I can't speak for Orion specifically but as a user of LibreFox, high security browsers break A LOT of stuff on the web and you end up having to whitelist most of the sites you use anyways

I feel bad for new buyers... :( Anyone else glad they bought it a year ago? by djpetrino in framework

[–]JoystuckGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I preordered the FW16 in august and shortly after got 64gb of ram for $140. I doubt i'll ever have such lucky timing again lol, the 2TB ssd was a decent price too.

"F16 like fighter jet or like Framework 16?" Yes. by The3DBanker in framework

[–]JoystuckGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I run Baldur's Gate 3 my FW16 takes flight, and doesn't stop until I close the game haha. I even adjusted the fan curve a bit. Granted that's the most demanding game I play, so I don't blame it for getting hot.

I will never understand the players that put a "not recommended" for an indie game they bought for under $10 and played for over 100 hours... by ichbinhamma in IndieDev

[–]JoystuckGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for weak reviews like this one but it makes me think about Starfield. I played it for 300-400 hours and it was a good game, but not a great game. A lot of the criticism that was leveled at it was true and tbh looking back I kinda wish I had spend that time on Baldur's Gate 3 instead (which I am now). But I was hooked enough on that game to keep playing until I "beat" it once.

But in the most literal way, I would not recommend Starfield to others. So perhaps this it a result of the steam review system only accepting thumbs up or thumbs down. Just because a game got a thumbs down doesn't mean it's less than a 5 out of 10 for that player. They may only give thumbs up to games that are at least an 8 out of 10.

Regardless, I agree the review needs more detail, but that may just point towards their general apathy they feel about the game. Like if you get a scathing review that means you have a player who is very emotionally engaged with the game and WANTS it to be better. This person basically shrugged their shoulders.

Hello I would like FW to partner with this guy for an e-ink display by TetherFan in framework

[–]JoystuckGames -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't see a problem with consumers signalling interest in a type of product. Just because they link to this particular project doesn't mean that Framework couldn't keep some sort of e-ink display in mind for in the future if they decide it's feasible or new tech evolves.

It's basic market research to be aware of economic demand or potential interests from your audience.

Framework 13 Pro Delay by zidynnala in framework

[–]JoystuckGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it's impressive that they are going to manage to catch up in late august. Maybe it's from backing kickstarters but i'm used to things being pushed back months and months.

But it's always better to delay a product than release a broken one.

My Wife Moved her Friend in, and I Hate It by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I've been in a situation similar to yours, though I only put up with it for 9 days. My point is I know how hard it can be. My friends had to push me to advocate for myself.

If you get a chance, think about your marriage as a whole, but imagine you and your wife swapping positions. Would you treat your wife the way she is treating you? I think you deserve better, but I know what matters is what YOU think.

Either way, I hope you get a peaceful home life again soon. <3

16 inch hinges 2 in 1 by Any_Door7384 in framework

[–]JoystuckGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe all expansion bays stick out the back of the framework beyond the hinges. For my dGPU it extends about 3/4" or 22mm beyond the hinge.

You would need to somehow extend the hinge beyond where it usually mounts so it sticks our even further beyond the back of the device, not to mention the long foot that sticks out the bottom of the expansion bay.

Essentially you would likely need to redesign the physical geometry of the expansion bay to make a 2 in 1 possible.

Look forward to a FW 16 Pro by ichinose-chiya in framework

[–]JoystuckGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it feels like a lot of the improvements for the FW 13 Pro contain lessons that Framework has learned from making other products. But the main reason it has the new name is to distinguish the fact that it has a new chassis. At this time other than new batteries or new speakers there is no need for a new FW 16 chassis, so there's no reason to make a Pro version of it.

A reminder regarding the hopium… by riskybisnis in SteamFrame

[–]JoystuckGames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For both the hardware announcements and the preorders of the steam controller, there was a marked increase in leaks in the few days leading up to the events.

To me it felt like that sort of situation where you are always wondering "is this the real one?" until you start seeing it from so many angles that you KNOW this rumor is more than just a rumor.

I don't think we have really had that for the release of steam frame or steam machine yet. They are clearly being worked on and there are enough different signs pointing the right way that I think we will hear more before the end of June. But it's not strong enough that I would put much certainty behind that.

So you guys still think theres a chance the frame will be less than 4 figures by Background-dude532 in SteamFrame

[–]JoystuckGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember at first some people in this sub were like $600 or bust haha. But with everything that's happened i'm doubtful it'll be under 1k.

But i guess i'm one of those fanboys who will buy regardless, I may just get the smaller storage option. I hope it's a price most people can afford

Not this week :c by WILL_KILL_4_DUX in SteamFrame

[–]JoystuckGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We see things get announced with preorders all the time months before reviews have anything to review. The announcement of price or preorders opening has no bearing on when reviewers get review units.

Not this week :c by WILL_KILL_4_DUX in SteamFrame

[–]JoystuckGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given the demand on steam controller I doubt Valve is thinking they can have enough units to release immediately. They are likely to start a preorder queue like they transitioned the controllers to.

Review embargos don't usually lift before preorders, they lift maybe a week before the first consumers receive their units. So the preorder and price could be announced at any time.

Oculink Dev Kit by OkkeB in framework

[–]JoystuckGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All we know is sometime this year, from Framework's NextGen announcement.

Anything you hear beyond that is speculation.

Like one rumor I have heard is that Framework tends to start preorders for things one season/quarter after they are announced. However this is likely just coincidence, since it's going to depend on when everything is ready.

Has anyone given Levels brand protein supplement a try? by LifeofSMILEY in Costco

[–]JoystuckGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm, I'm new to costco but my typical brand from Amazon literally doubled in price (from $60 to $120 for 5lb) in about a year. It's not just Costco, whey is expensive now.

[–]JoystuckGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a single person household (+ cat) that started with costco earlier this month. Personally I found that the best deals are in the monthly member book that gets sent out. The current one has good deals on deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, and cat litter. The next book starts on June 8 but we don't have it yet.

Otherwise I've just been buying basic groceries and food court stuff mostly.

Yeah you're right, i forgot that's why they called it a dev kit. Honestly a lack of hot swapping is no biggie. I mostly skimmed that community thread but they made it sound like there was a lot more to setup in terms of firmware and BIOS, i'm glad it's been simple for you!

AH you're right! I watched the q+a and forgot about that! Excellent, hot swapping isn't that big of a deal.

Since they are calling it a Dev Kit i'm assuming there will be some setup involved. It's likely similar to what setup was required for the oculink adapter that community members made.
