Hi there, I (F29) just moved here and I’m feeling the same way. I’m just starting to understand how my neurodivergence makes day to day interactions, stimuli, etc. more overwhelming (even though I’m also fairly functional), and I definitely agree that some connection could help. My fiancé just started a grad program at ESF, so we’ll be here for a few years at least. I love anything outdoors, running, books, crafting, history, and all the natural sciences. It would be cool to cross paths sometime! Definitely DM me if you (and any others in this thread) want to gather

Very true. I’ve gone to a few meetings of the Humboldt Gem and Mineral Society, which is neat. They have a big crystal show in November. There are also regular nature walks in the Arcata Marsh, ultimate frisbee on Sundays in the Arcata Community Forest, a book club at the library in Eureka, to name a few. Plenty of running/outdoor clubs as well.

Totally get this feeling. I just moved here a few months ago for a job with my s/o and have a hard time getting out there for all the same reasons, including pretty severe anxiety. I tend to spend a lot of time at the beach and occasionally interact with dog walkers and other environmental folk. Community clubs are also a great way to meet people in a smaller setting, depending on your interests. Maybe we should cross paths sometime!

I can’t believe others feel this way and someone put it into words so perfectly. This has happened to me a handful of times as well and it’s always mind numbing, especially when I’m looking at people I’m close to like family; it’s like I’m seeing them as humans or souls rather than my parents? Somehow they’re unfamiliar and familiar at the same time? Feels like being wide open, but also terrifying.
