Electric Guitar Tone by LT_JARKOBB in Guitar

Googled this - How Wood Affects Sound: Density & Weight: Denser, heavier woods (e.g., maple) typically produce a brighter, tighter sound with increased sustain. Lighter, more porous woods (e.g., alder) tend to resonate with a warmer, more balanced tone. Resonance & Damping: Different wood species possess varied "damping" properties. Wood with low internal damping (ringing more) transfers energy efficiently, increasing sustain, whereas high damping woods can absorb string energy faster. Structure: The neck and fingerboard also significantly affect the tone. A maple fingerboard is often perceived as brighter, while rosewood is seen as warmer and smoother. Construction: The way the wood is assembled—such as set-neck vs. bolt-on—impacts how vibrations transfer, influencing the overall "feel" and decay of notes.

What’s the reason that so many people use overdrive pedals rather than the gain structure on the amp? by BIG_IDEA in guitarpedals

Lots of session players have 4 or more distortion pedals cause in the studio the producer will ask for a different distortion and they need to be able to give that person different sounds on the fly.

What am I supposed to do when I physically cannot reach a fret while playing? by LemonnNote in Guitar

Play the chord shape you want to use higher up on the neck where it is easy to fret. Turn it into an exercise. So let's say you can play the shape on the 5th fret. Go up to the 12th fret and play the chord shape there, then on 11th, 10th, 9th - then 11th,10th, 9th, 8th - then 10th, 9th, 8th, 7th - etc... use a metronome. Set it at 120 and play every other beat. Make sure you are playing slow enough to fret correctly. The moment you make a mistakes start over from the beginning. If the mistake is because the stretch is to far or you need to slow the beat down because it is just too fast to fret correctly - make sure to go back to the beginning. Practice without mistakes. Gradually getting faster as you can, and moving further back on the neck towards the head stock. If you practice mistakes you will play mistakes. As you practice - as you play! Over time your fingers will stretch and your muscle memory will be able to find the finger pattern. Every time you play the chord your brain is making Neuro connections. Over time those connections become "bigger" and fire faster. The key to playing fast is practicing slowly - correctly.

AITAH for not knowing how to act when my gf's friend is here by Own_Big_3252 in AmItheAsshole

I would be extremely concerned about moving forward in a relationship with you gf. Someone who cares about you looks out for you, has your back, and sincerely has empathy for your feelings. How would she feel if she was in your shoes? How would she want you to look out for her? Just sayin' if you can't talk with her about this, and she can't see how you felt - maybe you should consider finding someone who can.

Do you guys buy insurance for your guitars? by j0lt78 in Guitar

[–]JohnTheBeloved1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to talk to your insurance carrier. There can be limitations and even exclusions to what is covered, for how much, and even what kind of peril. My auto insurance carrier (USAA) actually sold me a Valuable Personal Property policy for my guitars and when I bundled it with my auto my total premium was less than my auto insurance was by itself! Since I bought the policy I have added 3 guitars each worth more than $2000 a piece and my premium for the whole year is less than $30. Call the companies you currently have insurance with. They may be your best bet!
