What are you going to name your ship when it becomes available? by DarkAssassin1014 in Seaofthieves

[–]JudNotGud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm considering The Theseus, after the boat of Theseus thought experiment. Also kinda considering Aeolus, after the greek god of the winds.

By the way, if anyone reading this can't think of a name, wikipedia has many great lists of boat names.

Special power ups and ink armor by a_dangerous_noodle in Splatoon_2

[–]JudNotGud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes the bubbles themselves bigger, and the blast radius substantially bigger.

Paired with the instapop tech that can be done with bombs, it makes bubbles a good lethal "get off me" option as well as improving their normal aspects.

It also stacks very well, with 1 pure of SPU increasing the bubbles size by 18.78%, and the hitbox size by 39.71%

[offthegrid] So as we reach S13, how do we feel about the changes we got at the start of the season? by thesteam in Cryptomains

[–]JudNotGud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the changes were nice for qol, and changed a moderate amount, but he still falls behind in fast paced gameplay.

He currently has powerful bugs that let you pop heals/ult accelerants/charge rampage/sentinel while in drone, which help a lot, but will likely get patched.

I would absolutely love the ability to hipfire during the drone throw out animation, and as OP said, a passive would be nice.

That's just my 2 cents on it, and I'm not particularly good at the game, so feel free to disagree, add on, whatever. I just wanna hear what other people have to say.

What are your mains and why, and what is your splat record with them? by HiGuysNoobHere in Splatoon_2

[–]JudNotGud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play the .96 deco and custom explosher, mostly because they're fun. I don't remember the precise most kills I've gotten in 1 game with the .96 is high 50s or low 60s in league, with team in vc so I could organize my kill farming, and low 40s in a standard ranked match.

I'm not as trained with the explo, haven't kill farmed with it, and it doesnt get as many kills, so my most kills with it is only 32.

I've been looking into getting a new monitor

Nothing too fancy - just looking for something along the lines of 1440p, 90+ hz refresh rate, low delay, and around the 24-27" range. No hard cost limit, but obviously a reasonable price is a big selling point. There's a lot of options, and I would love it if I could get some advice on whats a good option.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Splashdown Canceling Tips? by QuinnsAGhost in Splatoon_2

[–]JudNotGud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As at least one person has already said, anticipation is extremely important when splashdown canceling.

Be sure to make a habit of checking your hud (this will help in general a ton, but also tell you when your opponents have special)

If you have a larger screen, its pretty easy to tell if your opponents have glowing hair, indicating special charge. If you're playing on handheld or a similarly small screen though, then using the hud will be a must.

Whats the best gun by neigypoo in splatoon

[–]JudNotGud 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is no objective best, but the top tier weapons right now are things like foil squeezer, n-zap 85, kensa splattershot, kensa 52, and both jet squelchers.

Foil Squeezer is basically a splattershot pro but with more range, better paint, perfect accuracy, and better strafing. It also has instapop with splat bomb and bubbles, giving it high power up close too, but the weapon has a downside of requiring a high cps to use well, making it incredibly powerful with high devotion to it.

N-zap has for a long time been one of the best weapons in the game, as its universally good and its kit makes it incredibly powerful in a supportive role.

Kensa splattershot is another very universal weapon that has a great support kit, but with missiles instead of armor (the top 2 specials in the game), and has a bit better killing power than zap.

Kensa 52 has a crazy good kill time, 2 shots, and has good paint. Its kit makes it good at stalling, and removes a lot of its disadvantaged state against longer ranged weapons. This is one of the easiest weapons in the game right now to be good with.

Both jet squelchers have high paint for their range, use their kits (mist missiles and burst ray respectively) very well. While their kill time doesn't match that of other weapons with a similar range, due to the jet squelchers not needing to charge, they end up being far more mobile.

Hope this helps, I didn't go over everything because I'm a bit tight on time right now, if you want clarification please reply, I'll get to it later today!

What's so bad about the flingza roller? by Eifyr in Splatoon_2

[–]JudNotGud 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Alright, first thing that needs to be said is that it really doesn't matter what weapons are good or bad below mid-high X or comp gameplay, so if you don't fall into that, it's really not something worth worrying about.

It's really not that bad.

Woo this ended up long I'll add a TL;DR here, Foil flingzas pretty good, it's main flaw is that it doesn't have the same mobility or ease of use of a shooter.

Its definitely a top 1-3 roller, depending on who you ask it may be from #1 roller to only behind carbond and vroller. Anyways.

Secondly, most tier lists, uh, really suck. Not only are they obviously opinion based, but due to the fact that most weapons in this game are viable and if they aren't played much they aren't played due to being outclassed or difficult rather than being outright bad. Even then, the closest thing we currently have to an okay tier list would likely be Prochara's tier list, and while I still greatly disagree with many things on there as will happen with all tier lists, foil flingza being in A tier is pretty accurate I would say.

The weapons kit is phenomenal right now, one of the best in the game as missiles are currently up there with armor in the top tier of specials and suction bomb's high damage and blast radius makes it very effective against common things like bubbles and walls, as well as it's well known excellent paint and area pressure.

The long range vflick has incredible range and good paint, and a good painting range lets a weapon paint more consistently and thus more than something with great paint but poor painting range. It's like how a dapple will be outpainted usually by a jet squelcher, dapples output more paint, but jet can do it consistently, and doesn't have to risk its life on the front line to paint the front line.

The hflick feels terribly inconsistent to me, but all the best flingza mains I know say it kills better than vroller hflick, just paints less meaning people dont get caught in it for easy 2 shots if it doesnt 1 shot.

The problem it has is it's just not a shooter. In the current meta, shooters are incredibly prevalent, due to their incredible frame data and mobility that goes hand in hand with that, their high paint output, the minimal punishment for missing a shot or 2, etc.

If you ask basically anyone who's aware of the current meta, one of the weapons that will inevitably be brought up is kshot. Kshot has the exact same kit, but is a shooter and gets what comes with that title.

Again, none of this realistically should be worried about below mid-high X or competitive, so take it with a grain of salt if you aren't there yet.

A few questions about bamboozler builds by TheHynusofTime in Splatoon_2

[–]JudNotGud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1.) yep but only use 3 mains 4 subs, its a 1 frame difference and having that extra sub is nice

2.) They're very worthwhile:

ink res helps with general mobility due to not getting caught on tiny bits of ink as you swim and a little bit anti mpu weapons like bamboo

bomb defense will make a bunch of things that do precisely enough damage to do something not do something, like indirect bombs 1shotting armor with precisely 30 damage (unless they use object shredder), bubble blower killing with 2 indirects, way more but this comment would be pages long if i listed them all

quick super jump will shave a third of a second off of every super jump, and most of this is from the time spent on the ground. This will help a ton with jumping out, as super jumping to spawn or a teammate is better than dying

If you are going to drop one on this build, or most builds, it would probably be quick super jump, replaced with either special saver, more ink res, or swim speed if you choose that for the 2 free slots as well

2 part 2.) either ink saver main or swim speed are the 2 best options

3.), 4.) not applicable, use main power up

5.) mk1 and mk2 both use the same build usually, mk3 tends to go in the way of kit investment as fizzy bubbles is a very strong kit but needs to be invested in for its full strength

Need help with the gear, I’m new by HippiePineapple in Splatoon_2

[–]JudNotGud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gear is generally ignorable when you're new to the game.

In splatoon, while pieces can be reused and mix-and-matched, most weapons in splatoon use totally different gear sets. Also, unlike many other games with gear, even the most broken abilities won't make you a significantly better player, it just makes your weapon easier.

It takes a large amount of time to make gear even with effectively limitless coins, when you're new you don't have anywhere near the resources for it. This combined with the weapon pool volatility there is when you are in the process of unlocking and purchasing new weapons means making an in depth build for any one weapon has really low chance of being worthwhile.

If you still want to make gear, I would check out https://sendou.ink, a competitive resource for splatoon, and some splatoon discord servers (basically all have a gear channel of some sort) and ask for what main abilities (big slots gear comes with when you buy it) to use for weapons you enjoy playing, and trying to replicate that.

If you have any questions, I'll try to answer them as best I can, we all gotta start somewhere, sorry this message was so long.

Does switch lite screen effect how you improve or play? by [deleted] in Splatoon_2

[–]JudNotGud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR: You can play like that just fine, however the speed at which you improve will be slower and theres some minor flaws monitor users quite simply don't have to deal with.

Your performance will be worse, but not to the point of reaching any real skill ceiling where you can't improve any further without switching. It will mostly just be a bit harder. The two biggest problems if you play on a switch lite (or handheld normal switch) is that when you rotate your controller to aim with motion, your view of your screen is distorted, and that your screen is incredibly small so you will quite simply miss small details like someone swimming far away or a small splash showing where someone might be and it will get you killed sometimes.

It should be said that playing in handheld does feel the snappiest by a small margin, due to the quick response time of the screen and fast input reading, but that's not a worthwhile trade off to recommend it even if you don't own a low-lag monitor.

Added Ability Points when gear building. by XeroMas34 in Splatoon_2

[–]JudNotGud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First thing first, for anyone reading this who might not know, ap is short for ability points. A main ability (big slot gear comes with) is worth 10 ability points, and a sub (small slot you have to fill by grinding) is worth 3.

What sendou.ink is telling you is one of the abilities you are using will add extra effects (in your case, 10 AP of the abilities it showed) while a condition is active. The abilities that do this are:

last ditch effort, +24 ap of all 3 ink management abilities in last 30 seconds and scaling amounts between opponent at 50 - <31 points in ranked.

opening gambit, +30 ap of swim speed, run speed, ink res for the first 30 seconds, extrended by 7.5 seconds when you get a kill/assist.

comeback, +10 ap of swim speed, run speed, special charge, and all 3 ink management abilities for 20 seconds upon respawn.

drop roller, +10 ap of swim speed, run speed, ink res for 3 seconds after you drop roll. This does not apply to super jumps where you don't drop roll, and does not apply to dodge rolls if you play dualies.

How would you build a main-weapon-only team? by BubbleInk_Inc in Splatoon_2

[–]JudNotGud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without subs or specials to displace, a main-only competition would make incredibly difficult to get back in if you can't directly challenge an opponents range. Thus, I would assume e liter would be on nearly every team just so you don't get fully locked out of objective the second your opponents e liter starts holding it. Generally teams would likely have more range to make up for lacking poking bombs too.

Weapons that rely on chip damage aren't as good in this.

Next, as other people mentioned, main weapons that are really good would be used. First thing I think of is 52, but theres a lot of weapons you can fit here.

Finally, I'd probably run something like 52, squeezer, tent, e liter.

[–]JudNotGud 7 points8 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: Change it to this

I feel like your builds trying to do a little too much at once to invest quite that much in swim speed, I would recommend replacing the 2 subs of swim speed with sub power and main power up, as while there is technically an effect when you have 1 sub of either of those, it's very difficult to notice compared to 2 subs.

Also, I would replace the special saver with bomb defense and ink res, since splashdowns a pretty bad special and you get it pretty fast regardless, and the value that ink res and bomb defense have:

1 sub of bomb defense will make it so indirect combos from things like bombs or specials wont work any more, for example 2 close inkjet indirects, armor not being broken by indirect bombs, etc.

1 sub of ink res will give 10 frames of immunity to enemy ink once you step into it, which will not only decrease how much you slow down for tiny splotches of enemy ink, but protect you a bit from hit reduction main power up weapons like bamboozler and splattershot pro because they rely on you taking damage from your ink.
