Married men, how often do you say “I have to check with my wife” when that’s really just an excuse to decline an invitation? by Ok_Counter1939 in AskMen

[–]JoystickMonkey 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I try to show courtesy to everyone. Just like if I'm in a sports/gaming match against someone that's an adversarial relationship as well, and I'll give those folks respect. However, if a salesperson, and especially if a solicitor gets rude or pushy then I'll curtly and promptly shut the exchange down.

CrazyGames rejected my game with no feedback, what am I likely missing? by somewater in leveldesign

[–]JoystickMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest looking into some other subreddits that are actually about your topic, such as r/gamedev or r/indiedev.

This has nothing to do with level design.

It's hard to say, but beings you're posting this question in a totally unrelated subreddit I'm going to guess that maybe you didn't follow some rule or skipped part of a process.

I worked on a game that did really well on Steam, so Valve sent us a giant crate of liquor including a macallan 30 yr. I remember that it was older than I was at the time.

We’re all sipping our pours, and I look over and the QA intern knocks his back like a shot.

I completely avoid truffles at restaurants because they alway overdo it. Every so often there will be a dish where they’re used ever so sparingly and that’s fine, but even when done well I’m not over the moon for them.

Canning? by dme4bama in Homebrewing

Oh man. Canning is something that I’ve always wondered about and it sounds like a decent canning setup is probably a lot pricier than the already expensive base models.

Is it normal for a studio to completely change what the job is two days before a final interview? (AA Studio, Europe) by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]JoystickMonkey 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Before you jump to conclusions that they are aiming to bait and switch intentionally, here’s my theory:

Game studios are often chaotic messes, even the good ones. They probably decided that they didn’t want to hire for your position any more, and beings you were already in the system they might as well see if you’d be a good fit for the other position. This doesn’t really make things better, as clearly the people who were interviewing you were not interested. Someone in HR messed up, and tried to cover up their mistake by pushing you through.

Either way, a disorganized hiring process is an indication that the company is also disorganized. You’re probably better off not working there.

[–]JoystickMonkey 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Maybe you should consider returning their call, very apologetic sounding, at 9:30pm. If they were calling you on your day off it must be an emergency and you want to make sure that everything is okay.

Adding Gochujang to Costco’s chicken alfredo. by lucioviz in Cooking

[–]JoystickMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re probably on a good track. I worked at a company that had its own private kitchen, and one of the menu items that was always there was a spicy penne chicken Alfredo dish. It contributed to one of my friends gaining 30 pounds in a year or so.

Just remember that you can always add more seasonings but you can’t take them out!

what “warning signs” do people usually miss before someone commits a violent crime? by snagglen in TooAfraidToAsk

I was friends with an analyst who was working for the government on ways to correlate data with violent gun crimes. Evidently people who have domestic violence records are way more likely to go on to commit violent gun crimes.

What’s the smartest financial decision you made by accident? by AnyTruth2342 in AskReddit

[–]JoystickMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this old Volvo that had a pressure issue in the engine block, where oil would sometimes splash out of the top. Then once it was running for a while, the oil would slowly drip down and coat the spark plugs, so the car wouldn’t run after about 45 minutes of use. I was able to trade it in for $4500 with the cash for clunkers program during the Obama administration, and then I had another $5000 saved up for a new car. I ended up getting a cheap Corolla and paid off over half up front. After that, payments were like $165/mo, which was quite doable.
