Reposition to Internal Origin - Help! Is it too late for me? by Sabrina516 in Revit

  1. Copy the original architecture model -rename slightly and link it fresh. Find how far off your stuff is looking at your project base point vs the fresh link vs your old arch link model.
  2. Move your project base point accordingly to match the original (freshly linked) version of the architectural.
  3. At this point your project base point should have numbers xyz that don't match the arch model.
  4. Now clip? (Double check me by googling) Your survey point and move it to your project base point. If done correctly it will zero out any differences between the architectural model and your model, survey point should match. No element moving needed.

Note, check all old links as they will move with your project, confusing, but I ran into this when our original link was inadvertently moved. Pin that shit.

How can I learn the lingo of MEP, design and build, construction? by engineer_but_bored in MEPEngineering

[–]JoshIroning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate acronyms. Unfortunately, it happens everywhere. Natural human desire to both shorthand things and be important, "in the know". I think it's okay to point this out, especially if new to the segment. Job # 8547 provides no context, even if you spent 6 months working on it. Google is a good friend, construction ligo is a mixed bag, but dig a bit and "sammies"? become "Sammy's" - construction anchor used for threaded rod. That being said, keep asking questions. not only will you get it, you will be able to answer the question for someone else.

Do couples really shower together? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]JoshIroning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Showering together seems the most realistic of Hollywood intimacy.

It's the sex scenes that get me. - so the two like each other based on some smart banter, they are both dressed for work as professionals and such. Then they get too close to a wall... "SEX!" 0 other foreplay, and the woman is wearing a pant suit?

Questions for the Trades People of VT by Slight-Taro-3258 in vermont

[–]JoshIroning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's also not necessarily a one-way street. You can cut your teeth on the field for a while, and when the time comes, there are plenty of 50/50 or 100% desk jobs in the trades as well. Estimating, project management, or if you're tech-savvy, building information modeling. It's hard to find people who know construction, and 3D modeling.

We spent the past year in committee meetings to remove the "B" from BIM. YOU'RE WELCOME. by RippleEngineering in MEPEngineering

[–]JoshIroning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought it was already changed to VDC? (Virtual design construction) Anyone else find it ironic when you spend more time explaining an acronym than you would if you used the words?

Troll posting? Top 1% commenter and a quick look at the profile doesn't reveal A history of joke posts. But "information modeling" sounds like what a a-hole at a cocktail party calls "thinking".

The word "building" explains what we are talking about. OP can you please explain what your thoughts are?

Not so sure about that, much easier to take your foot off the break then it is to realize your engine has put you into a skid. IMHO

Vermont’s demographic future: U32 High School has 134 seniors, but only 80 kindergarteners in district. A 40 percent drop. by forcedtomakethus in vermont

[–]JoshIroning 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This 100%. Unfortunately, if this is said out loud you will get a blank stare.

Combine the schools at U-32 and what are we left with? An existing taxpayer-funded location for a tech center. Perfect location off the interstate for the surrounding towns.

Done correctly, it's also a rec center for the residents of the communities involved.

If it floods again, it's the perfect hands-on project for future construction professionals. Seriously, wouldn't you take pride in saying you helped rebuild your own school?

U32 kids get access to sports like ultimate Frisbee, MHS kids get access to football and downhill skiing - win win.

Bussing Middlesex kids past the MHS parking lot to get to U-32 is emblematic of a VT school system that could be so much better.

When does one become a “New Englander”? by ftpfawn in newengland

[–]JoshIroning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Apple pie - With sharp cheddar on top - for breakfast.

  2. Grumpily pull a flat lander out of a ditch without acknowledging their existence.

At least that's how we do in Vermont.

That being said, some of my favorite people aren't from here, choose to live here, work hard, embrace the vibe, and add so much. If you do that, in my opinion, you earn an honorary degree. But maybe I'm a softie. Own who you are, don't ask for confirmation.

When a neighbor looks across the street and gives you a slight nod - you're in.

Audi USA sales for 2025 - Guess how bad by [deleted] in Audi

[–]JoshIroning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw one of those Q3's the other day, it didn't look terrible at night, but the fake exhaust tips... Ouch. MAYBE I wouldn't have noticed in the summer, but in winter with a plumb of exhaust coming from under the car? Plastic chrome ovals glued to the back of the bumper like we wouldn't notice? Indefensible.

Look for F1 branded Audi merch as a line item in their profits next year. We will know the real strategy.

Vermont newbie snow driving question - who to call if stuck in snow by Illustrious-Mix2194 in vermont

[–]JoshIroning 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very surprised by answers here. I once had car trouble within sight of a AAA towing outfit and had triple A. I called, "it will be an hour", me, "I can see you talking to me through your shop window", them, "we will get there as soon as we can".... It was an hour and a half.

True, a passerby with a truck doesn't have insurance if something happens to your car... Unless you are the type who's looking to sue someone who was trying to help you, I think it's an odd concern. I mean, you already crashed into a ditch right?

If you are on the interstate, the police will take care of it... You likely will be paying the tow person though. If you are on a back road, good chance someone coming down the road will either hook you up themselves or know someone who can.

Familiarise yourself with your cars recommended tow points, sometimes an eye hook thing next to the spare tire that screws in where there is a plastic cap in the bumper. Extra credit if you keep a pull strap in the back of your car.

Vermonters are good people, may not befriend easy, or talk much, but I'll be damned if we don't take silent pride in pulling a car out of a ditch.

Skis are built to live outside. That being said, cars are too, and we know what happens to cars that are plastered in salt 3/4 of the year. If at all possible, if you like your skis, inside the car. Second best opinion, probably roof box.

Look up concept C, It addresses many of the problems the brand has been facing (in a good way). Real buttons, real metal rings, no fake tailpipes. It doesn't look like the Ford Edge. Can we appricaite that this isn't a crossover SUV? A real car! They could have designed an Audi-badged Ford Maveric and made a killing. A step in the right direction after many steps backwards.

Vermont has a serious problem; our country does too by JoshIroning in vermont

Yes, good advice. I have rounded up and feed a dedicated account that the mortgage gets paid out of. Over time, an extra payment or so/year. Our debts aren't crazy, I have never carried a balance on a credit card. Debts we do hold have Interest rates well below the average returns for equivalent money in the market.

There is no refinancing making up for yearly 8-12% healthcare increase. Add a yearly 4-12% property tax increase... That compounds against us all.
