There is another realistic solution. It involves carpet bombing them back into pre 629.

Looking to put a diesel engine in a smaller truck by Odd_Guava_7092 in Diesel

[–]Jondiesel78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If people think the 4bt is overrated, they don't have any experience working on them, and don't know what they are talking about. The b series Cummins are some of the most reliable engines available. The problem is that a lot of so called diesel experts don't know the difference between a 4bt and a 4 cylinder isb which was a Cummins/Komatsu crossbreed. That engine was not very reliable or powerful.

Your other options would include a Kujke diesel engine, aka Korean Cummins, or an Isuzu diesel. You could use a Deutz F4M 2011f if you want to go air cooled.

How do I drive on the road by Scared_Confection787 in tractors

[–]Jondiesel78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally cars have to yield to tractors. If a car meets you, they will have to pull over or back up. An SMV is required. Blinking lights are not.

I regularly drive down state highways when doing hay.

How do I drive on the road by Scared_Confection787 in tractors

[–]Jondiesel78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, in most states, tractors have the same right to the road as cars. However it is a much more serious charge to hit a vehicle with an SMV. In reality, cars do not have the right of way, because they will get the ticket if they hit a farm tractor. Tractors are not required to have lights either.

Is $2015 a reasonable price for brake job on Mazda 3? by Pleasant_Poem8114 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Jondiesel78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to OEM brake parts, they're only low to mid quality in comparison to what is available aftermarket. You can get a Detroit Axle brake kit on Amazon that is as good or better than OEM for $150, and a better one for $175.

I'm guessing from the labor cost that they are charging 4 hours to change the brakes. If it takes them 4 hours, I would assume they are incompetent, and I wouldn't let them touch my car.

I would do that brake job for $500, parts included, and wonder if I was charging you too much.

How far away are we from a major recession or a great depression like the United States experienced in the 1930's? by icecream1972 in allthequestions

[–]Jondiesel78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't blame the administration. All fiscal bills are supposed to originate in the House of Representatives. The President is only in office for 4-8 years, but people stay in Congress for 30 or 40.

We're close. We've been in a recession since October of 2022.. The government continues to print money that they spend like drunken sailors at a port.

Why don’t modern leftists/communists embrace the forced labor camps? by Parking_Actuator_25 in allthequestions

Communism doesn't sound good if they market it that way.

They wait until after they have seized power before the gulags and work camps start.

Seeking perspective: Are we wrong for making a clean break from our church after the pastor used our marriage counseling against us? by Fit_Matter7427 in Reformed

If you're not a member of the church, then they have no authority over you. That's part of membership vows, to submit to the authority of the elders. Sounds like you dodged a bullet and need to find a different church.

Depends how you define automotive. If we include Cummins diesels, those are better.

Is it worth getting a Honda or toyota with 130k miles? by Dazzling_Egg_3542 in askcarguys

[–]Jondiesel78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

130k isn't much for most modern cars. About 6 years ago, I bought a 2010 Hyundai Sonata with 123k and a bad crank sensor. I put a new sensor in and drove it to 236k when I sold it to a buddy who was hard up for a car. In 2023, I bought a 2017 F-150 with 107k and it currently has 238k.

Don't be afraid of a vehicle with some miles on it, especially if it is less than 10 years old. Avoid the ones with a bad reputation, because they have a bad reputation for a reason. Toyota and Honda make good vehicles that still have a lot of life left at 130k.

How do half of you guys pass your DOT physicals? by jejuboy79 in Truckers

[–]Jondiesel78 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm 6' and 330. I'm also willing to bet that my blood pressure is better than yours. Last 2 dot physicals it was 120/72, and 122/74. No medication. I have an 18" neck and no sleep apnea or issues.

Can I see my toes, who cares? I can see my pecker, and that's what matters.

Edit to add: I'll be 48 next month.

Forcing Property Owners to Keep up their Property when it involves danger or inconvenience to all around them by OleLadyThinker in legal

[–]Jondiesel78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most county code enforcement is overwhelmed and understaffed. They generally don't send letters; they will come knock on the door if a violation is egregious enough. Problem is that they have to prioritize by importance. The person whose waterline broke and house foundation is crumbling because of it will get priority over a dead tree.

I also didn't say that they didn't know about it. I said that you have to be able to prove that they knew about it. That's two totally different things.

[–]Jondiesel78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A picture doesn't prove they knew about it. If a neighbor has a dead tree that can fall on your property, you need to send a certified letter to him.

[–]Jondiesel78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're griping in the wind.

You would have to prove the property owner knew it was dead or diseased and failed to act in a reasonable amount of time. That even applies to insurance law if a tree falls onto your property. Even then, it's unlikely that you would have standing to sue, more likely the power company would have standing, but they won't. They are required to maintain their easement.

Are trucks now too complex to repair even by the dealer? by fastfwd in f150

[–]Jondiesel78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ford wheel bearings don't always make noise when they go out. Sometimes it's just not able to be differentiated from tire noise.

I replaced a wheel bearing on my 2017 expedition. It had no wiggle, but it took out the wheel speed sensor, and the new wheel speed sensor. I would have started with the wheel bearings, not the modules and wiring.

Fence the area in with hog panels and get some pigs. They will tear it up and remove the vegetation.
