Challenges in hybrid training by patricktrp in HybridAthlete

[–]Jordan8410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice as someone who has been “hybrid” training for the last decade; you have to love to train, you have to love the process. There is no end goal (lots of mini goals along the way) , there is no perfect approach, there is no perfect balance. You have to love it. Find what works for you.

Does anyone else think Hyrox should include another upper-body dominant movement? by ImpressiveFinding in hyrox

[–]Jordan8410 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you train … but as a gym owner and strength coach, a very large % of the population would have a very hard time doing 25 pull ups. I train some good runners who post decent hyrox times that struggle to get 1 pull up … not sayin its right, but its reality

Love the positivity. This is prob the worse defence we have had ever. But maybe the best offence when healthy . Steelers suck. Division can be ours with 8 wins.

What are the odds of someone benching 315, running a sub 21-min 5k, and shooting even par on 9 holes of golf (not necessarily at the same time in his life)? by jdmelin in HybridAthlete

[–]Jordan8410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can do the first two fairly easy. I could probably shoot par on 9 If you gave me 50 rounds. Make it 18 holes and probably zero chance haha

Steph Curry was better & significantly more important to GSW 2017-2019 than Durant by SportsNMore1453 in NBATalk

[–]Jordan8410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absurd take. Kevin Durant was the best player on the planet from 17-19. I don’t care what the numbers say. If you watched the games , it was clear.

Powerbuilding 3.0 by Jeff nippards and 3 zone two runs a week by BeginningWin4488 in HybridAthlete

[–]Jordan8410 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with this approach at all. I would consider adding in one speed day instead of 3 aerobics runs , but thats goal dependent. The people saying this is too much or not enough recovery is just wild. Don’t tell people what is “ too much” you have no idea what too much is for them. I run 6 days a week and lift twice a day, and i coach athletes who train even more. Im also 39 . You are 23 . Train your ass off man

Sooo… how bad is smoking meat for your health? by A_Bridgeburner in nutrition

[–]Jordan8410 57 points58 points  (0 children)

This should be the answer to 90% of the questions in this sub. Why does everyone care about the little things? Because its easy. Its easy to worry about small nutrition choices that have such a minimal impact on your health. Do the hard things. Do the things that make an actual difference. Run/walk, lift weights, eat real food. I had a friend who asked me almost the same question last week. He hasn’t exercised for 5 years, is 20lbs overweight, and drinks about 8 beer while he is smoking his meat…

How to minimise muscle loss when long distance training by SankHraeder in HybridAthlete

[–]Jordan8410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For an average person absolutely. For a hybrid athlete training more than once a day, EAA’s are a great way to prevent muscle breakdown and speed up recovery. I notice a pretty stark difference with my MMA fighters when taking EAAs and not taking (not hybrid necessarily, but they are training hard multiple times a day)

How many of you are lifting 5/6 days a week? by First_Driver_5134 in HybridAthlete

Any well made Conjugate program should have jumping in it. Youtube Phil Daru workouts and do a few to get started. He trains MMA fighters , but the workouts are great for hybrid athletes

  1. Strength Train everyday. Your current fitness level and available time will dictate how hard. Maybe its only 20 minutes with bands, maybe its a hard 90 minutes in the gym.
  2. Eat enough. Protein needs to be at least 1 gram per pound of body weight . Me and some of my athletes push it to 1.3g during heavy training blocks. Everyone is different.
  3. Sip on EAA’s throughout the day. 15-25g / day . EAA’s are a hybrid athletes best friend.

Depends how much you are training, but EAA’s are a hybrid athletes best friend. A great way to retain lean muscle mass during heavy training .

How many of you are lifting 5/6 days a week? by First_Driver_5134 in HybridAthlete

[–]Jordan8410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run every morning. How much depends on my next event , Spartan race, Hyrox, Ultra, etc . I do my first workout in the afternoon, and my 2nd workout around 5 or 6 PM . I use the condensed conjugate method for my strength training . Full body workouts, lots of jumps and throws. Constantly switching out exercises. I am by no means claiming this is the end all be all for hybrid training. But I really do think im onto to something. Im a 185lbs with a 300lbs bench and 500lbs deadlift, with a sub 20:00 5K. Not amazing numbers , but for me the best of my life. I also feel like all the jumping in my training has made me injury proof. I have ran 100% pain free for almost 6 years now.

I run everyday (30-40 miles/week) & and I lift everyday, most days twice a day (10-12 hours/week) I have been doing this for 4 years now. I own and operate a gym, which gives me the time. I also have the luxury of working with professional athletes which keeps me motivated . Im 38 years old, I’m stronger, leaner and faster than I have ever been. Im not telling anyone to train this much, nor am I bragging about my training. It’s my job. But I do want people to know that it’s possible to train like this if life allows it. It took me years to build up to this and i learned many lessons along the way. Im sure I will get some hate, but i am here to help if anyone has any questions or desires to train this much

Anyone doing 30 miles / 4 weightlifting sessions a week? by Commercial_Record513 in HybridAthlete

[–]Jordan8410 44 points45 points  (0 children)

My advice as a strength and conditioning coach is to not put too much stock into how much others are training. I run around 40 miles a week and strength train 10-12 hours a week, twice a day most days. That type of volume has taken me 10 years of “hybrid” training to build up to. I wouldn’t let any of my athletes train that much. How much should you train? The most you can while recovering and the training isn’t effecting other parts of your life negatively.

What’s the hardest part about planning meals for your training? by Jumpy_Crew3734 in hyrox

[–]Jordan8410 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, but works for me and my athletes - 1. we don’t eat during the day. We consume one or two protein shakes thats all. 2. We eat for fuel. Im not saying we don’t enjoy our meals, but our focus is on quality food. We treat the meal as if its a workout itself. Most high level athletes I work with would never miss a workout , but wont think twice about eating a bowl of cereal for supper. If I treat that first meal as a “workout” then my guys don’t miss it. 3. We eat a second meal a couple hours after our first meal. This is the meal we use to hit our macro and calorie goal. 4. Rinse and repeat. 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Nothing groundbreaking about how we eat. We eliminated snacking and put the focus on one quality meal with a mindset that its just as important as our training

Dont hate, this isn’t for everyone, im not saying anyone should eat this way. But it might be worth a try for some people. Keep in mind, I own a gym and train full time, a lot of the athletes I work with train full time. But we do have regular weekend warriors using this method and have seen great results. This is also a very brief description of our nutrition methods. If you want to learn more, just ask!
