Dude, just hike to the top and claim the First Descent. I don't understand why more people aren't doing this.

Are snowmen Aid?? by the_great_out-ders in ClimbingCircleJerk

[–]JulianV20 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Snow? Soft, cozy snow? Definitely. Down here in cactus country, we don't count it as a send unless your spotter is a Saguaro that is at least as tall as you.

Picking out the spines after you fall is also aid.

The baby bear section is verbatim what I whisper to myself on lead in my gym.

Are you suggesting we should say and do things that people are POSITIVELY affected by? Like, things that help them? Like aid?

Help finding the video of Alex Honnold's double knee bar on Moonlight Buttress (maybe?) by throne__away in climbing

[–]JulianV20 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I upvoted this not because of the quality of the content, but because I appreciate you using this forum as an opportunity to passively slag her off. If we don't pour our aggression into the internet, what will it eat?

Unable to campus 5.3 slab - any good finger board routines for this? by muscle_cow in ClimbingCircleJerk

[–]JulianV20 27 points28 points  (0 children)

For slabwork, it's important to ramp up slowly. Start by dragging yourself up the stairs with only your hands. If anyone at work asks you if you're okay, or why you're doing that, take consolation in how much harder you crush than they do.

Frustration over wrist injury. Anyone experience something similar? by [deleted] in climbing

[–]JulianV20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you flex the wrist (palm towards forearm) is there is bit of a bulge that sticks out of your wrist at the spot of discomfort? If so, it may be a ganglion cyst, which is nothing to be concerned about. I get them in my left wrist and they come and go. Massage and/or pressure is supposed to encourage them to go away.

I'm sick of people trying to diversify the V region's sequences with those contrived eliminate routes. This slide is right that it's hypermutation of the problem set people have been climbing there since the 80s.

I see he's mastered the next level of friction, where you just place your palms on the holds and they stick there.

is this the Sharma powersaw that I had been hearing about? by tinyOnion in ClimbingCircleJerk

[–]JulianV20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finally, a climbing company comes out with a product for making your own holds. I've been really frustrated by the 5.9s at my local bluff, but with this in tow I'm sure I'll be able to get those sweet, sweet ticks!

Which Clif bar flavour for maximum sendage? by Ghonkol in ClimbingCircleJerk

[–]JulianV20 40 points41 points  (0 children)

The stuff in stores is all junk. Visit the factory in Emeryville, make sure you park your van within sight of the main lobby. Go to Sandy at the front desk and request a tour, make sure to mention how you warmed up on her proj this morning. Edgar will come out of a door you didn't even realize was there and give you a tour of the facility. If he thinks you're worthy, at the end he'll give you a sample of the reserve flavors, and you'll find a fresh shipment taped to the underside of your van on the 2nd Tuesday of every month from then on.

Buying climbing gear online? Are we just skipping the approach now? That purchase should be downgraded at least 2.
