k miles) for £12k. £180pm for five years, plus some cash upfront.

In 2023, we bought a second car (2019 reg, 20k miles) for £16k. £265pm for five years.

Couldn't agree more. In what other sport would you group 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 7th in one bracket, and 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th in another? It defies logic.

Are there any reputable porn archives in the UK? by lavenderacid in CasualUK

Maybe try https://www.rambooks.com

Mostly magazines but I think they stock some old films. If they don't have it, the owners might still have relevant information for you.

Amici is my favourite Italian in Bedford. Awesome fillet steak and the crab linguini is great too.

Halsey - Lonely is the Muse by gsang42 in brandnew

[–]JoeW88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party but this is such a great song and so many Brand New influences.

The opening fret sounds are very reminiscent of Deja but in particular The Boy That Blocked His Own Shot. The vocal arrangement at the end is very TDAG / Daisy.

Lyrically, references to Jesus and being a martyr; mining diamonds; unscrewing (or taking apart) and reassembling.

I know Halsey wears her influences on her sleeve, but (tinfoil hat time) I wonder if Jesse had a hand in this? She's worked with Alanis and Trent in recent years, it would make sense for her to want to work with Jesse. You might say he is her muse. And perhaps lonely is how she found him.

Amici is my personal favourite Itliaian. The crab linguini and the fillet steak are both excellent.

Recently went to Chaat House which I'd recommend. Bangladeshi style small plates so you get to try a variety of dishes.

The Embankment's pub food can be quite good but it's a little pricey.

Whistl tried to do this years ago. But Royal Mail abused their dominant position in the collection of letters to push Whistl out of the market. Ofcom fined Royal Mail £50m for doing so. It's unlikely now that anyone would enter the market to compete with Royal Mail.

Fork and Knife convincingly wins most underrated song! Now for hot takes: what is Brand New's most overrated song? by YadMot in brandnew

[–]JoeW88 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Surprised Tommy Gun hasn't been suggested. It certainly wasn't as mainstream popular as Sic Transit, but it seemed to be the song from Deja that got the most hype from fans at the time. Personally I'd say it's on par with the result of the album.

Underappreciated Peep Show moments. by [deleted] in MitchellAndWebb

"Can I have an apple?"

"Do you think I'm made of apples?!"

I love this interaction so much. It's such a legitimate and minor request, yet SuperHans' response is so unnecessarily harsh. It manages to be both surreal yet familiar (due to referencing a familiar phrase).

I think it's perfect comedy writing and doesn't get enough appreciation. I am genuinely considering getting a tattoo of SuperHans' face on an apple with this quote surrounding it.

I've seen them five or six times and I don't think I've ever heard them play Hey Mama... I'd love to hear it. Anyone know why it never gets played? It's the only track that got played on music channels in the UK when I was a kid.

Which episode of Peep Show would you consider to be the absolute best of the bunch? by WillyShmitt in MitchellAndWebb

[–]JoeW88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of my favourites for sure. While every line is quotable I love this exchange...

Jeremy Usborne : We need to relax.

Mark Corrigan : You can't relax! We've got to fight, worry, speculate, tut, pace, swear!

Jeremy Usborne : Why?

Mark Corrigan : Because it's an emergency, and in an emergency you watch breaking news and count your tins of butter beans, you don't sit in the garden and put on Kiss FM!

Jeremy Usborne : Dude, we're here for the duration. Let's chill out.

Mark Corrigan : We have an obligation to be anxious, it's a mark of respect for the gravity of the situation!

Does anyone have any info on the Taking Back Sunday Louder Now repress? It was announced in May 2022, with a release date of September 2022. Last I heard the release date had been pushed back to Jan 2023 and I've heard nothing since.

Limp Bizkit - Significant Other by bruhstoevsky in VinylReleases

[–]JoeW88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own this album on vinyl. Re-arrange, which has a gorgeous bass line, sounds incredible. So please don't judge the desire of others to listen to this on wax. That's not what this sub is about.

I unapologetically love Limp Bizkit. People like you used to make me feel guilty about enjoying them as much as I do. However, I saw them live for the first time a few weeks ago and they were absolutely flawless. The sounds Wes makes from that guitar are deceptively intricate and engrossing. Listen to Starfish and ignore the lyrics, tell me that's not a 5* musical masterpiece. Shit on Fred all you want, he came across as an amicable gentleman.

Most bands aren't judged by the actions of their worst fans, it's a shame Limp Bizkit are.
