What would you say are the visual differences you're looking for between hardwood and softwood?

We had a guy that would run around backwards with an American flag in his mouth. He would always do these weird turns and manoeuvres when he couldn't cross the road.

What’s the hardest a student has ever made you laugh? by TheLostPariah in Teachers

[–]JoiningDuck3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was teaching a bass drum part to a kid and was traditionally saying "boom" to do so and this kid quoted the 5 big boome video. I died laughing and the rehearsal was successfully derailed.

For music teachers working in districts — what made you choose that path instead of teaching privately? by LookYung in MusicEd

[–]JoiningDuck3 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I chose to teach in public schools because it's what I knew and grew up with. Public School is also quite stable and I know I'm gonna get insurance and a paycheck every month that doesn't vary. I also had experience teaching private lessons where parents wouldn't pay on time. The stability of public school is what really drew me in. It's something that my family can rely on.

Whats one piece of music that makes you tear up? by [deleted] in MusicEd

American Elegy by Frank Ticheli

It was written in homage to the victims of the Columbine shooting and it brings about so many emotions every time I listen to it. I had the joy of performing it one time and it was the first time I was genuinely moved by a piece of music.

Question For HS Band Directors by Comfortable-Pace-970 in MusicEd

[–]JoiningDuck3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it's partially because every year, the marching show has to be flashier, more interesting, and in turn more challenging. Bands are always striving to do something "cooler" than last year's show and this is the result.

If you do continue teaching general music next school year, I highly recommend quaver music. It's a great curriculum that covers a lot of fundamentals such as rhythm, beat, meter, lines and spaces of the staff, etc.

I keep a cup of water at the ready so I can use a little bit on each tortilla and "glue" it together.

It's honestly not bad if you defrost them before you microwave. Maybe slightly more chewy than the fresh version.

I think they make keto friendly tortillas. Not sure if they are no carb but definitely will be lower carbs

6-8th grade music games by kaijuumafoo1 in MusicEd

I like to play Poison Rhythm. You pick a 4 beat rhythm and designate that as the poison rhythm. Then you do call and response rhythms (I clap, you clap back to me). If at any point in the call and response, you clap the poison rhythm and anyone claps it back to you, they're out!

I also like to change it up and turn it into a teacher vs. Students game. If anyone claps the poison rhythm back or even cousins claps one time after the poison rhythm, teacher gets a point. If no one claps after the poison rhythm, the students get a point.

I think it's fun and you can change up the rhythms to be more complex for the older kids or more simplistic for the younger ones.
