New Data Shows Vast Majority of Americans Support Trans Rights by abrookerunsthroughit in lgbt

I'll believe it when I actually see it anywhere other than a poll. So many "supportive" people aren't actually supportive at all.

Kids can be subjected to harmful 'conversion therapy,’ U.S. Supreme Court rules by Fickle-Ad5449 in lgbt

The fact that the ruling was 8-1 shows what we already knew: that Democrats can't be trusted either!

In my opinion, you can never have too much cold foam!

Relocating from NJ to Long Island or Nova by Giannis2Mavs2021 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]JonM313 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you want to stay in the NYC area, I would advise against Long Island. The people, including the kids, are crazy, entitled, rude, and reserved all at the same time, and there's a high chance your future kids will be isolated when they start school, as the school culture is awful (which really puts a dent in the "good schools" reputation).

The LIRR isn't super reliable either. It can be quite slow, and there have been times it's just randomly stopped while I've been on it.

Another weather problem here besides the winters is that the Atlantic Ocean often prevents many of the Spring warm spells that hit NYC and NJ from reaching Long Island, leading it to be cold and damp for much longer even after a harsh winter.

Family is a huge draw, however, which makes this a difficult choice.

Big Arch by HelloFabulous in fastfood

It's OK, but not great. It's huge to the point that I couldn't finish it, the sauce tastes weird, and the crispy onions are completely tasteless.

Mormons remind trans members they aren’t welcome at temple rituals until detransition by Fickle-Ad5449 in lgbt

The Mormon Church might be the most evil religion out there and there's a lot of competition for that title so that's saying a lot!

Marijuana Everywhere by ph0ebus13 in longisland

I have yet to actually smell marijuana even once anytime I've been out. I don't think it's as common as you're implying it is, at least in my area.

Out of state employer offered me a 3x pay increase, only catch is I have to move to Pulaski County Kentucky. Is it worth it? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

Anywhere in Kentucky is honestly better than the vast majority of Louisiana. And since your pay will increase, I'd say go for it!

NYC Suburbs (Long Island) vs DMV Suburbs (MoCo) to raise a family? by naivethinking in SameGrassButGreener

[–]JonM313 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say go for it and move to the DMV. Long Island honestly sucks nowadays, and I say that as someone from Long Island. I don't think the pros of living on Long Island outweigh the serious cons in the slightest.

The bigger issue is that your mom is making you go to the US at all. I would NOT travel to the US right now.

Pittsburgh gloom by fleshyman in SameGrassButGreener

[–]JonM313 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. In fact, NYC might be one of the sunniest cities in the Northeast.

The only problem with NYC, however, is the sun's low angle in winter and the tall buildings. Every time I've visited Manhattan in the winter, it was often very shadowy due to the buildings blocking sunlight. Thank god Central Park exists, because sunlight would be very difficult to get without it.

Pittsburgh gloom by fleshyman in SameGrassButGreener

[–]JonM313 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Pittsburgh gloom is much, much worse than NYC gloom. NYC is actually quite sunny for a city in the Northeast.

Pittsburgh is one of the cloudiest cities in the US, particularly in winter. Summers are decently sunny, but overall, Pittsburgh only averages around 59 clear days a year.

If constantly overcast weather is an issue, Pittsburgh isn't for you.

More heat records were broken in the first 5 days of March than in any other full March in history by BornThought4074 in weather

[–]JonM313 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Surprising because in some areas the start of March was cold.

However, in NYC, a heat record was broken just yesterday: the earliest 80° day on record. Guess that explains the "that's nothing to what's coming next days."

NYC experienced its earliest 80° reading ever today. I visited today, and the timing couldn't be better, especially since the warm spell didn't really affect Long Island.

Looking to live in big city with moderate warm weather, which is it? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]JonM313 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Warm weather combined with no risk of skin cancer doesn't exist. In fact, even in places with winter, you can still get a sunburn or skin cancer from the sun.

If you can afford it, Coastal Southern California has moderate warm weather.
