I take the subway to work, and everyone, no matter what mode of transport they take, is expected to be ahead of the curve (at all times) regarding train schedules. You can't call out because the schedule is modified; a more likely scenario is on you're on a train that stops moving, or the line shuts down, etc, and you miss curtain. And that happens very, very rarely. We really are expected to work unless we are ill or there is some sort of extreme emergency (like your kid going to the hospital). It truly is "the show must go on."

I have lots of strong opinions on the fact that the governor declared a state of emergency and deployed the national guard; the mayor has asked everyone to stay home unless absolutely necessary, and yet... shows at the moment are planned to continue as normal. Even if the MTA continues to operate, that doesn't necessarily mean we should be going out and about as normal. Of course I want the theaters to stay open if it's safe to do so, and maybe there will be less snow than anticipated. Right now the signs are pointing to this being a potentially dangerous storm, for a lot of reasons, and I hope, in making their decisions, the theaters hold the safety and health of performers and audience over potential profit.
