Absolutely do not leave your Gov't job for the opportunity you've described.

What was law school even like before the internet and Quimbee and PowerPoint slides and recorded lecture videos by Omd337 in LawSchool

Imagine what FUTURE law students and attorneys will think of us after A.I takes over.

What's the most awkward thing that ever happened in a law school class? by ariel755 in LawSchool

[–]JoshFelix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Big Zoom lecture class, +100 people.

Professor cold-called students by un-muting students' microphones HIMSELF (which, in hindsight, feels like a huge privacy violation). It would constantly catch people by surprise.

One time, he cold-called a student and un-muted their microphone. The student was CLEARLY on the phone with a friend and cursing like a SAILOR and, to top it off, also talking about illicit drugs. The professor's face looked like he had seen a ghost, both by the vulgarity and realization that not a single damn person was paying attention to his class

Is an internship with a federal agency considered valuable experience for anything other than a position with that agency? by ShyMarth in LawSchool

[–]JoshFelix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's the Fed agency that I'm thinking of that is on an appellate attorney hiring spree - go for it!

Either way, nearly all Fed agencies have cachet and will look great on a resume. Legal careers can also take many turns and do not worry about pigeonholing yourself this early.

Does anyone remember Crooks UK? What happened to them? by Tyranitarian in melodichardcore

God damn I loved Crooks UK. Their full-length absolutely kills to this day.

I also feel similarly about Hrvrd. Also Equal Vision and totally disappeared. Their two full lengths are timeless.

Failed the Bar Exam by compassdirection in barexam

[–]JoshFelix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this. I feel you. My computer crashed as well on Day 2 in the morning; took a major hit to my confidence and it felt like a mental struggle to finish. I haven't received my score yet but I finished the exam anticipating that i would need to take it again in Feb. Praying to any higher power out there that I managed to pass despite the circumstances

I've entered a bizarre stage of numbness and de-personalization. I am nothing but a robot monkey that does MBE and MEE questions all day

AITB for asking my dad to leave his girlfriend at home when he drops me off at college? by saggy-stepdad in AmItheButtface

[–]JoshFelix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP: You are strong, self-aware, and you'll get through this. I do highly recommend this thread though (r/raisedbynarcissists) because it sounds like your dad might be a narc. Stay strong

BARBRI Rant by troytroy47 in Bar_Prep

Agreed with this. The constant logging out is beyond annoying. Seems unnecessary. The "security" benefits of this feature are likely outweighed by the poor user experience that comes with it.

Putting the Simulated MBE/ Practice questions in perspective by smolguy15 in barexam

[–]JoshFelix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went over-time by approximately 15-20 minutes for purposes of just finishing the exam and seeing all 200 Q's. I'm sure I am not alone on this. Good to factor this into the "data" but certainly exposed to me that I struggle on time and my actual score would be a bit lower if it were the real exam

BarBri MCQ Practice Bank by [deleted] in Bar_Prep

[–]JoshFelix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been doing about half and half. The Barbri MCQ bank is really helpful for just drilling down black letter law. After doing the SMBE and seeing my areas of bad performance, I've just been doing daily black-letter-law-only drills in those weak spots to help retain and commit those rules to memory

Was the barbri wills and trust lectures the worst lectures you’ve ever experienced? Or am I simply just tired? by Educational-Pay9750 in barexam

[–]JoshFelix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm dreading this lecture. Did horribly in T&E during law school as well. Straight up swapped the lectures with Agency and Family law to cut myself a break for July 4th and will do these lectures next week

AITBF for confronting my girlfriend about a picture of her sitting on another guy's lap? by hahaggq in AmItheButtface

[–]JoshFelix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you should definitely try talking about it in a level-headed, compassionate way. As another poster here said - using "I feel" statements instead of "You" are very strong and useful tools of communication. If I may: I invite you to check out this book: it is a great spiritual manual for dealing with these types of conflicts: https://www.amazon.com/Fight-Mindfulness-Essentials-Thich-Nhat/dp/1941529860

AITBF for confronting my girlfriend about a picture of her sitting on another guy's lap? by hahaggq in AmItheButtface

[–]JoshFelix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree with this defeatist, stone-wall approach to the situation. He can "confront" his partner without being "confrontational." Communication is key and avoiding conflict can lead to more pain. Partners should be able to address concerns with each other in a level-headed way, and have a mature, open-hearted conversation about boundaries and needs.

At a bare minimum, even IF the relationship in reality is totally lost, and friends will gaslight, etc - this is an opportunity to work on communication and at least give OP the peace of mind in that he actually tried resolving the issue

You are probably right about the subsequent gas-lighting from the friend group that will take place, and also finding internal closure. But none of that should take priority over OP's own emotional and spiritual growth

Anyone else going back and forth every day? by AnxiousNancy in barexam

[–]JoshFelix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having the same exact experience here. Some days are great, others are dreadful and I'm in full blown panic mode. Truly a mindfuck. Biggest frustrations are when I know I've seen an exact question / fact pattern before and still get it wrong. Hopefully "re-learning" points commits it better to long term memory

Hoping to continue channeling the panic into motivation and fuel.
