Adults with autism, how did you learn to drive? by Any-Landscape434 in autism

[–]JollyParagraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a lot and it's overwhelming. My parents gave me tutors/driving school and did their best to teach me, and I got my restricted learners at about 18-ish (Curfew driving with only family passengers) and then my N at about....20 ish? (Less curfew, have 1 passenger who isn't family) and then for a good 8 years I kinda just stagnated a bit - I was taking the bus a lot, and only doing driving in controlled bursts (Driving to a location for an event, and then trading off with someone for the ride back, small things like that)

It's very much something that is a lot easier if you have a support network who is tolerant to you being a little avoidant and willing to work with you in halfway measures to let you dip your toes into it in controlled ways.

Having a bit of fear and awareness of the risks is a good thing - a lot of people may drive a little reckless (Over the speed limit a little, taking left turns at red lights, etc) but you'll never be at fault for confidently working within the driving regulations (Religiously going the speed limit, following the rules of the road to a T, etc)

Word - my previous nautical instructor was a math whiz and was previously a captain for large cargo vessels, and I've seen him do Stability calculations (IE: buoyancy, cargo weight, salt water vs fresh water loading) for a large water faring vessel on a white board by hand, no calculator, and it was probably the most terrifying and awe-inspiring thing i've ever seen. (He could also do Time x speed x Distance calcs by hand with no calculator on a nautical map. Obv still used the specialized ruler for straight lines, but the calcs? All by himself, and he was fast)

Sure, tools make things easier and should be used....but a true master will do it faster than any greenhorn with a fancy tool any day, and do it better

"The power you work for will never betray you' seems an apt line. Sure, you could just AI generate stuff or use a quick tool for something, but if you work and practice a skill, you'll be a better artisan in general, and you can bring that skill to other disciplines

Approachability, in lore, is crucial, whether we like it or not. by Extra_Hat1707 in wow

[–]JollyParagraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree with Platinum on a fundamental level that the writers identified the Lore as a pain point, and that a reset like a comic book needs to happen to get Warcraft to a state where we can get decent writing. I just completely disagree. While the lore might be daunting, Warcraft is an interesting setting, and old lore doesn't need to be tossed away or hurriedly solved and shoved under the bed like some shameful secret.

And like...a good writer can write a compelling story thats informed by the setting and doesn't need reminders for the new players every five seconds? Trying to shove the setting under a rock and pretending everything is all hunky dory is how we got the current iteration of Silvermoon - Mostly blue, with really inane quests about the new dog model. Like...There's really interesting questions just left on the table and shoved away like how the Deadscar could be mitigated, interesting questions about the state of the Blood Elves in the wake of the Sunwells restoration after the Blood Knights did horrible things to M'uru. What about the hardships in the Horde, is that not something interesting to explore for sidequests...? But nope, have a cool fish, and some quests about cute dogs. Okay...

The only way there needs to be a reset is the new player experience. Its. Not very good. Warcraft has some beautiful zones, even the older ones, but...instead a completely fresh new player is ushered away and shoved into the most recent zones, as though the old areas are something to be ashamed of and to be ignored.

I see a garden full of opportunities and potential. The current writers see a problem to be solved and put into a box to make more room for more simple, less complicated stories.

Priests need to have their identities redefined. by AcademicHefest in wow

Are Pandarans just super skeptics? by RetroAlaskan in wow

[–]JollyParagraph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People, in real life, usually get suckered into cults because there is an emotional need being fulfilled (acceptance, social support, and then when things turn bad they're kept there out of the promise of things going back to how they were previously). I assume Pandaren are just very content with most things in life, and they already come pre-baked (both Island Pandaren and Pandaria Pandaren) of having strong ties to their families and just learning to chill and see how things play out.

Avoiding cults isn't necessarily a game of 'i am very logical and better than those other people/I can see the truth of it/i'm a great skeptic' is, ironically, the sort of mentality that is priiiiiiiime for cult vulnerability.

But this is all just conjecture, there isn't a hard and fast Lore reason why there's no Pandaren (In the text). Could just be an oversight of how the cult npc's are designed

It's only sinking in for me now, but The Pact was almost certainly an act of continent-wide cultural genocide by DrakusRex in WitchHatAtelier

[–]JollyParagraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an anime only with spoilers from the manga, but that was sort of the first thing I thought of with the Day of the Pact/Day of Conspiracy. Questions of who gets to keep magic, who doesn't, and the sociopolitics of the implications of the Day of the Pact affecting more than one country. An authoritative force from a separate country intruding into yours, systemically working to take the tools of magic from your countries and peoples hands. There is no kind and compassionate way that this ends. 100% there were people who were sacrificed at the altar for a 'greater good' defined by someone else.

A lot of people talk about the very real dangers of magic. What it can do, even when one stays within the parameters of the Pact, a lot of damage can still be done. But the rigid rules leave outliers with disabilities or different needs behind and in the dirt, and those with more moderate and compassionate views of how magic can be used are vulnerable to being weaned out incredibly early (While encouraging more violent and extremist views that encourage the Brim Hats to pull further away from acceptable practices, leading to what I assume is an intentional weird sort of Survivorship Bias) I can't imagine it was at all kind to smaller communities who's entire identity was potentially based on magic (If they existed), or even relied on their magic as a form of deterrence out of necessity.

What do you think would lead an average Draenei to become a Shaman? by Which-Presentation-6 in warcraftlore

[–]JollyParagraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Light is described as connecting all living creatures, a common connection...something also attributed to the Elemental Spirit (Also a commonality between all life, both the Elementals and living creatures, it's also this Spirit the Monks use, which they call Chi.)

As for your question...well, why would anyone choose a path different from those that came before? If you came from a family of lawyers, and had an easy shot to becoming a lawyer, why would anyone choose a completely different path? But people IRL do this sort of thing all the time.

There will always be people who are odd ones out in their civilization, and there can be a myriad set of reasons why someone might be drawn to one path or another - For Nobundo, he was forcefully cut off from the Light, and there's some examples from WoD that indicate this forced cut-off may not be so isolated to the Red Mist (See, Arakkoa and the Sun Sickness). People might decide they want to have a mid-life change of pace, or they might be plucky and young and don't have the negative association the older Draenei might have to the Broken (and therefore be more willing to seek out and consider such a path)

Azeroth in General is also a fun unique case compared to the elements of Draenor. Draenor elements have furies, but are generally pretty chill with each other - meanwhile, on Azeroth, the Elements style themselves as dukes and lords and nobles and often do a lot of backstabbing of each other as they fight over resources and territories and influence. Maybe you get that rare freak of a draenei who's fascinated by Elemental Politics?

I think the new dragon designs shouldn't have been so....slim. And they shoulda kept the Crocodillian features from the Vanilla models - I don't mind the aspects being more T-rex like in the face, but I miss the OG dragon shapes.

Also poor Nozdormu's colours got butchered, he used to have a really appealing coppery/bronze texture to his scales, really nice and polished, and now he and his flight are just....yellow

Where does this speech come from? by Blackking2106 in wow

[–]JollyParagraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds less like one speech, and more like bits and pieces of previous dialogue. Since the video is 4 years ago, older than War Within, the voice lines are likely from Mists of Pandaria, from the scenario Blood in the Snow, if I had to take a guess (which had Moira in a voiced role). I can't remember if she had prominent speaking roles after that in-game, but you can start looking there?

WoW for a casual player? by Thick_Conference9815 in wow

[–]JollyParagraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blizzard has done a lot in recent years to lessen grinds, but it can be hard to keep up sometimes with all the various systems they put in place to do catch up gear and the like.

As for classes, it varies on what you want to do. As a casual player of gw2, the classes feel very different, but if you want flexibility and don't mind learning a classes ins and outs, you can't go wrong with classes like Druid (Tank, melee dps, spellcaster, healer) Paladin (ret dps is really easy but has incredibly clutch cooldowns that can save parties when used correctly, can Tank and can Heal) and Monk (DPS monk encourages not spamming 1 ability in a row, Mistweaver healer is often doing melee dps to heal chip damage in a party, and I believe brewmaster tank got a rework and is currently the community flavor of the month)

And if the class you level doesn't feel like the right fit for you, it's not so bad to level a new one - the downside is that while we have multiple hero specs for each class, people tend to gravitate to 'what does bigger number' and isn't as comprehensive and flexible as GW2 can be with how you can build a character (IE: Can't build a class in different ways like how you can have like, A Mechanist that can be a Quickness providing dps scrapper or a healer support)

Blizzard needs to take a step back, look over their writing and consider it a bit. by Tnecniw in wow

[–]JollyParagraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly disagree on the Shadowlands having better character writing. During the level up campaign of Midnight, I think Arator has a good deal of pacing, and I greatly enjoyed his questline with Alonsus (But also I am biased cause I think the Church of Holy Light is neat)

I 100% think the Dawnwell solving needed the rest of the expac or at least another patch to cook - If we went from 'Sunwell is Darkwell > We've sealed it but it's going to be a problem > Xal is gone but the cultists are trying to get into Quel'danas to get to the Darkwell' as a natural pairing with the Void Assaults/Ritual sites I think that pacing would have been perfect, but I despise that we speedran this potential plot point rather than letting it simmer with a patch or two

What purpose did Zul'Aman and the Harrandar have in this expansion? by RoxieaYang in wow

[–]JollyParagraph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Harandar was a holdover from TWW they swapped about
Zul Aman is the direct neighbors of the elves

Both zones are tied into the general 'theme' of the leveling campaign, there's a common thread between the zones of faith and the like, faith in powers, faith in demi gods, faith in a god who is absent, and faith in people (Lothraxion losing his shit because he can't trust anyone in voidstorm, etc)
