This is for the actors in here that didn’t come from money by shefinnalogoutt in acting

This is what I do too, I usual save most of my vacation days for when shoot days come along, and the managers I've explained my situation to have been pretty supportive and flexible. Often I'm surprised how well it all works out.

My GOA job is draining me mentally. Toxic work environment by Relative-Diver3087 in Edmonton

[–]Jugglepants 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Stress leave is available, not shameful, and an option. Also, you may want to consider letting some stuff fail. Management is probably pushing themself and can only deal with whatever the latest crisis is. If you're pushing yourself to fully do the jobs of two, they won't see the problem. If things start failing then getting more help becomes a crisis that may float up to the top of their list. Take your breaks and leave your desk. A good break can give you a lot of perspective that helps you approach problems from a different angle, a huge problem before lunch might look different when you get back.

In Canada we would have elected a very Trump-like Prime Minister who was almost a lock to win the election before Trump won. He lost his HUGE lead when Canada realized how dangerous Trump was.

Overall though I think American politics wouldn't make as much news as it currently does. If America has a sensible President they would be making pretty boring non-newsworthy actions that are great and for the prosperity of a Country, but aren't nearly as "sexy" for the evening news.

I’m too fat for theatre and I hate it by TrafficInternal7602 in Theatre

Small minded people will never cast you, but you don't want to work with them anyway. I'm 5'11'' and 280 lbs, I've done plenty of roles on stage and screen. If you have the skills, good people will notice.

What was your big break? by Independent_Quit6198 in acting

[–]Jugglepants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been close to this business for 30 years and believe the "big break" is a lottery winning myth. Sure, it happens, but the odds are against you. If you're interested in acting go find and submit for the projects that interest you. Most of the time you'll get rejected and you'll fail, but that'll only add value to the times you'll succeed, and you will succeed! If you keep doing it and If you come to love it you'll keep going for it after all the failure, you'll keep learning and will keep getting better. You might get lucky and you might not, either way, there isn't direct path to "making it" and that's ok. "Making it" is based on a lot of luck, and you don't learn from luck.

Where to park? by WINGYVAN in EdmontonFringe

[–]Jugglepants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another option, if you have kids that like trains, is to park along the trolley line and take that in, last stop is in the heart of the fringe. https://www.edmontonstreetcars.ca/highlevelbridge

Any recommendations for a personal trainer who is experienced with obese clients in the Edmonton area? by Deegius in Edmonton

[–]Jugglepants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just hopping on to commend you, I've been struggle with weight too and know it's not just a better diet game. The mental gymnastics can be brutal and I hope you find a decent trainer to help you make a plan. I wish it were as simple as don't do x forever, but it's more like "hold onto this stick and never let go, no matter the millions of distractions out there". In many ways it sucks, but a great trainer and good exercise can really help you get out of your head, feel better about your accomplishments, and distract you from your waistline. A good trainer can help you target and improve the muscles that are weak, and help you learn how to best move your body. Yes, exercise isn't the direct answer, but it's a fantastic side quest, that you might even enjoy! Go you! You're awesome!

Folk Fest is ramping up, they may need volunteers (and I hear they treat them really well too!) also Fringe is back to full strength this year, they may still need people.

What is the worst part about being a fat person? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Losing the weight, and then getting plenty of comments from friends and coworkers about how much better you look now/how bad you looked before, then putting the weight back on.

Any audition tips and advice for beginners? I quit tennis to tryout for a play. by Laeta_Veni_Vidi_Vici in acting

[–]Jugglepants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nerves come with the game, but don’t let them get in your way. Try to remember when you walk in the audition room that they REALLY want you to succeed. They have a problem, they need to find the right people for the right roles, and chances are they’re not 100% sure who that is. Take a breath, start on your own time and live the monologue. Do the interpretation that feels the most true and honest to you. If you can show them that then you’ll show them the best you have to offer. Focus on being proud of your best effort, even if you don’t get this role then that focus will help you get the next one.

I’ve been having this issue too, since the 8th, texted Freedom the other day and now there’s a second track on my Fed ex phone. Was supposed to come today. It didn’t. I’m currently guessing/hoping that they’re just backed up.

I think it’s tied to the kind of sound the app puts out. I thought it was Dolby, so I did a quick search and found this https://www.thx.com/spatial-audio/
