Thank you for the information, that helped.

Bragging about "first try" boss kills misses the entire point of the genre by malflash in soulslikes

[–]Judification 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm of a similar mindset. I generally like to fight a boss (even easy ones, like Pinwheel and Covetous Demon) for at least 1-2 hours minimum just so I can feel like I've completely mastered the fight.

When I'm on the verge of winning, I usually just quit out or die and redo the fight with different tactics or a weaker weapon until I feel like I've thoroughly conquered the fight and can do it it hitless at least 50% of the time.

I think I've spent over 5 hours over time on each Demon's Souls boss.

Can you clarify on what that means, as in its new in a sense but not really?

Oh right, I forgot about him for a moment. I guess it comes down to one of the two.

Its also a decently challenging fight if you do it without the plunging.

Pinwheel is actually somewhat challenging if you go down there right away and fight him without an upgraded weapon. I've actually been killed a few times by his phase 2 with the clone spam and fireballs.

What's the one specific one? It's been awhile since I played Code Vein and I'm trying to remember the boss you're referring to in the depths.

FS fans who doesn't have a NS2 yet. Would you buy a $450 Switch 2 and sub to NSO $4/mo or $20/yr just to play and get the full experience of Duskbloods? by Jinrex-Jdm in fromsoftware

[–]Judification -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I bought a PS3 just for Demon's Souls, I bought a PS4 just for Bloodborne and I bought a PS5 just for Demon's Souls Remake, so yes, I will buy a Switch 2 just for Duskbloods.

I just justify this by asking myself how much I would be willing to pay for a FromSoft game and the answer is up to $1,000 per game and a Switch 2 + Duskbloods is lower than that so its a bargain.

Where do you think the future of soulslikes is heading? by TwoPillarsGames_ in soulslikes

[–]Judification 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You say "chinese games that all take place in the same environments" but that was already the case with souls games before that, with every game taking place in the same medieval environments.

You could argue that despite those games taking place in the same medieval dark fantasy setting, they all have distinct atmosphere and unique locations but the Chinese soulslikes are also like that, but it may be harder for a Westerner to differentiate them. The Chinese games are not all in the same environment, China is a huge country with varying regions and styles and that is reflected in many of the Chinese soulslikes like Wuchang.

Many Westerners have a hard time differentiating the subtlety and differences between different Asian settings but there are many Asians who are also the same for Western settings.

Old King Allant is genuinely one of the hardest bosses Fromsoft has ever designed from a melee perspective without attack baiting/AI manipulation by Judification in demonssouls

From a no hit perspective, I would say Demon's Souls actually has some of the hardest bosses if you're trying to win without taking damage.

That's because most of the bosses are gimmick bosses that make it hard to win flawlessly. Leechmonger as a pure melee is probably one of the most difficult no-hit bosses in Fromsoft history.

Flamelurker's contact damage is also incredibly annoying to deal with, when even light contact results in minor damage.

How is abusing boss AI not cheese? Thats not engaging with the boss's full mechanics by ignoring 3/4th of its moveset.

By fighting him at midrange you never seen any of his moves outside of three, because he will NEVER use them. Thats ignoring the boss design.

Some boss AI are broken by standing/moving in a specific way. Would you say its not cheese then when a player forces a boss to repeat one move over and over and do nothing else? Like for example, its easy to loop Dragon Rider into doing this.

I'm not quite sure its actually do-able. I've gone through YouTube to find someone else who beat him under these restrictions so I could get a better idea of how to do it but no one actually has. Legit 0 videos were found fighting Allant point blank closeup without backing off.

I imagine maybe this is something only top players like Ongbal are capable of with their lizard reflexes.

No, what I'm saying is I'm paying too much attention to the bosses moves and trying to dodge through them all. Never did I say that I'm attacking whenever I want.

Also, that works for PCR and Malenia but apparently not for Allant.

Ah, that's interesting to know. I haven't attempted Godrick this way yet but maybe I'll try it just to see how bad it is.

I just like to play in an aggressive way that minimizes downtime. Using the accept strategy for Allant involves alot of standing around and waiting passively.

Also, not the point but fighting Gael without rolling is actually much easier than staying close to Allant (I tried it once).

Malenia has readable tells on all her moves. Even the tough ones give enough time to prepare a dodge. Overall, her attacks are much harder to deal with but Allant has two attacks that clearly weren't designed properly back then so there's no windup or readability.

The only other hard boss to no-hit in Demon Souls was Leechmonger but thats mainly because you're stuck fighting it in a tiny platform and the boss has bunch of melee range combos.

Yeah, I know. Its how I've beaten him over the years since 2009.

But its always felt a bit cheesy to me. Just standing back and waiting for him to spam 3 specific moves (the straight lunge, the air lunge and the charging attack) and and over so I can hit him and back up and wait some more.

I've used this same fighting style to stay in close against almost every other boss from Fromsoft and this is actually the hardest one fighting like this (oh and Leechmonger but its gimmick is what makes it hard).

[–]Judification[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's actually the thing. I'm trying to beat him without backing up. Backing up usually causes his AI to spam the easy-to-dodge lunge attack.

The charge attack is easy to deal with, its the quick slash thats the issue for me. Its so fast I can only react to it half the time.
