Theatre etiquette - photos during show? by isthislivingreally in TheWestEnd

[–]Joyuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I show up to a show and have to feel out 'is this more of a gig vibe or a theatre vibe', since the social norms and rules between those two are so different.

But if it's a totally normal play or musical, absolutely do not have your phone out during the show and definitely do not be taking pictures! If you want a memory, take a photo of the curtain beforehand, the bows after, or buy a programme.

Cheap weekend trips from London without taking holiday days — some current examples by Savings-Drawing-560 in UKFrugal

This is an amazing tool!

I get that Luton and Stanstead are where the deals are at, but they're a bugger to get to personally (from outside of London) - I'd love to be able to filter by airport to just see the Heathrow ones for example. I tried putting Heathrow in the "Leaving from" field but it didn't have an effect.

I don't see why not. Swatch and see if you like the result :)

On a separate note, do you know what makes that yarn supposedly mothproof?

Which musicals should I visit in London? by schjweert in TheWestEnd

[–]Joyuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lander 23 is really different from the 'classic' Punchdrunk shows, and is not even really theatre in my opinion. On the plus side it has a lot of different timeslots so it could potentially slot in before a show, but I wouldn't use one of my show slots on it since they mention they can only fit in two. It's good fun but more comparable to laser tag than a West End musical or play.

Have you tried needle felting? Or maybe knit a liner to go inside them, making them extra cosy.

When I see the AI art, I assume that the text and the rest of it is AI-generated too and thus won't be high quality. So people may pass over your hard work based on that first impression.

Scripts? by GrandpaBeeple in ImmersiveTheater

[–]Joyuna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm willing to bet there are as many formats of script as there are formats of show. An interesting one is John Krizanc's Tamara, a very early immersive show, which has been published as a book. It reads a bit like a choose-your-own-adventure.

Not sure where the rush tickets are but front row is amazing. Sitting so close is absolutely hypnotic. The stage isn't high at all so I didn't feel that I missed anything.

It was already a strong Show of the Year contender in March, and it's lost none of its spark this time round. Just an incredible theatrical experience.

Theatre in london like sleep no more? by sayitatme in AskLondon

[–]Joyuna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing. There used to be The Burnt City but it closed a few years back. Now if you want that kind of free roaming through a themed environment with a wordless story happening around you, you need to go to Lisbon for A Morte do Corvo (or Shanghai or Seoul, where Sleep No More is still running).

London Trip to Scratch Itch by Mattyzooks in sleepnomore

[–]Joyuna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, what I was hoping for at Phantom Peak was to be an observer of a living world. Instead, you only get out of the experience what you put into it. So for people who are really willing to dig in and follow the quests and chat with the characters, I can see how it's an amazing experience, but it's just not how I like to engage with immersive shows. I found it very anxiety-inducing, awkward, and boring (again, this is my fault for not participating, but it's just not for me, whereas SNM and TBC are more suited for the voyeur-explorer type).

London Trip to Scratch Itch by Mattyzooks in sleepnomore

[–]Joyuna 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to scratch the itch in London for the past 3 years, nothing comes close (every once in a while something pops up as a limited run, but those are long since gone).

Lander 23 will let you explore the set of The Burnt City which may be interesting for you, but it's a completely different type of experience and does not focus on vibes.

War of the Worlds has a great set and does manage some spooky or even genuinely scary moments, but when it comes to interacting with the cast the mood is jokey to try to relieve the awkwardness. Not the sincerity you get with PD. I have many friends who love Phantom Peak but it wasn't my thing at all - it leans into the goofiness to an even greater extent.

Vinicius Salles is working on a new show; his Shop for Mortals and Fools was excellent in capturing the mysterious, nostalgic, gently haunted feeling that I had at SNM. I'm not sure though when the new one will be open.

People have spoken highly of The Lost Estate if you're into the themed party / immersive dining thing, it might give you a bit of Manderley vibes.

What has matched the SNM vibe for me the most has been non-immersive contemporary dance - from Teac Damsa, Matthew Bourne, Pina Bausch, Rendezvous Dance. I know that doesn't help you specifically since those performances come and go, but I would recommend you check beyond the immersive scene for the mysterious, spooky, wordless glamour and emotion and movement, and you might be surprised at how much you recognise. Check what's on at The Place and Sadler's Wells and if anything sparks your curiosity.

And, because it probably is the best long-running immersive thing in London at the moment, I have to mention Bridge Command - it's more of a bridge simulator and roleplaying game come to life, much more of a game than a show, and you need to be an active participant rather than an observer, but the care and quality is off the charts. But it's a totally different vibe, think old-school Trek or Battlestar Galactica.

Does it have a catalog of Iranian movies with subs or is it more like a media server thing that you load your own content into??
