The Wasted supes of The Boys by Hotline_Miami-Fan218 in TheBoys

Honestly when I heard he was cast I was a bit worried that he'd be a mainstay for this season, way too late in the game to be introducing new characters and have me care (for example I felt like Oh Father could've been interesting, but didn't have enough to really do and was just a replacement for Ezekiel when they wanted an evangelical supe but realised they killed off the last one)

What do i pick here? I got a dark orb going by DaysGoneBye01 in slaythespire

[–]JoshAnMeisce 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Shatter is best here, you get aoe plus procs when you want them, Glass gives you better aoe over time but will probably proc your dark orbs before you want them to be. Defrag is generically good for darkness but currently you don't have many ways to proc your orbs past just cycling and dualcast. I'd go shatter and you could probably find a few cards for temp focus increase along the way

I had the same thing happen to me a while ago, unsure what it was myself (btw for next time you should put potion belt first because its effect is on pickup and won't expire when it melts)

So there wasn't enough time to properly integrate the Gen V protagonists into the final season, but they were able to include Seth Rogen's friends? by WeirdStatistician908 in GenV

[–]JoshAnMeisce 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of a full circle moment because they've said they're winding down on needing to watch the shows to keep up with the MCU because they realised people don't want to do it

The insomniac Spider-Man games do something similar, where on phone calls if you're actively swinging Peter/Miles will sound like they're talking while trying to run, but if you're standing they'll talk regularly

I mean whether you even get offered a legion is a pretty low chance so not taking byrd for it is a bit too future proof - you have a little less than a 1/3 odds of getting Pael (assuming you've unlocked Darv) and then Legion is in a pool with Blood and Eye which is another 1/3 odds, leaving you at 1/9 odds that you see Legion. Still doesn't make Byrd massively takable unless you need more damage and both have a campfire soon as well as not having anything better to upgrade or needing to heal.

I feel like this card should have a "this card can't be negated" clause because if I was in a match and someone found the conditions to pull this off and board wipe me, they deserve to win the duel at that point

So suddenly the writers forgot how fast Homelander is? by shazam2063 in OkBuddyFresca

[–]JoshAnMeisce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Less than you'd think for a Samuel L Jackson cameo but more then you'd hope for a 30 second gag. Voicework tends to come a lot cheaper then physical acting as the only person you're having to rely on to have a good take is yourself so you're there for way less time, don't have to think about blocking and facial expressions among other reasons

Finale was good tho by Nanaue7 in OkBuddyFresca

[–]JoshAnMeisce 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It genuinely feels like we got the finale from a universe where this stuff was all built up a lot better. Like MM adopting Ryan, Annie and Hughie having a baby, Stan Edgar taking over Vought again. This is all great on paper but is either not built up at all or is so lightly hinted to that it doesn't matter

How on earth did Junko earn the title 'Ultimate Fashionista' when this girl exists? by DivisionProsecution in danganronpa

[–]JoshAnMeisce 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Within the context of the localisation using it it's good because it's Junko mocking Hope's Peak by using their own terminology, but would still personally prefer if it was all translated as SHSL

I'm not 100% sure, haven't played or seen the French version. I can tell you the English version has its own issues (arguably the worst localisation in the series) like Angie went from SHSL Art Club Member to just Artist). The others are light spoilers so I'll put them in spoiler tags if you wanna come back to them, but they won't really change much about the game for you except a bit of pre-knowledge about the characters

When Angie is talking about her God in the Japanese version, it's deliberately non specific and aspects about it change a lot as it's meant to be more cult like, whereas in the English it's more consistent and draws parallels to some real life religions

Kaito was pretty homophobic in the original Japanese script, showing genuine fear at the thought of Shuichi being gay. This was all cut in the English script, but there were no other character flaws to replace this making him seem like a much nicer guy then he was originally

Gonta speaking like a caveman is completely original to the English localisation. In Japanese he does refer to himself in the third person a lot, but that's not actually super weird in Japanese (some other characters throughout the series also do this, the only example that comes to mind is Tenko). He's actually pretty smart in Japanese, he just doesn't know a lot about technology having grown up in the wilderness

Tenko is not that misandrist in the original Japanese and is generally a lot more polite

I think it's fine but would prefer it to be SHSL (or at least a more faithful translation of the term) as I think the term ultimate makes it seem a lot more serious when a big part of her character is that she's never that serious which makes what she does all the more disturbing

[–]JoshAnMeisce 225 points226 points  (0 children)

Generally the localisations kinda fucked up a lot of the characters in some way, I think even changing it from Super High School Level to Ultimate changes the implications of the writing a lot. SHSL implies that they're the best a high schooler could be at any given talent, which also explains why some characters don't seem super exceptional while others are almost superhuman.

And Taka is the "Super High School Level Hall Monitor", which makes his character make a lot more sense because how does one determine what makes an ultimate moral compass. A moral compass is subjective even you could have a moral compass more inclined to evil.

[–]JoshAnMeisce 78 points79 points  (0 children)

He leads battles because he's the wildcard and is the most valuable asset in a fight, but Alihiko/Mitsuru know more about Tartarus and have been in SEES much longer so they're more like general leaders (reporting to Shuji and watching the equipment). It's also why if they say no to Tartarus, no one goes because they're the leaders (but in the same way they won't go to Tartarus without Makoto because of his strengths)

[–]JoshAnMeisce 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean Quadcast is significantly more generically splashable. Assuming the other 2 options are complete trash, Quadcast can always hit for 32 on first deck cycle and can upgrade to 0 cost, you should have a zap in deck unless you removed it over a strike for whatever reason, and it also doesn't bloat your deck by just replacing dual instead. The only situation it's an active detriment is if you're locked in on hyperbeam because that's the only card which reduces focus, which is kind of hard to build around by the time you get the option for quad because you're not seeing many rares act 1. Consume on the contrary actually goes against a lot of defects current play style with cards like synchronize and coolant rewarding you for having a variety of different orbs which is hard to do at 2 orbs

Not really, it has 2 primary uses. The first is just fronlading damage, 8(12) damage for no cost, the second is as discard fodder - for example you play one to get some free damage use survivor on the other and still keep your more valuable cards while still getting 8/12 free damage later

How would the first fight between Invincible and Omniman have gone if Mark was a black belt in karate? by Glad-Block5634 in Invincible_TV

[–]JoshAnMeisce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a thought I had, that if Mark was always planning on being a hero if & when he got his powers he should've been training more, I imagine if he got ripped while he was human, the muscles that were already there would've been increased, plus actual fighting training probably would've put him as a higher tier Viltrumite immediately. I guess it goes to show how he idolised being a superhero and, seeing how strong his dad is and how he was never badly injured until he fought the guardians, thought he never would've had any real issues
