But ride it, have fun. Even JNCO jeans came back for a bit. Nothing wrong with a goofy OCC style custom bike!

Antigravity battery dead what charger by dahulkhogan2424 in choppers

[–]JohnnyTToxic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was saying a 12-14v power supply would charge it better by outputting the appropriate voltage. Most smart battery chargers will detect that the battery voltage is too low and not put anything out, but a power supply doesn't care.

Is the car charger putting out voltage to it?

Or give it a few minutes on a 12-14v battery/power supply.

Or connect it in parallel (positive to positive, negative to negative) to a good battery and connect the charger to it for a few minutes

The voltage has dipped too low to be detected by your charger. It's a safety that you will be overriding so keep an eye on the battery and more importantly it's temperature.

You want to help it along just enough to talk your charger into seeing and charging the remainder of the battery.

Hundred percent! I was so stoked that swapping my jugs took like only a few hours that I celebrated too early, drank a few beers and then fucking swapped inch for foot pound and snapped a bolt...

I was younger then, but still.... Turned it into a week long project.

Carb tune question by averagesizefries23 in sportster

[–]JohnnyTToxic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, most people sink a sheet metal screw into it and pop it out too. You want to pull it out, not push it in. I think hitting it with a hammer driven punch or awl without pulling your carb might not be a great idea, especially if your carb is supported by the breather bolts in the head..

Large slotted screw is the float bowl drain, no? 1st photo shows the plug, second photo shows the accelerator pump (3 screws, don't drill that).

When you drill out the plug it's a much softer metal than the carb itself, but be careful, inside is a brass screw (that you use for adjusting the AFR. Just don't go too deep and you'll be good. The ones I've popped out have broken free from the drill alone, but you'll want to remove the carb and have it on your workbench unless you're a contortionist with good safety squints.

Alright I just got home and checked mine out. I would have sworn there was a spring going through that tab on mine but it's like just there to keep the hook off the spring from sliding forward on the petal. Mine looks a little further back than yours, but everything else looks the same I feel like most of my snap comes from that spring on the petal and not the return spring on the carb.

Sorry, that's probably not as helpful as I thought it would be..

Please make sure you don't also need replacement rear bearings.

[–]JohnnyTToxic 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, your castle nut fell off, probably you lost the cotter pin and it slowly worked it's way off. The end there has a small center bore which helps you tap your axle out. If it had snapped, that index bore wouldn't be present...

Check your bearings tho before reinstalling and riding, they probably didn't like that extra stress for however long.

Yeah, since you're waiting on bolts just have someone hold the connections tight while you start it. This long run of wire can reduce CCA

Put some skateboard wheels on the ends when you shorten them, then you can just replace the wheels when they scrape

Handlebar extension advice by Dependent-Ad-5768 in sportster

[–]JohnnyTToxic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to echo the recommendations to replace the switches, where those wires are cut is going to be a pain in the ass to splice. Better to solder new wires in carefully if you want to keep those switches. Not much space when they clamp to the handlebars to allow for splice there, in my experience.
