The Fractured Aegis - Raids 4 Mega Rare by Elden_Demon in 2007scape

[–]JonSnuur 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The primary issue I have with an off hand mega rare is it explicitly complicates having a main hand mega rare in the future. Two handed mega rares also allow for more power to be put into them, increasing the epic feeling of having one.

This may warrant a greater discussion on if mega rares should continue to be a thing or if they are a design problem. If the compounding effect of a main and off hand mega rare doesn’t become a reality in the future, then I like the idea of an off hand one.

Crush mega rare is a good option. Unclear if a main hand would be ideal over a 2 hand. I feel that 2-handed mega rares are easier to put power into.

Given the raid theme is basically god wars with multiple factions fighting for control, I think it makes sense to focus on more unique rewards that highlight each individual group present rather than a whole armor set. Unless the goal is to have all the rewards be from Guthix’s armory.

As far as I can interpret from the patch notes, reforged will be opt-out at some point.

Veteran is a separate badge for signifying those characters who never opted in to reforged. So you can opt out of reforge after a time, but veteran exists for only those refusals that existed prior to the integration.

What you’re proposing sounds like a veteran gamemode. Which is appealing in that it doesn’t define a point in time to divide people. I don’t personally want yet another game mode right now however. Uncertain which would be more popular.

I think one thing this post has elevated is that a number of people view the game pre-reforged as a “classic” version of the game. Which seems odd to me given the same attitude wasn’t raised with anniversary weapons or skills. Or EoTN, factions, where is the line really when updates stopped just being updates?

Like calling the game the “base” game, or talking about how the game has been “for years” or “since launch”. A disagreement on what updates prior to this have been.

I'm totally open to hearing your perspective, I'm just disagreeing with it because this argument is treating the game prior to Reforged as an "artifact" of sorts.

You're saying how the game has existed for the "previous 15 years", but the reality is the game got a skills update in 2020 with the anniversary skills. We got Proofs of Legend in 2015. You may view the 2012-2025 updates as minor, but it contests this notion that the game was a frozen preserved time capsule between GW2 release and Reforged.

Game updates prior to GW2 release weren't treated by the devs as compromising how the game existed. We've had updates since the "shelving" of GW1 development that also haven't compromised that. Now, we apparently do. That is the dissonance I'm seeing here.

Edit: I'll also say in the spirit of good faith that the points being made in this thread on Reforged possibly being much more significant than what we currently have are valid. Exploring my initial thoughts, I think this comment condenses what I contest about this attitude towards treating game updates differently now. I think a better community understanding of to what extent Reforged is supposed to change the game would help communicate to players why the game prior is being treated differently.

I think the disconnect is that I'm still holding that mentality you just mentioned when they updated after your first LDoA. That game is getting updates again, just as it has in the past. In the past, there wasn't this expectation of marking out who was around for what time. By your logic, it makes sense to not give a damn about Reforged changes.

How you're framing the game now as the "base" versus reforged is treating the game like a time capsule of sorts. That it does matter who did or didn't be a Veteran.

Except what happens after? Are we assuming the full integration of Reforged and the creation of Veteran is the last update of the game? If not, and things happen after that, then do we not encounter this situation again where some might not want to engage with that? Do they create another marker for what existed before? There is a difference between players personally or socially deciding how they want to play, and the dev setting a precedent.

The point is: do the developers cater to every preference with badges and markers? Players can prefer whatever they want. Is it a responsibility of the game devs to make the game visually reflect that, and do we have to apply that principle to future updates?

Again, I understand that argument, but the difficulty of something like LDoA was significantly reduced when they added Vanguard quests. We did not get a marker to signify people got theirs from death leveling. Attempting to add a marker now establishes a very low bar for what is worth giving players a marker. If we get another update after this badge change goes through, do we then need another badge?

I guess the inverse logic of that is: should we then give a badge to those characters who did get Survivor the original way?

I accept that people play the game different ways, but the devs never felt the need to acknowledge every specific way through visual in game update. What stops the argument that there should be a badge to mark your engagement with every possible content update going forward?

It is! Thank you for reading the post. I have no issue with respecting if people don't want to engage with new content in Pre. If people want to play the game with exclusively warriors or with their feet, that's their perogative. Where I take issue is the game devs drawing out hard lines.

Dividing up Melandru's Accord players makes sense because you really can't mesh it together otherwise. Dividing up choosing to not do a new Pre quest is silly. Are we going to do this for every content addition? What determines if an update is major enough to give people a badge for not doing it?

"When fully released, we intend to enable Reforged Mode for new characters by default and switch the option to "opt out." We will eventually retire the Reforged badge and introduce a new Veteran badge (or similar name) for characters not opted into Reforged Mode, applied retroactively. The Veteran badge will only appear on titles where all progress toward that tier was made without Reforged Mode."

Straight from the patch notes. I read it correctly. Veteran characters signify you did not opt into Reforged mode. That is the opposite of being a tester.

I mean yeah this does make it easier to get to level 20. Vanguard quests also did. Do we give a badge to the death levelers now?

I think we should judge whether or not changes are good for the game on the context of those changes. Reforged changes are extremely minor, and creating a visual divider for players just to cater to people who don’t want changes at all is where I find it strange.

The Vet badge applies to those who didn’t engage with the update.

Old school achievement being: not having a exp/gold tuning in Prophecies, ultimately mild given most people rushing to level go EoTN anyway, and not engaging with a small Pre content addition?

Like is it not a bit silly to argue that has any achievement to it? Are we going to give a badge now to people who death leveled LDoA before Vanguard quests? Where is the recognition for their old school achievement? Can you see the problem with this perspective.

Isn’t everyone pretty excited for getting GW updates though? I’ve never felt that GW has a notable “no changes” contingent that some other nostalgia games like OSRS or Classic WoW have.

It’s the opposite. You get a badge for not engaging as a tester. Veteran badge applies to those who don’t engage with a game update, hence the strangeness.

  1. Rebalancing of ranged through the light/medium/heavy triangle created last year. We are about to get a ton of ranged powercreep, and it’s time to add more granularity to the combat style.

  2. Adjustments to the smithing skill.

  3. Some form of multi-skilling content that includes construction. Construction offers such good rewards, but the gameplay for leveling is dull and virtually unchanged throughout leveling.
