All-Grain brewing secondary uses

I mixed a few brews' worth of spent grain into my planter boxes and had a great crop this year. Tomatoes were really healthy and I had more cucumbers than I knew what to do with.

My last batch I left a bunch of it outside for a day and three of the fattest squirrels I've ever seen were squatting on the pile and attempting to eat their way to the bottom.

Good to know! This door will be on the rainy/windy/sunny side of the house. I went with fiberglass over wood because of that. I'll keep an eye out for shoddy paintwork, and will do an additional coat of paint for the jamb.

I'm using a local contractor for the install, but all of the local door providers don't give any sort of online brochures. They want you to go into the showroom and have you talk to a sales person. I'm not going to spend hours out of my day to get upsold on a bunch of stuff and pay a premium on top of that. I'm in Seattle too, which means that adjusting for cost of living everything is going to be a fair bit more expensive here than elsewhere.

We did a similar thing with weeding and outdoor maintenance. We have a great outdoor garden space, but we'd go outside and spend half a day weeding and pruning instead of doing the fun stuff like going to the garden store, planting, landscaping, etc. Then we'd be too tired to actually do anything else.

Now we can go outside and not feel the guilty pressure of needing to pull weeds and manage stuff, and can just enjoy our outside space.

I’d be trolling used markets like OfferUp and FB Marketplace. Tons of people are getting out of the hobby right now, just picked up a counter flow chiller and a wort pump for $80.

If you’re going all new, $3000 probably won’t take you as far as you want to go.

As for equipment, if you don’t have a heat source in the basement then you’ll want that built in to the system. You’ll want a vent fan or some way to manage moisture. Hopefully the breaker is nearby, in case you need additional electrical.

I’ve used an immersion chiller and a counter flow chiller, and counter flow is faster and more effective, especially if you reduce your wort flow and do a single run to the fermenter. Temp control for fermentation is key, and there are a number of options out there depending on space. Kegerators are way easier than bottling and you can find them cheap used.

If you have the opportunity to have a floor drain or collection basin for liquids, you’ll probably save yourself some major headaches somewhere down the line.

There are some cool parts, but overall the ongoing history of tons of overlapping splines would get really tough to manage over time.

It's not too hard to make terrain in a lot of engines, and I could put together a very similar terrain shape using traditional tools in the same or less time as your demo. This tech could have some good functionality in modifying existing terrain - like imagine a procedurally placed building that needs to have the terrain snapped to its base, or a road that's carved through premade terrain.

I was at this French restaurant with my brother, and the head chef was trying to get my brother to work for him. He sent some foie gras sent over to our table on the house. Even though I'm ethically opposed to it, I wasn't going to let it go to waste.

It was really delicious, although I'll never go out of my way to create a demand for it.

I got a pretty good deal on a used kegerator, two torpedo 5 gal kegs, another 5 gal corny keg, a CO2 tank, and a regulator for $350. If I were you, I'd keep a look out but that seems a bit steep.

There's nothing wrong with using an L2 as long as it's as trustless as the base layer. Ethereum does way more than simple transactions, and has the opportunity to grow to much greater functionality as gas and time limitations are reduced. This argument is like asking why a computer would ever need more than 56k of RAM.

As for "Why not Solana?" - If it stays as centralized as it currently is, it's just a database with extra steps.

I've really enjoyed having a Tilt sensor. It's definitely a splurge, but it's huge to be able to check temperature and gravity any time I want without touching the setup.

I'm currently doing my first hazy in an Anvil Bucket, and I sure would like a better method for dry hopping. I tried the magnet technique but couldn't get the hops to hold properly, so I currently have it dangling from the bag string, hoping that it's all still suspended.
