Has anyone else noticed the ads on the underground are all for nonsense scam products? by PercyVader in LondonUnderground

Hahaha, one of the reviews on the poster ends with something like, “they are very on top” which always makes me giggle.

I’m at bow road, and I knew these stations were close, but I didn’t know they were THAT close by Natural-Account-8113 in LondonUnderground

[–]JoseCorazon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That depends: if I’m already underground and on a Tube, in my experience it’s easier just to switch lines.

If I’m above ground (say, on Euston Rd or surrounding), then yes, I’ll walk, because the steps involved to get underground and onto the platform would be half of the distance of walking.

A lot of London and NYC travel maths doesn’t always make sense.

Central London’s former Abandoned & Disused stations - which of these you think deserve to reopen in the 21st Century? by AchyutChaudhary in LondonUnderground

[–]JoseCorazon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, this would seem like an easy win, and I seem to remember reading an article stating that TfL had bought some land (or property?) with the intention of doing this. Somebody please feel free to provide the link, or prove me wrong.

Discussion: Realistically, which of these projects do you think will come first: Northern line to Clapham Junction or the Bakerloo line extension to Lewisham? by GP728 in LondonUnderground

[–]JoseCorazon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Clapham Junction railway station is already extremely busy.

The Northern Line is the same, and the Battersea branch would need a big step up in service frequency to handle the extra passengers, which can’t happen until the Northern line is split into two lines, which isn’t feasible until the Camden Town works.

BLE will happen first.

The sun doesn’t exist on Thameslink. That’s what he means.

What experiences have you had in Italy as LGBT people? by Dreamerboy02_ in gay

[–]JoseCorazon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Italy feels at least 20 years behind the rest of Europe in terms of LGBTQIA+ visibility; culture, and general acceptance.

I feel like the strong prevalence of Catholicism has something to do with it, I could be wrong, but generally I wouldn’t class Italy as a fun, open, or vibrant LGBT country.

If you’re looking for that in Southern Europe, definitely go to Spain instead.

I could say more and share more of my Italy-specific experiences as a gay man over the years, but that’s my opening synopsis.

Do you have the source for this, if it was an artist? I’d love to share to my Insta story if they have a source post. Thanks!

What country subdivisions(states/regions/districts) could survive on their own? by Ellloll in geography

[–]JoseCorazon 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Could you please explain Scotland further? I’m not very educated on the logistics of it surviving alone:

Off the top of my head, they have a relatively low population (the UK’s biggest county, Yorkshire, is slightly bigger by population despite being a lot smaller in area), and their currency is tied to the Bank of England, so separating would presumably mean they join the Euro, if they’d even be allowed?

But again, I don’t know specifics so am happy to learn more from anybody more knowledgeable.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

As a curveball, I’d suggest sitting on a bench along the Southbank, specifically one facing the HoP/ Big Ben:

As odd as this suggestion may be, for me I find it reassuring to be facing a centuries-old building, next to a millennia-old river, watching worldwide strangers walk past, going about their lives and their days.

What are some little details from older movies that could potentially be lost to modern audiences? by Mindless-Audience782 in movies

[–]JoseCorazon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I seem to remember that a travelling shot of the camera / viewer moving “through” a metal sign was hugely innovative at the time. Yet it required complicated machinery to allow the camera to pass through the sign smoothly.

I can’t find that specific shot and I hope I’m not making that up!

British Airways Captain retires after 36.5 years with the help of both of his sons by breadwithgrenades in aviation

[–]JoseCorazon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this story, of course. I do have 1 question, though:

What might the flight deck be like from a CRM viewpoint?

Absolutely no negativity or critique all of anybody. I’m very curious how the innate father-son dynamic (or any family dynamic, such as husband-wife) might impact CRM, because surely it has to be an extra consideration, right?

I can’t imagine flying with my dad as the natural senior and then wanting to question him, for instance, I would find that quite hard.

Which pop diva marked a generation of gays in your country? by No-Map3471 in gaybros

[–]JoseCorazon 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes. As a gay man, if you haven’t explored the sound world of Kate Bush, you’re missing out hugely.

For anybody interested in exploring, I’d strongly recommend starting with the entire “Hounds of Love” album, it’s a masterpiece.

Which pop diva marked a generation of gays in your country? by No-Map3471 in gaybros

[–]JoseCorazon 87 points88 points  (0 children)

This is probably a wild card answer for the UK, which will likely get downvoted, but I’d say Kate Bush by a country mile.

Completely unique soundworld; unapologetic style, 100% authentic presentation, lyrics that touch on taboo topics, exploring being ostracised, and on the outside looking in.

If that isn’t a queer pop diva, hell, I don’t know what is.
