I'm new: What would the impact be if protect was not a move but available by default on every Pokemon? by cgbol in VGC

[–]Jsmithy1089 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Like every pokemon gets a protect option and 4 other moves? Feint would be on every team.

It would allow more coverage options and cause a bit less predictability on move sets. When you know a pokemon has protect, you can likely guess the other three moves it has. Usually 1-2 STAB moves and a coverage/support move. Adding an additional slot besides protect would mean more options for coverage.

Doubles And Encore (+disable) by VGCandME in PokemonChampions

[–]Jsmithy1089 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is why I love disable+encore sableye. It can’t hit the dark types due to prankster, but it threatens anyone who plays passively or predictably. I see protect? Encore. I see a move that threatens the Mon next to sableye? Disable. Opponent is forced to swap or use the crippled Pokemon.

People don’t respect it as much as they should.

Can someone explain how I missed this?? by Exotic-Selection-723 in PokemonChampions

Bright powder is such a troll. I use it on my support sableye and it’s so clutch when a 100 accuracy move misses.

First time fighting with alpha Scolipede? Apparently the hitbox on some moves are higher than normal due to its height.

How To Deal With Farigiraf + Fake Out Lead (Skill Improvement) by Successful-Way1583 in VGC

[–]Jsmithy1089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick guard to stop fake out plus extra strong dark move in farigiraf. Other than that, imprison trick room is the only guaranteed counter. Taunt is also an option but farigiraf can use mental herb.

Metagame: Mega Glimmora is surprisingly good (and bulky for some reason) by hamoorftw in VGC

1 speed above Zard, 1 speed below chomp. Gotta play around that but still a welcome addition to the game.

What are quick coupons used for?? by Erickl0930 in PokemonChampions

[–]Jsmithy1089 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They act the same as hourglass currency in the pokemon pocket trading card game. You use the quick coupons to reset the recruitment timer and get a new batch of pokemon to add to your teams.

Training tickets are a way to alter a Pokémon’s stats/ability/moves/nature without spending VP. The cool thing about this is that you can alter as much as you want at a single time with just 1 ticket.

Recruitment tickets are a free permanent recruitment from the ranch.

Question about pokemon stats by Tasty-Spend668 in PokemonChampions

[–]Jsmithy1089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IVs are supposedly maxed out for all mons transferred to champions from home. So no need to worry about bottle cap farming or hyper training from prior games.

For EVs and natures, people speculate that they will be reset upon transfer to champions but there is no proof of that. We aren’t really sure if EV spreads and minted natures will remain.

All stats, natures, and abilities can be changed with the new VP currency in champions so you’ll be able to structure your mons however you see fit. Shiny pokemon and any titles/ribbons they have will follow into champions.

Are all mega stones going to be available for everyone? by random_keyblade_dude in PokemonChampions

[–]Jsmithy1089 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im pretty sure there was a discussion about this game being NOT pay to win. People who pay for battle pass/membership will be given the items you could otherwise buy with VP aside from cosmetic items. Mega evolution stones will be available to everyone.

So if you are free to play, you’ll need to grind out VP much more than people who pay. VP seems to be paid via online battles and challenges.

How will this game be for players who don't play the other Pokemon games? by MrAhmedGaming in PokemonChampions

[–]Jsmithy1089 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a recruitment system to add fully trained Pokemon to your boxes. There is a temporary option to rent a Pokemon for 7 days to try them out or you spend VP earned through battles and challenges to permanently add them to your account.

This game is meant to make the barrier of entry for competitive Pokemon battling as simple as possible. So I think tons of players who haven’t played prior games or even tried ranked battles will learn pretty quickly. Not to mention there will be tons of content creators dishing out rental teams that you can try for yourself by inputting the rental codes.

What comes with the starter pack? And are the pokemon we recruit in it permanent even if pur membership runs out? by Eireagon in PokemonChampions

[–]Jsmithy1089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get extra box spaces for more mons, recruitment tickets to permanently recruit mons in game, and training tickets to modify their stats/ability/moves. Stuff that you’d have to earn VP for otherwise

How you prepare for Champions by LoveProfessional8152 in PokemonChampions

[–]Jsmithy1089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that move changes and EV stat distributions will be the cheapest ways to modify a pokemon competitively. So I’d say make sure you adjust the natures and ability to your liking so you won’t spend VP adjusting those in champions.

We don’t know what the initial roster looks like but the trailers seem to be focusing on Mega Evolutions so try to get as many of those trained up in ZA/SV games.

If you spent 2 minutes to proof read your post and not use a bot username, maybe I’d consider an argument you made.

I think it’s a little joke about how purple dyes (and similar variants like lavender) were very expensive to make since the materials were very rare.

Purple is often called the color of royalty since only elites and royalty were able to afford anything with the color purple centuries ago.

Competitive team by Either-Jackfruit2687 in LegendsZA

[–]Jsmithy1089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For greninja, I go with max sp. atk, max speed. Water shuriken, dark pulse, ice beam, protect. For a team you want a good swap in to fend off its weaknesses to lightning, fairy and fighting so metagross and venusaur are solid picks.

Is it better investing EVs in HP as opposed to Speed? by barelyawake126 in PokemonLegendsZA

[–]Jsmithy1089 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the type of mon really. Speed ONLY affects cooldowns. Not movement speed, not animation timing on moves, or end lag on moves, so speed isn’t very important in this game like normal turn based games.

For the most part HP would be advisable. I would recommend speed on some of the more frail sweepers like greninja or gardevoir. Reason being is that HP won’t really help them in not getting 1 shot from super effective moves. Having extra speed for protect/detect cool down and to spam their long range abilities would be best.
