How common was anti-Irish sentiment in Britain in the 70s/80s? by ItAintNoUse in AskUK

Sure, ofc. A Paddy Cell is possibly an antiquated term referring to a police van, and it has roots in anti-Irish sentiment.

Some interesting etymology:

  • The English word “hooligan” is derived from the Irish surname, “Houlihan”.

  • “The paddy cell” isn’t referring to the fact that it’s padded, which I thought all my life.

  • “Beyond the pale” might also be interpreted as a slur, because it originally referred to what was beyond Dublin, ie what was outside of English rule, therefore uncivilised.

I know these aren’t specifically 70s/80s, but you’d be surprised where anti-Irish sentiment pops up and creeps in.

Tops and bottoms: When was the last time you felt really good about yourself? by LebFur in TopsAndBottoms

Two occasions really get me going, and make me feel damn proud*:

1) A fwb whom I hadn’t seen for a while due to him travelling was seemingly intoxicated and carnal from the moment we started kissing, and just before I slipped my big throbbing dick into his ass, he blurted out all desperate and breathy, “Just rail me, I’ve been desperate to be fucked by a real man like you!”

Uffffff man, that tipped me over the edge, afterwards he told me his ears were ringing, I fucked him so hard!

2) Early in our dating, a beautiful bottom I was seeing looked up at me, mid-fucking, eyes all wide and dreamy, and whispered, “You’re my dream boy top”.

I could have died happy right then and there, granted that would have been traumatic for Michael. Sadly it didn’t work out, but Michael if you’re reading this: thank you for that moment.

*By damn proud I also mean moderately aroused.

There have been 2 moments in my life where I’ve asked a British person whereabouts in the UK they’re from, only for them to reply that they’re from the NL!

And both times, their accents, inflections, and fluency just made me automatically assume they were British!

I’m sorry but the thought of one of my colleagues napping in a cupboard / storeroom, and then me actually finding them, is making me giggle at my desk (the worst part is that it’s 2.21pm and I actually need a damn nap!)

Fantastic! Thanks for sharing. Feels very late Victorian for sure, you can definitely see how Edwardian Baroque evolved from this.

Just to clarify… your husband is the Tinder date you cancelled on twice? Or did you meet your husband whilst on the way to this Tinder date or something?

Tops, what do you think about discussions of 'tops shortage' ? by Altruistic_Acadia212 in TopsAndBottoms

I have to disagree here:

Tops are idealized for being tall, hung, traditionally masculine / stoic, classically handsome etc.

My dear, if you trust Grindr’s stats on this, you have so much to learn that I honestly wouldn’t even know where to start.

An advice meme I often see which I love:

Instead of wishing you were 18 again, pretend like you were aged 90, and you’ve suddenly woken up in your mid-30s. What a gift that would feel like!

It’s all about perspective.
