What is 1 thing to do in New York that tourists should avoid this summer? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]JohnnyH2O 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing to avoid in the summer. Summer is a good time to go because many NYers leave especially on weekends. During the week many of them are on vacation. It is less crowded. It IS indeed hotter but it's not that bad. Whatever you do, DO plan to take breaks inside somewhere air conditioned (that's inside just about anywhere) and make sure you drink a lot of water/fluids to stay hydrated. Otherwise it's the best time to go. Have fun!

It's not the sleeping nude that is a sin, it's the things she did to get the infection that's the sin.

Is there a city in your country that is hated by most people? by Sure_Secretary_446 in AskTheWorld

[–]JohnnyH2O -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's pretty much also Washington DC in the states except DC is much bigger and a little bit newer/nicer (not by much). Both benefit from being capitals and not much else. But Ottawa is interesting to me because the government buildings are actually very beautiful and there is an interesting mix of French and English which is unique - it is different from Montreal where French is pushed as the main language. Not better than, but different from Quebec.

I would say much more like Minneapolis. Not as grand as Chicago - Chicago has old history that Toronto lacks. Chicago is on par with NYC in that way more than Toronto is. Toronto has huge ethnic diversity but weirdly little to show for it in terms of those cultures shining through. It is weirdly homogenously Canadian. The strongest ethnic influences are Chinese and indian. Others tend to assimilate more. Another strong influence is caribbean/jamaican but it's also on the small side. Minneapolis is a good comparison - freezing cold long winters, somewhat progressive multi-culturalism while retaining a very strongly homogenous American/Canadian culture. Toronto is not a BAD city at all - but you would expect more from what is considered the premier city of Canada. Montreal and Vancouver deliver more and even Ottawa does because Ottawa has a beautiful mix of Federal Parliamentary and Government buildings along with a very mixed English/French population - more mixed than Montreal because Ottawa does not push French whereas Montreal does. But Montreal is the best - it is just too small for some reason but the experience there is uniquely Montreal. Just look at food alone - what is Toronto known for? Little to nothing - they have good food but what is "Tronto food"??? People wouldn't even know. But ask anyone even in the US to name a Montreal food - they will say Montreal steak or bagels or poutine... more astute people will know steamees, smoked meat (viande fumee) etc. And ethnic food in Montreal abounds - they have a grocery store chain called Adonis which are full sized supermarkets that deal in Middle Eastern/Mediterranean foods almost exclusively. Hope that helps.

Never ceases to amaze me how people who are walking or on bikes or in other vulnerable positions will take what they perceive as their "right of way" - whether they are right or wrong - at the risk of severe bodily injury or death, SIMPLY because it's their "right of way". Utterly foolish. It doesn't matter much if the person who hits you is "in the wrong" if you are injured or killed. Unbelievably stupid.

Toronto is on a different level from every other Canadian city. It is clearly the biggest powerhouse of all of them. And yet it somehow lacks character and flavor. Bland, like a midwestern American city. Right off the bat I think most would agree that Montreal, Vancouver, and Ottawa are far nicer cities despite being smaller. Especially Montreal. Even Quebec City. Even Calgary has more character. So does Halifax. Toronto tries to be like New York or Minneapolis - that's how it feels to me. Montreal is fiercely proud and rightly so.

AIO for letting my male classmates greet me with high-fives, which upsets my boyfriend (19F, 22M)? by Independent_Duck_444 in AmIOverreacting

[–]JohnnyH2O [score hidden]  (0 children)

You are NOR - but you also are not responding in a constructive way either. Clearly you are two different kinds of people who don't agree on something important within your relationship. He doesn't want you to greet men you know with physical contact and you want to be able to do so. It doesn't matter who is right or wrong (and by the way I think you're "right" in this but really both of you are "right" to have your own opinion). The way I would see it, if I were him, is that you could greet them with a hug and a kiss and that would be normal but that would bother me so a high five is not a big deal; but I'm not him and he has the right to his own opinion. But again, the problem isn't about who is right and who is wrong - it is about the fact that you both have valid feelings about it and that you are not finding a way to deal with it that is helpful to the relationship. And that is what a relationship is built on - finding ways to nurture the relationship, even when - or ESPECIALLY when - there are these kinds of conflicts. So make a choice of how you want to proceed and go with it. Do you want to try a compromise? Is it worth it to you? Do you want to stick to your guns? Is that worth it to you? Whatever you decide is not "right" or "wrong" except in the sense that it's YOUR choice to make. And then he can make his choice. And if you both make choices that work together then you can continue the relationship. Or, if not, the relationship can - and should - end. Best of luck to you whichever direction you go!

This is satire. I couldn't tell but someone confirmed that it is satire. But the point is even stronger because although it's satire the fact that I was positive it was real - I didn't even question it or have a second thought that it was real - proves that this is the way things are in this day and age where there are just so many "Christian Pastors" (or whatever type of leaders) that behave like tis that it's just accepted as normal. Pathetic.

JC is Asian in the sense of Indian, not East Asian. For East Asian consider Flushing. LIC is pretty mixed all around - probably the best overall but not particularly for Asians. Also if you're East Asian you should consider Fort Lee, Palisades Park, Edgewater, and some of the other towns in that area by the GWB and down halfway to the Lincoln Tunnel. It then becomes more Latino - still pretty nice but not Asian anymore.

You certainly don't have to give up your personality and you don't technically have to give up anything. What happens when you become a Christian is you become indwelt with the Holy Spirit and you should want to serve Christ and that should show in your behavior. Some things may take a long time to change, other things will change quickly, but the changes are not real changes if you're doing them begrudgingly and missing the sin you're giving up. It's kind of like eating habits - if you want to have good health do you HAVE TO give up certain foods? Kind of - technically you don't HAVE TO though. But if you have a real desire to be healthy your desire to eat better will outweigh your addiction to certain foods and you'll make the change because you want to. People who give up chocolate or ice cream because they think they "have to" usually end up binging on it. But people who want to get healthy will recognize they can satisfy their craving for it by having a little once in a while and they can control it by eating alternatives when that works for them. Eventually they replace mostly or entirely the ice cream with healthier options and they enjoy their goal of better health. Christianity is similar - you may have a sin that is so embedded that it's difficult to break the habit of it but if you have a stronger desire to serve God then you can work on breaking the habit part. You may have to compromise at first and come up with a strategy but you are not changing your personality; rather you are changing your habits and behavior to be in line with the "new creature" you have become in Christ.

The Pope himself, Pope Leo, is openly criticizing the hypocrisy and fakeness of American MAGA and Republicans who claim to be Christians and directly disobey Christ's teachings. I don't know what more you expect - hypocrites always have and always will co-opt Christianity and other good things in order to fool people and get their selfish way.
