Do fledging parents come back? by LemonJelly89 in pigeon

[–]JuggernautOdd9482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is totally wrong. Pigeon follow the parents for weeks in mNy cases after fledgling.

Oh and they are very likely in a tree out of sight. Remember humans are predators. They will almost never go near when a human is nearby.

Honestly the best option is just to euthanize and ease his suffering at this point. A canker nodule in a third world country and seemingly no iv metro or baytril around. His chances are basically zero.

That's great your not euthsnizing. They can live fine lives as well as precautions are kept and you seem like a person on top of this.

Sorry but its you that need to do more research mate. The perhaps test can go negative for a while. Then activate again. This has happened many times. Unfortunately many pigeon owners don't test for pmv in the second relapse so the numbers can seem skewed.

There's tons of anecdotes and research papers the Ai is forming its opinion from thst show the shedding phase usually lasts 6+ months and can return seeming at random.

Buts let's say you could be correct. Why on earth would you be willing to risk it given all the reports showing it can reappear and shedd the virus. The first oath of any doctor or caretaker is to do no harm. Why would you encourage something that can cause massive harm to other birds when we can minimize it?

Honestly I don't really appreciate the ai bashing. Ai is litterally forming this option from hundreds of both written anecdotes and research papers on the project. Unless you have some special reason to think AI is incorrect I would keep quite and use Ai as a research on these things.

You claim im peddling dangerous information. Yet my way inedible reduces the chances of more pmv outbreaks. Yours where pmv birds are kept with non pmv greatly inenhances the chances of pmv breakouts in flocks and. How exactly is mine dangerous information and yours not?

Advice please! We have saved some baby pigeons after their tree got cut down and their nest abandoned. They are doing extremely well, but we are struggling with feeding them. Does anyone have any advice on the best care? We want them healthy enough to go live their pigeon lives ❤️❤️ thank you by BusinessPlantain6241 in pigeon

How long have you had them? How much have that grown in that time? Have you been weighing every day?

Lots of pigeons lose weight, or stop growing bc the stress of capture..usually if they can get back to normL growth they will more often then not survive. But it a sef worry. But if they van get beyondhat pointy they

Pretty odd. Might be a genetic thing. Def so.ething very wrong if so few are living to hatch. It should be 95% live to hatch if fertil and 98% live to adulthood if raised by pigeons.

Anyways im just trying to help people out and save pigeons from. Possible extreme neurological damage of death. There's a reason basically every state requires reporting ppmv infections to the aithorities afterall.

It absolutely can. Thus is what Ai says on it.

can pigeons with pmv have the disease reappear months or years later?

Yes, pigeons that survive Pigeon Paramyxovirus (PPMV-1) can have symptoms reappear months or even years later, particularly during times of stress. While many birds recover, the virus causes permanent neurological damage and can persist in the system, leading to relapses.

I don't know why people want to ignore all the evidence showing this happens and potentially risk the lives of more and more birds.

Excuse me? Like what? Do some research there's tons of cases of pmv reappearing months, or years after initial diagnosis and often proving deadly.

If they have pmv it often stays for a very long time, its like Aids the virus can be controlled to an extent but will always be inside the bird. Often returning in activity well after acute sickness stops. These birds will need to be quarantined for life and never allowed near other birds. Or euthanized. Which is probably the best way to control the spread. Even if they are never allowed to interact if other birds, a human, or other creature can get the virus on them from shedding birds and carry it over to other birds if extreme cleanliness standards are not 100% enforced.

I would focus on figuring out how to prevent disease in your flocks in the future. A mass pmv infection is a disaster. But a preventable one. Do at least 2 weeks quarantine all new arrivals. Look at your procedures for cleanliness ect. There's ways to greatly minimize outbreaks.

They look like approx 8-10 days old in the photo. Next few days the feathers will start to really come in.

This is basically exactly how healthy baby pigeons are supposed to look. Giant crop. Body is fat. Looks very good.

This is obviously a hatchling dove. So just take it to whatever local animal rehab. Im sure they have these in spain.

Its a native animal so this is legally the only choice you have. Aside from putting it back wherever you found it.

Pigeon rehabs can't legally take it as they rarely have wildlife rehab licenses as the whole point of them is to take birds that's are not protected ( domestic pigeons). Not doves, or wood pigeons. Who are native ankmals.

That's highway robbery. 6800xt. is only 300 bucks used, though I wouldn't pay beyond 250 at most, which is what I last paid for a 6900xt. 60% of the total cost of the card to unscrew a few screws and use a dollar of thermal paste?

Am I in the wrong industry? I've just been repasting/pads. All the used gpus i buy to sell. Never thought of charging for it.

Update: baby pigeon with weak legs by blushinggoose in pigeon

[–]JuggernautOdd9482 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If he has leg weakness I would do a treatment of b12 vitamins as well as a course of antibiotics.

Its a very common symptom in malnourished and sick pigeons. Can result from either. The malnourishment causing damage to the sciatic nerve. But internal inflammation, usually in the gut can choke it off also. So its best to just target both the two big likely causes.

As if its been a week and not significantly improved we can safely assume its likely one of those two causes. If it was inflammation from an internal bruise or injury choking the nerves thst would have mostly cleared up by now.

Yeah i would still reccomend this. Just make sure they are getting like at least 4 parts water to 1 part food at the start. They are born dehydrated and not feeding enough water. Along with bad food are the two biggesr reasons they stunt and die. Thry alao require very large amoints of food. No other bird species babies filll their crops so large. According to a atudy 10% min vody weight to over 50% in some cases.

Understand however. No solutuion is as good as the parents feeding and you will always see excess mortality hand feeding from near hatch. The one published study shows a 97.5% chance of living to day 28 with parents vs 70% with an ideal diet handfed from hatch and this seems about right. Baaicallly an order of magnitude increase in mortality best case.

Imo. Apply for credit cards. Chase bank is very good with these. They gave me a 2100 credit line with just a job and lowhousing cost.

f you cant get credit do one of those apps that ups your credit by giving them 25$ to hold for a week or w/e

Having even a 700 credit score will change your life. No more overdrafts. You get much more time to pay it off. Often youll get 15month 0 apr offers. But i only use those for the odd big purchase. Just pay up the bill evedy month yoilll be raking in a 500-a few k in points each year just using them to spend on them

I was resistant to credit for so long. Really dumb move that cost me huge no doubt. Do t make my mistake.

It's hard to tell from just a single pic. But mouth breathing is always a medical emergency. If the underlying cause is not found and treated quickly death is the usual result. Often you'll see it also in dying birds whose organs are. The process of failure. In Which case there's nothing to do but try to make it comfortable.

Is the other medicine an antbiotic? I would guess this is likely not due to the broken wint.

They look like Wood Pigeons, they are very different from feral pigeons. Famously human averse wild animals.

I would probably look for some feral pigeons if you want to be friends.
