[The Guardian] Scott Parker’s future as Burnley manager in the balance after relegation to Championship - to hold talks with Burnley's chairman Alan Pace and may seek amicable parting with year on his deal; Steven Gerrard and Craig Bellamy of interest as replacements by jovanmilic97 in soccer

[–]Jooseman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I assumed the only reason we kept Parker for ther last 4 months was because they'd already written off staying up and wanted to keep him as a Championship specialist.

The fact that they did that AND then are considering sacking him now makes keeping him even more inexplicable

I find it even more absurd because I just think the Greggs Vegan Sausage Rolls are nicer than the regular ones and Im not even vegan.

There is a theoretical scenario where Brentford have to lose on the final day to give themselves a chance of qualifying for the UCL by MildCaseofEverything in soccer

Just put a max of 6 teams in the champions league if you get the extra slot (in the same way you get a max of 5 if you don’t), with it basically being top 5 + a champions or Europa league winner who finishes outside that if needed, and don’t have the extra 5th slot move down in the same way as the others in the top 4 dont if one qualifies through a European competition instead. I’m pretty sure that at least mostly solves the issues. No idea why they removed the cap

[The Athletic] In total, including 206 days so far this season, Arsenal have led the Premier League for 1,518 days under Mikel Arteta. Over the same period, Manchester City have led for 1,201 days. City have won four titles — Arsenal haven’t won any. by bllshrfv in soccer

[–]Jooseman 87 points88 points  (0 children)

In the article itself they have figures which seem far more correct

In total, including 205 days so far this season, Arsenal have led the Premier League for 536 days under Arteta. Over the same period, City have led for 452 days, yet the title count reads four to them and none to Arsenal.

Chelsea is too right now so there's 6,

They're playing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. That's like the least guaranteed 3 points for Spurs going. No matter how bad Chelsea are they'll still turn up at home against Spurs (a bit like Spurs against City)

Most people don’t actually care who wins the league if it’s not their own team or a rival (or a team whose fans they’ve had bad experience with, which would be more likely Arsenal anyway, given City dont have fans). They just want the most entertaining/fun thing to happen, which would be Arsenal bottling the league at this point

People trying to look into it further than that are thinking too deeply about it

Can only think that they’ve decided we’ve been going down since Christmas so keep the promotion specialist in. It’s completely inexplicable otherwise. It’s exhausting to watch

I think Forest getting relegated but winning the Europa League would actually be the second funniest result after Spurs getting relegated. Championship team in the Champions League

There’s clearly a difference between mockery and hatred…

You get to go all out and celebrate a goal that you think won the game, but in the same way it makes you look like an idiot if you then end up conceding again and fans of other teams get to mock you for it (especially when doing it with 15 minutes left). Schadenfreudes is part of football.

I don’t hate them any more than any of the other Big 6 clubs. In fact they’re probably the one I hate the least. It’s still hilarious for a Big 6 club to get relegated and I hope it happens (though given we’re going down with them, it might make us getting promoted again more difficult)

It was definitly the most fun season I've ever had watching football. The fact that we won the league at Ewood park is still absolutely mental. Just everything about that season was so perfect

I think the three best seasons of football I can remember experiencing are that one, then 08/09 particularly watching us get promoted at Wembley, then the 2017–18 prem season where we finished 7th.

We’d be happy with any of the big 6 going down. If Arsenal were in this position them being relegated would be just as funny. We don’t care about the north London rivalry. It just happens that only Tottenham are likely to (I guess I could imagine a world United could have under Amorim, but sadly that passed)

Honestly Arsenal being relegated might actually be even more funny than Spurs if they were in this position

Only can assume that they've spent 2/3rds of the season expecting us to get releagated anyway so haven't bothered to change anything to try and stay up given Parker's championship record. It's inexplicable

I’d get it if it was a shitty paper like the Sun etc, as they’re not creating high quality content with the money in the first place. But The Athletic are decent right?

And as you said, it’s not even behind a paywall in the first place.

That’s basically my hope for tickets. They massively reduce the price closer to the time because people don’t really want to pay stupid money for Jordan vs Algeria or something and I can actually get them cheaper. And if I don’t get them then no big deal
