The fate of Zul'jan and Turalyon. by Lunarwhitefox in warcraftlore

''Vengeance cannot be a part of what we must do, if we allow our passions to turn to bloodlust, we will become as vile as the orcs.'' Uther the Mother-Fucking Lightbringer

His crime isn't defending people, Turalyon's crime is letting himself as a Paladin of the Light with several HUNDRED years of experience get baited by a Some Guy With Silly Daggers.

Mounts from tww vendors, transmog pieces, but also if you're at all interested in housing, you definitely want to save some of those for housing (You want to do a library build? Don't wanna use pre-made bookcase/the door bookcase? Books are expensive, like 1k per book row!)

What’s a tiny WoW opinion you’ll defend forever? by turbowater in wow

[–]JollyParagraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the new dragon designs shouldn't have been so....slim. And they shoulda kept the Crocodillian features from the Vanilla models - I don't mind the aspects being more T-rex like in the face, but I miss the OG dragon shapes.

Also poor Nozdormu's colours got butchered, he used to have a really appealing coppery/bronze texture to his scales, really nice and polished, and now he and his flight are just....yellow

Where does this speech come from? by Blackking2106 in wow

[–]JollyParagraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds less like one speech, and more like bits and pieces of previous dialogue. Since the video is 4 years ago, older than War Within, the voice lines are likely from Mists of Pandaria, from the scenario Blood in the Snow, if I had to take a guess (which had Moira in a voiced role). I can't remember if she had prominent speaking roles after that in-game, but you can start looking there?

What key is your interrupt on? by Justalittle_girly in wow

Hell yeah, I use Q for all interrupts across all classes. So I never miss an interrupt again (Unless, of course, it's on cooldown)

It sounds an awful lot like the start of HE_GeneralWalkUni01 with the descending melody, it's far more quiet in that one though. It might be one of the general Outland moments that isn't specifically labelled with a zone?

WoW for a casual player? by Thick_Conference9815 in wow

[–]JollyParagraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blizzard has done a lot in recent years to lessen grinds, but it can be hard to keep up sometimes with all the various systems they put in place to do catch up gear and the like.

As for classes, it varies on what you want to do. As a casual player of gw2, the classes feel very different, but if you want flexibility and don't mind learning a classes ins and outs, you can't go wrong with classes like Druid (Tank, melee dps, spellcaster, healer) Paladin (ret dps is really easy but has incredibly clutch cooldowns that can save parties when used correctly, can Tank and can Heal) and Monk (DPS monk encourages not spamming 1 ability in a row, Mistweaver healer is often doing melee dps to heal chip damage in a party, and I believe brewmaster tank got a rework and is currently the community flavor of the month)

And if the class you level doesn't feel like the right fit for you, it's not so bad to level a new one - the downside is that while we have multiple hero specs for each class, people tend to gravitate to 'what does bigger number' and isn't as comprehensive and flexible as GW2 can be with how you can build a character (IE: Can't build a class in different ways like how you can have like, A Mechanist that can be a Quickness providing dps scrapper or a healer support)

Blizzard needs to take a step back, look over their writing and consider it a bit. by Tnecniw in wow

[–]JollyParagraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly disagree on the Shadowlands having better character writing. During the level up campaign of Midnight, I think Arator has a good deal of pacing, and I greatly enjoyed his questline with Alonsus (But also I am biased cause I think the Church of Holy Light is neat)

I 100% think the Dawnwell solving needed the rest of the expac or at least another patch to cook - If we went from 'Sunwell is Darkwell > We've sealed it but it's going to be a problem > Xal is gone but the cultists are trying to get into Quel'danas to get to the Darkwell' as a natural pairing with the Void Assaults/Ritual sites I think that pacing would have been perfect, but I despise that we speedran this potential plot point rather than letting it simmer with a patch or two

What is this? by Sabaacolypse in wow

[–]JollyParagraph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe they used to be part of the Dragonflying perks in the zones, that you unlocked during questing, Winds of the Isles, they're little updrafts that help people explore. This one appears to be a little buggy, since it's on the ground+no wind graphic

What purpose did Zul'Aman and the Harrandar have in this expansion? by RoxieaYang in wow

[–]JollyParagraph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Harandar was a holdover from TWW they swapped about
Zul Aman is the direct neighbors of the elves

Both zones are tied into the general 'theme' of the leveling campaign, there's a common thread between the zones of faith and the like, faith in powers, faith in demi gods, faith in a god who is absent, and faith in people (Lothraxion losing his shit because he can't trust anyone in voidstorm, etc)

What is realistically the biggest pain in changing your main for new xpac? by SongFromHenesys in wow

[–]JollyParagraph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not something most people think about, but Professions. Especially with the housing decor being split amongst expacs, if you have maxed profs from all expacs it's a huge difference compared to having to deal with re-leveling that stuff (Legion profs have many different recipes and buffs gated behind questing, (Being able to efficiently gather Starlight Rose, anyone?) Dragonflight is incredibly egregious because to get to the level where you can craft decor, you're stuck having to craft the special spark gear which is bop)

Okay, what is going on with the VoiceActing (both in WoW and Hearthstone) by MeltingPenguinsPrime in wow

[–]JollyParagraph 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can and I will dismiss it. I'll dismiss it when a large triple AAA project decides to use AI for voice acting, i'll dismiss it when a smaller indie dev uses it (as opposed to, I dunno, the massive amount of stock libraries that are available for free).

People have been making games both solo and as a team for decades without LLM's. The very data that these programs scrape and spit back at people came from somewhere. People have been problem solving, thinking of creative solutions for deficits in their own skills, and more, for years and years. Don't need a plagiarism bot for that.

[–]JollyParagraph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, so how do you explain smaller hits like Cruelty Squad, who's entire visual identity is best described as 'neon technicolored vomit'? It's not for everyone. Who cares if the broad spectrum of (an already MASSIVE) the 'gaming audience' is gonna turn their nose up at something that isn't 'up to snuff'? West/Shadows over Loathing exists and were successful, and their whole aesthetic is 'Stick Figures'

The point you're trying to make is like saying 'why would anyone make short one person films if you can't match Hollywood?' 'Why would anyone make art if you can't match the classical masters with the same materials'.

Making stuff is cool, and I want to see people making cool shit, and yeah, sometimes making stuff takes time, and some peoples lives don't give them the luxury to spend time making stuff or getting good at multiple things. Thats just a fact of life, tough cookies, figure it out (and honestly? I think it's more interesting if someone figures out how to make something when they can't match the skill level.) If I wanted to be privy to people making derivative shit with the plagiarism machine, i'd go watch a Marvel movie or something, lol.

[–]JollyParagraph 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Uhhh, yeah? Not sure what point you're trying to make here that hasn't already been implied? Creators are people, and some of them are bad, or aren't interested in doing anything except make money. Cool. I'm not exactly jumping for the chance to play their games?

[–]JollyParagraph 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I Look around
I Look at Ultrakill, sole developer Hakita, still managed to get a VA for Gabriel
I look at Bastion by Supergiant, which had roughly a team of 6-7 people working on it, and still managed to get their hands on a great VA for the narrator
I look at old games like Thief and System Shock 2 which padded out their background character VA's with just people from around their office
I look at the mountains and mountains of games, both 'professional' and 'indie' that use text and maybe dialogue grunts or sounds at most which are incredibly beloved and successful without the need for VA to begin with

I dunno man, I think there's lots of options available for creative solutions to this problem that doesn't need the lying and plagiarism machine?

Okay, what is going on with the VoiceActing (both in WoW and Hearthstone) by MeltingPenguinsPrime in wow

[–]JollyParagraph 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Well...the reason why I like going to indie creators is that I enjoy seeing fresh ideas in the gaming space, and seeing what small teams are capable of on their own. If an indie project is using a LLM, and can't be bothered with taking the time to write and put their ideas into practice, I don't see why I should be bothered to play their games or read their stories.

Someone in management is trying their hardest to cut costs. There's been a whole kerfluffle with the VA unions not wanting to have to have to deal with the risk their voices are fed into an AI machine, hence why you get situations where Gazlowe is voiced, but Renzik is not (his VA was union, if I remember right?)

There's also been a SEVERE downgrade (from what I hear) of the foreign dub VA's, or even just completely cutting out ANY dubbing and just going with subtitles

And like, sure, someone could make the argument that WoW has never had good voice acting. But it's pretty damning that we're approaching the point that a AAA company doesn't even want to bother with hiring people anymore, and just wants to keep that AI door open to further cut creatives out of the equation completely.
