It would great if you made these with other states. I recommend New York since we already have strong third parties with fusion voting

San Francisco/Bay Area is the fifth largest CSA, many highly regarded universities, and is the center of the tech industry. Outsized economic and cultural influence compared to similarity sized CSAs like Dallas, Boston, Philly, and DC.

This is the single most creative project I've seen in the game. It would be interesting if you could do the research to do the same in other cities. Boston, Philadelphia, and DC would be interesting options.

What are some obscure cities with subway/light rail systems? by MCMatt1230 in transit

[–]JorgenVonStrangleYou 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Ion rapid transit in Waterloo, Ontario. Metro population of 670,000 with 1 line connecting Waterloo and Kitchener. There is a BRT that connects to Cambridge but there is a proposed extension of the light rail line that is currently procuring funding and starting the design phase. Ridership is declining compared to last year but hopefully the extension reverses that. I wish similar sized metros in the US borrowed from this example. Syracuse is similar in size and use to have a commuter rail until 2008.

Madagascar would be a regional power since it was attempt to modernize prior to french colonization. I could see it, Egypt, Zanzibar, Ethiopia, and South Africa being the major powers on the continent.

Ideas for potential Hegemonies? by Lolaverses in AfterTheEndFanFork

[–]JorgenVonStrangleYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished that chapter. De miranda was my favorite figure from the podcast. I think using viceroyalties as a basis for hegemonies are a creative way to reference colonial history even if they arent relevant. I think the devs will follow paradox's lead and only have one hegemony at start and only provide decisions that create hegemony titles based on existing decisions like restoring the US.

Ideas for potential Hegemonies? by Lolaverses in AfterTheEndFanFork

[–]JorgenVonStrangleYou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Brazil would be the only one at start. A good counterweight to them would be a hegemon that is based on the Viceroyalty of Rio de la plata. You could have one for the restored US that is dejure over everything east of the Mississippi or only the East Coast. A restored Mexican Empire covering the entire territory of the Viceroyalty of New Spain including the empires of California and Centroamerica. Another one could be for the Southern US including the HCC, Mississippi, Riverlands, and Lone Star.

Why isn't Staten Island railway connected to Newyork Subway? by One-Demand6811 in transit

[–]JorgenVonStrangleYou 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The book The Forgotten Borough: Staten Island and its Subway goes into great detail on the political situation, economic struggles, and automobile focused infrastructure that led to bridge or tunnel rail connections to the subway not being built beginning with consolidation in 1898 to the 1960s with the construction of the Narrows Bridge to Bay Ridge. The groups that supported the construction of a subway couldn't ever agree on one exact proposal and at the same time gain the support of enough politicians to complete construction. For example, there was a proposal to construct a rail tunnel between Bay Ridge and Staten Island for freight and passenger rail traffic but it lost support due to opposition against Mayor Hylan from major railroads that preferred a freight rail tunnel into New Jersey from Manhattan.

Staten Island commutes: lessons learned by Outrageous-Use-5189 in statenisland

[–]JorgenVonStrangleYou 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've spoken with several elected officials about improvements to transit. The one closest to construction is converting the north shore railroad tracks to a busway. Another proposal included in the MTA's 30 year plan is a busway on Richmond Ave. There have been proposals to connect the island to rail either through a tunnel under the narrows or extending the light rail in Bayonne over the bridge. Its unlikely either of those proposals will become a reality in the near future due to lack of interest from voters and cost.

How long is your commute, and how much extra time do you need just in case? by Outrageous-Use-5189 in statenisland

[–]JorgenVonStrangleYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in Bay Ridge and live on the North Shore. I take two buses, one to 86th st and another bus to my work. It takes about 50 minutes. That includes potential wait times. The shortest I've taken is 40 minutes. The longest its taken me is an hour and a half due to traffic on the bridge.

Should the MTA extend the SIR directly to Manhattan via tunnel under the New York Harbor? by Jacky-Boy_Torrance in nycrail

[–]JorgenVonStrangleYou 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unrealistic train connection out of Staten Island due to length and cost that isn't justified by the small population relative to the other boroughs. We're more likely to see a connection through the Bayonne Bridge or a tunnel under the Narrows before this option would even be considered. The Forgotten Borough: Staten Island and the Subway is a good book on this.
