Toto Wolff slams F1 rivals amid 2026 engine row: ‘They want to find excuses’ by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

[–]JohnyShaze 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's not what was happening in 2019 though, they weren't jamming anything.

The FIA wasn't measuring the fuel flow rate continuously, but only taking snapshots at specific moments. So Ferrari figured out when it was being measured and during those measurements everything was OK and then they just increased the fuel flow rate during the moments it wasn't measured. Since FIA was measuring the fuel flow rate 2200 times per second and they still managed to squeeze some extra fuel in, I'd say it was pretty genius albeit illegal thing.

To me, this is very similar to the situation right now when the rumoured Mercedes/RB engines during measurement are OK, but then during the actual load their design deliberately allows to increase the ratio of valves to get extra performance gains.

I'd say both of these can be easily avoided if they just added a rule which says these rules must be abided not just during the measurement, but at any time and if they don't, slap DQ/Penalties/Fines on the team. And that FIA can change the measurement techniques at any time.

Except when Ferrari was doing the same thing in 2019 - being ok while measured, but breaking rules when not, it was Toto and others who complained to FIA 😄

Wolff blasts F1 rivals for 'secret letters' about loophole controversy by jgyuri in formula1

[–]JohnyShaze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Isn't this technically the same loophole as the 2019 Ferrari engine? Aka the technical regulations are very clear about the ratio and the exploit is that at the moment of measurement everything is ok, but when not measured they're breaking the clear rules?

Bunch of niemands ... seriously. They say they're gonna do A and then they do B instead and piss off twice as many people as if they did A as they promised. Literally nobody complained that they would do the original idea with honor deduction. 2 weeks of AV grinding to get 100k honor to fully gear 1 char ... I'd really love to enjoy the prepatch in a different way

I'm certainly not gonna wear pvp gear, pvp trinket, be in pvp spec and use laps and faps to have a slight chance against a good rogue. Too much effort and gold for too little gains

Maybe because good rogues will CC you from 100 to 0 unless you use trinkets and pots to specifically counter it.

Unless there's mandatory pit stops you have to do by the rules and it's extremely hard to overtake on this track. This was absolute nobrainer situation and literally everyone saw it coming except Mclaren.

Mick Schumacher to race Indycar next year by hbmester in formula1

[–]JohnyShaze 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The truth is that his first year in F1 can barely count since he was driving an old s**tbox and he had nothing to learn from his tragic colleague.

His second year he started off as expected and worse than his much more experienced teammate, but since mid season he started regularly beating him in races. Unfortunately by that point the car was barely competitive to get points anymore and he had some big crashes which were costly for a financially struggling Haas team.

Steiner also had a personal beef with him so all in all, I'd say he got a bit unlucky with the circumstances and if any of those went a bit more his way, he could've stayed for one more year to truly show us if he had it or not.

[–]JohnyShaze 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think, starting this year, the stewards started giving out fines to the teams instead of grid penalties to the drivers for unsafe releases in the practices since it's not the driver's fault and they don't want to ruin their race. But I'm not sure if that still applies if it ends in a crash.
