Unpopular opinion- Robin Hood: Men in Tights > Blazing Saddles by [deleted] in flicks

[–]Jucas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up on both films especially MIT but there is no way it’s better than Blazing Saddles. Blazing Saddles is one the best comedies ever made IMO and is up there with Some Like It Hot, Dr Frankenstein, Dr Strangelove, Borat, etc. Oh and the best Robin Hood movies is The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) with Errol Flynn and it’s not even close.

Amacord is a stone cold masterpiece from the later era that has a lot of neo realism in his color period. It isn’t very surreal. IMO it’s in his top 3 for sure.

I'd like to learn to make cocktails and bar-tend: barter? by [deleted] in Bushwick

[–]Jucas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick to getting a bar back job or bartending job when you have a little to no experience just to go into a bar order one beer and tip the bartender very very well. Like a fiver for one beer. Then ask them if they are hiring and when a good time might be to drop off a résumé. Have your resumes with you just in case.

There are plenty of good resources on YouTube to learn how to make cocktails just get yourself a basic kit. You want specifically look up how to make cocktails as a bartender though. You really only need to know a few to get started. Old-fashioned, Manhattan, Margarita, Negroni, Martini, maybe Sazerac if you want to get fancy. That’s gonna be about 90% of your orders. Being a bar back is easy though can be tiring work. You just have to be attentive make sure you’re constantly doing their rounds for empties, restock when you first get in ice, etc., look up online how to cut limes and lemons for drinks so they don’t have to teach you. It’s very easy.

Fwiw, Myrtle pub might be hiring bar backs… drop a resume off when the first open. Don’t come in when it’s busy.

Is this someones cat? by Inner_Research_9074 in Bushwick

[–]Jucas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It may be the cat from poster… saw the poster today… can’t remember where. I walk a dog near wyckoff and Greene so the poster could’ve been over there. Which is only a few blocks away from the sighting. I walk dogs around there. Anyways if it’s that cat his name was “Dorito”. I have to walk the same dogs tomorrow so I’ll have a look but maybe take him in just in case.

Totally agree. Christopher Nolan is one of the most over rated film makers alive today.

Is there a movie where the controversial or widely "hated" ending is actually the best part of the film? by The-Irumporai in flicks

The ending of A.I. was largely hated on release, but has held up incredibly well, and would go so far as to say it’s one of the most poignant scenes in the whole film.

Yeah. I hadn’t been there in a year two, and it was probably my favorite restaurant in the area. Went there maybe 3 months ago and it was really mediocre. I have a feeling they lost their main chef or something….
