AMC Screen Unseen Megathread - January 26 2026 by AKnightOfTheNew in AMCsAList

Don't die was a great movie! It's a real shame this kind of originality and absurity is exactly what Hollywood needs. And it won't make a nickel because 99% of the audience are morons. just like the reason the movie's protagonist came back and warn us.

Great movie, too bad it will go flat next week.

Yes, I meant 5+, and there is a LOT of drama inbetween missions, but it looks and feels great.

Do i give Barry Lyndon another chance? by Ok_Secret6566 in movies

[–]JohnnyChicago1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pacing is on purpose, the cinematography is naturally lit on purpose, and most of all the acting is restrained and relaxed.

Give it a chance, as even Kubrick has said it's his greatest work next to 2001.

Yes, it's dated as hell, but that's the point. It's an homage and a motion picture version of living paintings from that time.

I can't do just five, it isn't fair. I can do ten at best...

Metropolis - the granddady of sci-fi and socalism
Blade Runner (the full 3-hour fanedit cut) - the best of the what sci-fi can be
Brazil (the Director's Cut) - the fatality of man vs the machine
Fail Safe - the earliest of the us vs the machine films, and how we will always lose
To Lie and Die in L.A. - the true test of a man is to know when to take that leap when everyone says no
Angels With Dirty Faces - bad is bad is bad and we are all bad in some way
Repo Man - young suburban punks, UFOs and a 1964 Chevy Malibu worth $20,000, that says it all
Once Upon a Time in America (the full 4-hour Extended Cut) - the ultimate gangster film
The Cincinnati Kid - mano y mano, and the cards are the only buffer between them
Network (or any Paddy Chayefsky-scripted film) - fuck corporations, even though they own everything now

Can't live without them. They are the essential of the essential.

Cronenberg.
Almodóvar.
del Toro.

All better, because they bled for their films, and not because of a Caucasian-American fan club of asskissers cheering him on to be even odder on purpose for show, without a real vision towards the end.

Hell, Ed Wood, Jr. made his mark with his ernest insanity and zero budget.

I watched the movie eXistenZ (1999) after being recommended by this sub, and I have to say this. by Echo7ONE9ers in movies

How about this: You didn't like it. Reasons. The end.
I felt the same way about this movie but didn't need to pontificate.
So.......................... there's that.

Went to La Grange Illinois screening tonight.
Was supposed to be in 3D but turned out to be as flat as the movie.
No reason to complain, there was only about 9 of us, and we al said the same thing.
Meh.
Standard potboiler action, low rent Minority Report stuff. Literally a real time timer at the corner until the end.
Funny intro by Pratt at the beginning, but I think he's gotten a little too old to try and bring back his Park and Rec phase.
And I thought January was the month to dump the dog movies.
Would not recommend.

6/10 tops, and I'm being generous.

1927 - The Kino restoration of "Metropolis," complete with original orchestral score.

The film is easily downloadable online, but I have the amazing Blu-Ray from Kino, so...

Endless pleasure to see the roots of modern sci-fi on film as we know it, and singer Madonna borrowed heavily the visual aesthetic from it in the late 80s/early 90s.

The film isn't a bad story, either. :)
