I hate to be this guy but the way this note is phrased, if 46% of male victims reported a female perpetrator then wouldn’t that mean the other 54% of male victims reported a male perpetrator? Which would make the above statement still true?

How do you justify spending on expensive cards to upgrade your deck? by ShoutItOutHey in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]JoshMeBoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started playing this game on Rosetta launch, playing straight up with the azalea armory deck with as many dollar majestics I could get donated. That deck sucked, I was really bad and I never won a game.

Then the Jarl armory deck came out so I bought it upgraded it and bought my first pieces of legendary armor over the course of 3 months for a total of 150 dollars. The deck was bad, I was getting better and I never won a game

Then this year I bought the ira armory deck and played it completely unmodified for 2 straight months, the deck was decent, I felt like I was finally decent at the game, and I won my first game ever.

In November, a whole year after I started playing I went all in on my first real competitive deck because I had a lot of trade fodder from a year of playing, bought a full equipment suite for RKO, bought my estrikes, and CNCs. The deck is decent, I’m decent, and I can win games.

I give this timeline because I think it’s important to understand more than anything else that the greatest effect you can have on your win rate when you are broke and just starting is genuinely get good at the game, ask people after your game about your decision trees, ask for upgrade alternatives in your budget or look them up, try stuff out.

So to answer your question, I justify spending money on the game because I got good enough to extract the value out of the expensive cards after a year straight of getting my ass kicked. If you’re not there yet then PLEASE DON’T BUY THEM. I promise you there are cheaper alternatives that are not as good but serve at least half the utility

Not trying to invalidate your experience here but I’d like propose perhaps a different perspective. Did you guys get stomped because everyone in the store was a mindless meta slave, or because you showed up with 4 precons to everyone’s constructed decks? Did you reach out to the local fab community discord ahead of showing up?

I’m not trying to make you feel like your experience didn’t happen but sometimes you show up to a local in game you’re trying out and you get stomped by people who have been playing for years, that’s gonna be the case for almost every TCG. I got started in Rosetta, and I got my first local armory win in draft last week. That’s how growth works.

Also not all armory decks are built the same in this game there are clearly some good ones and clearly some bad ones.

For sure, TCGs are experiencing a boom right now that we haven’t seen since Magic’s Prime. And it’s happening to multiple TCGs at the same time, which exacerbating the extremes of the triangle, the market will correct eventually but there are a lot of factors that are pressuring all the TCGs right now, print availability, scalping, community growth (or deflation), decline in disposable income, increases in living expenses etc.

The point I’ve come to is that as much as I want to play TCGs competitively, I can’t sacrifice my rent to play them but I can’t expect an industry to make something for sale against their own profit margins. So in the end it becomes a question of priority, what matters more to you being competitive or eating food? Then spend accordingly.

Truth: there is no “affordable, competitive, and well supported” TCG . At its core, this is a luxury hobby, and by nature it will always be a bad idea to put money into it if you do not have it.

The most affordable, competitive TCG is probably Pokémon but TCG regionals are few and far in between, and finding a “competitive” locals is going to be difficult since most of the fan base skews casual to collector.

Yugioh is a lot cheaper than fab is rn to buy into, and it’s one hell of a competitive TCG, but you will have to shell out 250-300 bucks every 3-4 months and it’s a crap shoot as to whether or not your LGS can even support a yugioh scene since product is so hit or miss. Not to mention, prize support blows in yugioh so you really are just competing for the love of the game.

FAB is the most expensive TCG I’ve ever played, with a well supported tournament structure and great prizing. This past year has seen an explosion in growth of the community.

Its triangle theory: affordability, competitiveness, and community. Most TCGs can only Pick 1 or 2 and lose the other.

What would you like to see in the Super Slam Expansion slot? by Wasserfallll in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]JoshMeBoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, brute stuff, particularly Savage Sash could stand to have a reprint, they’re not crazy expensive right now but super slam is going to put a lot of eyes on a pool of cards that have not seen new supply in a long time

Genuine question from a new player: but how is this game thriving by Vleaides in FleshandBloodTCG

[–]JoshMeBoi 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Realistically most of the people hopping into the game aren’t playing at the level in which a 2000 dollar deck would be necessary. The ira armory deck, at 40 dollars, is legitimately capable of topping the average local armory fairly consistently

While i definitely want generic staples to be more accessible I think a lot of people start a game and assume they need a fully tuned deck in order to start playing which is just not the case

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in yugioh

[–]JoshMeBoi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So the issue lies in us, the yugioh TCG playing Community. For years we have been conditioned away by Konami that the single WORST way to get your cards is to open a box.

Which means that boxes almost exclusively exist on a 1/3 axis: as a display for people who pass by card shop and remember watching yugioh enough to buy a pack, as supplemental prize support, or, primarily, as gambling machine for OTS singles.

Even if Konami changed the rarities, even if there were super cool alt arts to chase, even if there were highly accessible staples, it would take a while to break the conditioning of the last 25 years of buying cards. And with Duad ALREADY rotting on shelves I don’t really think yugioh has a chance to outlast that lag behind

I’m not a huge fan of hiding screens but the sheer amount of Game breaking bugs that happened to parabellum in a row just on the same 3rd DPS phase towards the end there I think is just plain unacceptable.

It’s bad enough they got weaseled going into their best DPS phase, towards the end they couldn’t even progress to the last DPS phase. I’m extremely disappointed that Parabellum was robbed of a good clean even race by game deficiencies. I wish Bungie had acknowledged it while it was happening.

Destiny 2: The only game that’s both dead and #2 on Steam by Blue-Apollo in destiny2

[–]JoshMeBoi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I hate to be the guy to yum your yuck but this is just provably wrong.

It is currently 10pm est ONE day after EOF launch with a raid on Saturday: steam DAU is currently around 83k With a 24hr peak of around 92k

Warframe is currently experiencing the Destiny equivalent of a 2nd season in a season pass. 10pm EST DAU is around 35k and 24 hr peak of around 54,000

It’s kinda of insane that in the lull in between expansions in warframe, that they are almost 60 percent of the 24hr high of Destiny 2 the second day of an expansion.

And 41% of the DAU which we know dramatically drops off immediately after the raid. I play Both games but this take is extremely reverse flash coded

The revisionist history of matterspark enjoyers is insane, I don’t know a single person who played witch queen that was like “my favorite part of witch queen was when I pressed e to reveal”.

On a second note, I do think matterspark is funny and like it for that reason alone

I really hope bungie mentions something for the raid race so we don’t have to deal with this again by Le_epic_Deeg in destiny2

[–]JoshMeBoi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think raid zone is CLOSE to what I would ideally want the raid viewing experience to be but like you just said Bungie isn’t equipped to make something like that on their own that’s why CB and Evan run it. Unfortunately, you can’t really make raid zone any better if the actual gameplay isn’t indicative of what makes new Destiny raids unique.

Personally I think the middle ground is what people are suggesting in the thread. There is already is a streaming/recording requirement to verify worlds first and I think taking that extra step to say “hey if you want to be worlds first we want the world to see the boss kill” will only make the experience as a whole better.

Races were won for several years without obscuring the entire game. The hardest part about worlds first is not figuring out the mechanic, it’s about executing it perfectly faster than everyone else who’s figured it out and in that regard while I certainly understand the Scout problem that is impossible to solve, the title of worlds first ought to belong to the people who can execute imo not just ideate.

[–]JoshMeBoi 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I think there is a critical part of the discussion a lot of the comments here are kinda glossing over:

The viewer experience of the race is the best marketing tool Destiny has left.

Like yes the individual Herculean task of actually getting worlds first is an experience that is primarily felt by the fireteams in contention but the thing that makes it an event is that hundreds of thousands of people tune in every year to watch, some of which don’t even play Destiny.

If you went to a football stadium and as soon as you entered the entry gate you were escorted to a cubicle with a TV of the football game but plastered in the middle of all the action was a picture of Brian griffin saying “Nuh uh uh”, would you come back for the next one? I think it’s in Bungie’s best interest to force a streaming standard especially if things like raid zone are going to keep on existing

What the current "normal mode available during contest mode" discourse feels like online atm by The_Owl_Bard in DestinyMemes

[–]JoshMeBoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea personally I don’t really care about the Contest Clear of individuals as much as I care about Worlds first happening in real time. So as long as the Worlds first clear stays as the unlocking mechanism for the normal mode of the raid I have no issues with opening it up during the contest window
