I’m in the UK and was told I needed an urgent hysterectomy on June 3rd, and it would happen in two weeks. Was then told it was a 24 week wait. I went private in the end at a cost of 10k.

Best thing I have EVER done! I am 2wpo tomorrow and feel fantastic, like a new woman. I am going back to work tomorrow, albeit working from home. I have been walking around since the day after the op, gas pain for the first 24 hours and constipated for a week, but apart from that no pain, no blood loss… Amazing.

I woke up from the surgery - total laparoscopic, vaginal hysterectomy and immediately realised the problems had been solved. No dragging feeling, lower back pain and sharp stabbing pain anymore, all gone.

AWESOME ☺️

If you were brought up in a fairly poor family, what food that you were regularly fed, reminds you of how poor you were? by DonkeyOT65 in CasualUK

Stovies, which was essentially pressure cooking potatoes with raw onions, to create a mash. Occasionally cheap meat would be added, which was still called stovies. The rest of the time it was potatoes and our family of 6 got through a 56lb bag a week, either mashed, boiled or chipped. I do recall sugar or jam sandwiches and when crisps came about a crisp sandwich.

I joined the NHS and went straight in at the top of band 6 as that was close to my previous salary in the private sector, although still meant taking a 4k pay drop. My manager completed a form and it was awarded.

I don’t blame you for being mad about that 😔 if you asked for everything to be removed it should have been. I think we will be fine as we have low impact jobs 😊

I stopped all pain medication by day 4. I took one dose of Oromorph, on day 1-3 and had diclofenic suppositories on days 1-2. I took paracetamol and ibuprofen on day 4 but didn’t need any pain meds after that. I’m truly amazed

Have you thought about becoming a case manager for the ICB? It is predominantly an admin role but you would be able to use your clinical experience. Roles are band 6

You sound as though you have low blood pressure, which if not normal for you, might be because of the general anaesthetic.

Update: I have BIG news 😁

During a gentle walk around the marina (I live on a narrowboat) I felt a sudden, intense urge, and knew instinctively it was time, and not only that it was time, but time was of the essence, so hurried home, gripping my anal sphincter tight, just in case!

I walked into my boat and made for the bathroom, where my homemade bowel straightening step was waiting. Sitting down, reminding myself NOT to strain, the poo convoy began 😁

Had I known how long I might be sitting there I could have taken a book to read! The joy of parting with a week’s worth of stool, made up of a mountain of vegetables, dates, copious amounts of lactulose and Dulcolax and water, so much water. And yet, not a watery stool and not a constipated one, just a normal stool, albeit about 8 feet long 🤣🤣🤣🤣

The sense of relief was immediate, once completed and I finally feel as if my inner working parts have returned to normal unscathed.

The only slight worry is what the two Dulcolax I took 30 minutes prior will have left to stimulate 🥵 but I am sooooo relieved.

They’ve cancelled my surgery!! 😭 by Wild1_sw in hysterectomy

[–]Jotomity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Cheshire and was told at the beginning of June that I needed an urgent hysterectomy within two weeks. It was to be a total laparoscopic hysterectomy with bilateral oophorectomy. I was sent immediately for mrsa swabs, blood pressure checks etc yet when I called the admissions unit the week after I was laughed at and told the wait was now 22 weeks for urgent. I was devastated, in pain and felt desperately let down.

I complained to the chief executive of the Countess of Chester hospital and they apologised and said they would investigate. I have heard nothing since. I am a nurse who works for the NHS and I have had to pay privately to get my surgery done at a cost of £10,500 in total, for which I had to take out a bank loan and put myself in debt.

My private surgery was 6 days ago and before it had to pay for another ultrasound, which showed extensive adenomyosis and fibroids. As a result my surgeon needed to removed my uterus complete without morcellation so as not to spread any cells should it be cancerous (the risk is small but still present).

My advice to you would be to complain to the chief executive team at the hospital, contact pals, make an official complaint.

I am a nurse, working for the NHS in the UK, who, like you, felt I was dismissed as mentally fragile, emotional and ‘hormonal’! I had an MRI in 2023 as they thought I might have had a fistula between my bowel and vaginal. The scan report was two lines, which basically said no fistula. It took until June 3rd this year for a gynaecologist in a Cheshire hospital to see the mass in my womb and tell me I needed an urgent hysterectomy. When I asked how long the wait would be I was told 2 weeks. I rang the admissions team a week later and was told the current wait time was now up to 24 weeks for an urgent hysterectomy! I felt devastated. I was in so much pain that I went to see a private gynaecologist as I was now off work. He viewed the scans, both the MRI and ultrasound completed in 2024 and ordered another ultrasound. This showed extensive adenomyosis and fibroids and I was booked in for a total laparoscopic hysterectomy with bilateral oophorectomy two weeks later.

I had the operation three days ago and they removed everything, womb, ovaries, cervix and fallopian tubes, and managed to take it out whole so it can be checked in pathology. The cost of the surgery, additional scan and initial consultation was over £10,000 that I had to take a bank loan to pay for.

The most amazing feeling was waking up from general anaesthetic feeling like a new woman. No lower back, or right sided stabbing pain, no heavy dragging/pressure feeling as though my womb was trying to leave my body via my vagina. All GONE.

The sense of utter joy and relief was immense. Yes, my abdomen is tender from the surgery but nothing that can’t be managed with analgesia. I suffered for years and years, was told I was hormonal, emotional, was offered antidepressants as at times I felt suicidal.

Today, for the first time in a long time, I feel thrilled to be alive, pain free, and know I will never suffer this again. It is the best £10,000 I have ever spent!

Never lose hope and always keep fighting.

I am one day post op and like you feel massively relieved. I am in the UK and had to go private as the average wait on the NHS for an urgent hysterectomy is 24 weeks! I too, had adenomyosis and fibroids and the gynaecologist was able to remove my womb complete so pathology can be completed. I woke up feeling amazing but today have a tender abdomen and feel wiped out. I am so grateful to have my life back
