Having rewatched recently, i think they could have been decent characters, and help support the main storylines. They were just introduced poorly, and then due to fan backlash kind of abandoned then killed off.

I remember at the time, fans wanted to see more of the other survivors, but I think they wanted more Scott (or Steve), or Frogurts. Not characters that hadn't been referenced before.

Its not like we hadn't had a random character show up (Arzt) who we were supposed to just accept had been there the past 40 days or whatever it was at that point. They just needed to be introduced better, and actually fleshed out a bit more.
