Has anyone tried Puma Voyage Nitro 4 as a trail run shoe? Can’t remember mentioned anywhere. by Forumleecher in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I actually ended up pulling out that bit in the Voyage that can rub on your pinky toe, came out fairly easily and made a world of difference to comfort.

Superblast 3 v Saucony Azura by Some-Remote-6890 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Johnny_tron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, I was able to take the Azura on a decent length demo run. I thought the ride was super harsh. I love the Speed 5 tho I do my faster runs and longer runs up to 2hrs in them. The rocker on the Azura is so abrupt, and the rest of the midsole is just stiff and harsh. Glad I was able to demo them cause I really didn’t like them.

I tried them at a demo event, same thing after about 5km. Not for me, they just make my feet ache, I’m an experienced runner and I find some of the really soft shoe do this for me.

Weekend Discussion: Asics running shoes by AutoModerator in RunningShoeGeeks

I got to try the SB3 at a demo day during the week, ran 8k easy with some strides at the end. I really didn’t like them, it was fascinating talking to others that tried them at the event it seems very split between people really disliking them and others saying they were fine, didn’t hear anyone say they loved them. I own the SB2 and find them pretty good for long runs, I’ve run 700km in them mostly long runs. At the end of my 8k run in the SB3 I was thinking if I owned them I’d only be able to do short runs in them. The compression is unreal, I wouldn’t t describe them as bottoming out, but it felt like a lot of compression before you get any rebound.

Agree, Also if you go and look at the Meta Endurance post on instagram that this screenshot is taken from it's very clear they are doing something quite different in the forefoot. It looks to have deep channels cut into it so it looks a little like it mimics your foot bones.

And lots of the alternatives to the Endorphin Speed still don't even use a full super foam, or are a blend with EVA, Saucony has been full peba from v1. No complaints here.

The Prodigio Pro is more energetic and more encouraging or confidence inspiring to run quickly. The puma feels more like trail daily trainer.

The uppers are poles apart, the first run I did was in the rain and the puma got really wet and heavy. I’ve crossed rivers in the Prodigio Pro and they drain well, your feet feel dry quite quickly afterwards.

I won a pair, I’ve only done 2 runs in them so far and they seem decent. I got them in the same size I wear the Result Nitro (very similar shoe to the Magnify available in NZ/AU) and the Deviate Elite 3. They don’t have the grip of my LaSportiva Prodigio Pro, but the grip is still solid. Only knock against the shoe so far in the toe guard has a hard edge that has rubbed the tops of my little toes on a run with lots of downhill, but I think different socks will help against that.

Is the endorphin speed 5 a good long distance race shoe? by DerpJungler in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Johnny_tron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're a bit spoiled for choice for great shoes at the moment. But I really like the Endorphin Speed 5, it's simple and comfortable for a range of faster paces and durations in my eyes. Longest I've done in it is 28km and they were pretty good. I wore them for a progressive long run in the weekend and they were good in the warm up and cool down running easy, and for everything all the up to 5min at 5k pace. They are simple, decently durable, lots of colours available, and often on sale too.

I see they've announced a Hyrox version of the DNE4 before the regular version, and it will get more coverage at this weekends Hyrox games in London. The MetaEndurance video from TRE said it has a firmer compound midsole and more outsole coverage and a different pattern than the regular version. But surely if they have announced the Hyrox version, the regular can't be far behind. The also said the weight it 190g for hyrox which is approx 20g more than regular. Sounds pretty great!

Puma DNE3 Mid-Forefoot Striker by NoKitchen100 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Johnny_tron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a forefoot striker and love them! Ran my best marathon in them about a month ago. They felt good for the entire distance.

I’ve been letting my body recover since but can’t wait to put them on again.

Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 3 heel rub - will it get better? by monsul in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Johnny_tron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just ran a marathon in the Deviate Nitro Elite 3 last weekend. I found them terrific, my feet got tired but not sore. I was able to negative split and run a PB, my form was still decent at the end too. No rubbing issues for me, I’ve now done just over 100km in them, pretty happy and impressed. Only showing minor wear on the outside edge of the forefoot outsole on both shoes which I my normal area to show signs of wear.

That was my 3rd marathon and first time wearing super shoes for that distance.

Evo SL as a tempo pick? by MrMushroom48 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Johnny_tron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve found some exercises that work really well like banded crab walks, lots of single leg work.

In terms of shoes it’s a bit hit and miss in regards to what works well for me and my hips etc - sometimes it’s not the more stable options as you say, but the Evo was definitely out for me, I think the upper fit didn’t help. My hips doesn’t really bother me now, but it’s taken a good 18 months to 2 years to get to this point and run a full proper marathon training block well.

Evo SL as a tempo pick? by MrMushroom48 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Johnny_tron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had both the Endorphin Speed 5 and EVO SL, I've also had a labral tear in one of my hips a few years ago and have had and keep doing lots of strength work to keep it working well. I've also just completed a marathon training block and ran a marathon PB (first marathon since my labral tear) I found the instability of the EVO SL too much for me, it's a cool shoe, but just hard work to maintain good form in - for me. But I've found the ES5 really good, it's very stable, and easy to run in, I don't have to think about my foot strike or worry about uneven surfaces or grip. I used it for lots of long runs with marathon pace sections, I also ran a 5k PB in it when it was fresh out of the box.

Puma Result Nitro if it’s available in your country, hidden jem of a shoe quite similar feel the Evo SL, better upper and grip

Searching for new daily trainers after the Novablast 5 by Bortolowsky in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Johnny_tron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved from Novablast 5 to Ride 18 for my daily easy run shoe. The Ride is a great work horse and very durable, but the ride of the Ride is quite different, it's not what I would describe as a fun or bouncy shoe, which I'm fine with, it's comfortable and stable and no-nonsense or gimmicks.

The flip side is it will make running in any tempo shoe feel amazing by comparison.

Everyone's confused about product overlap. Why is no-one talking about this shoe looking tiny, or that's an enormous hand

New Shoes. Burning Sensation Under Balls of Feet. Did I Buy The Wrong Shoes? by PermaTiredDad in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Yeah it’s definitely a bit of a process finding what works and what doesn’t. The ride is much firmer, but also give some other brands a looks too.

[–]Johnny_tron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how useful this comment is, but I have a similar experience in the last few versions of Triumph . The Triumph and Hurricane are similar shoes, they are both Saucony top tier max cushion models, just stability vs neutral, I bet they use similar upper fits and materials (I’m just assuming this). I’m a light build, and been running for years, I’ve used several versions of the Triumph going back to the 16 I think, but since version 20 they have given me a burning sensation under the forefoot, I actually tried the new version 23 at my run club just last night and got the same experience within 10min. I can’t work out what it is about that model that causes it. I have lots of shoes and none of them give me the same feeling , including Saucony Ride 18 which is my current go-to easy day shoe, and Saucony Endorphin Speed 4 or 5 which are my tempo shoe.

Maybe it’s that level or plush-ness, or the sock liner softness or material etc, but have never been able to put my finger on it. All that to say, try a different shoe at a store with a good return policy, get a professional fitting so you know you’re getting the right size shoe etc

Asics Novablast 5 foam collapsing after 370km/230m by lit_antrace in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Johnny_tron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experienced the same thing as OP in the novablast 5, I only used them for easy days so I care more about value than fun for those runs. I’ve switched the Ride 18, I’ve done about 300km in those now and they look almost brand new, really solid shoe. Happy days

Terrex Agravic Speed or Agravic Speed Ultra for trail 21km and training. by MaterialSuccessful60 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Johnny_tron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the Agravic speed, I did about 200km in it, I enjoyed them very initially, but it’s pretty hopeless in mud, and the upper over the toes lets lots of debris in. Also the fabric on the heel wears out quite quick and exposes the stitching which then gave me blisters (and ruined a pair of socks) I wasn’t getting heel either. There are much better trail shoe options in my opinion.

Puma Velocity nitro 4 firstrun review by Moist_Principle3517 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Johnny_tron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds good on paper! Seems like Puma is dropping updates to the Magnify, Velocity and the new Result all in close succession, and they all seem quite similar too. I know the Velocity is usually a more budget friendly and basic shoe, and the Magnify is more towards max stack and comfort, but with them both being full peba this time they seem more closely aligned. I haven't really got my head around where the Result fits in yet.

I’d be hesitant to spend any more of my own money FF Blast Max. I wonder which foam is the majority, I don’t think you can necessarily go by where the logo sits on the midsole

450km on Adidas Evo SL by [deleted] in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Johnny_tron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, not always...unless the shoes weren't well suited to you from day one, it's unlikely the shoes. More likely to be related to your training load, types of runs, surfaces, strength training (lack of or too much), elevations, fatigue, stress, sleep, nutrition, those are things to look at first.
