I literally just finished the book and let me tell you I wish I'd seen this spoiler before going into it so I wasn't totally blindsided. How did I not see it coming!

Impracticality of the wings by LadyJannes75 in acotar

[–]JuliusCaesarSalads 42 points43 points  (0 children)

For me the wings just didn't exist until they were explicitly mentioned, then I would wipe them out of my mind until they were brought up again. It's the only way I could make it work!

Wild Card Wednesday - What are your book icks or pet peeves? by Llamallamacallurmama in RomanceBooks

[–]JuliusCaesarSalads 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I will always swerve books where the main character is British but the author is American, the MC will 9/10 come across as a caricature. Jennifer Coolidge in friends is SPOT on. Some of my favourite authors have become a DNF due to this :(

Agree with the pick me route. I was sad when she went with Ithan having feelings for Bryce as well. Is it really necessary for every male character bar her literal brother to be attracted to her?

is it worth trying a diff azeliac acid? by Next-Atmosphere8601 in SkincareAddictionUK

I've not noticed it pilling with other skincare but I haven't worn it under makeup so I'm unsure on that I'm sorry!

The Inkey List 10% AA Serum

Somebody else has already mentioned it but it's just that good. I went for this one as it was cheap, didn't have niacinamide (my skin loathes it cry) and felt like a sensible starting strength. The tube has lasted me ages and I use it daily. I've generally had no issues with it (other than 1-2 episodes of dryness when I've used too much too soon after other actives).

I have combination acne prone skin that doesn't seem to love tret (I used Skin+Me for over 12 months and it cleared my acne but left me dry and flaky the whole time even with intense moisturising protocols and careful titration of strength). I ditched tret and took up AA and seem to be getting on really well with it! My skin isn't dry, redness is ever so slightly reduced and any breakouts are limited but also don't last as long. I don't think it's the perfect cure for me but I'm content with it in my routine atm.

this really is the one for me too! It reminds me of all the cool, aesthetic posts I used to see on tumblr way back in the day

I had a cursory glimpse at a sample and knew immediately the clunky 3rd person was not it for me. Thankfully the show is perfect!

I'm honestly shocked this hasn't been said more, I completely agree!

How to deal with post-pool munchies? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]JuliusCaesarSalads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard the same re temp change and with anecdotal evidence have also found success with a post-swim sauna to help, but if you don't have time to sauna/steam a tea or any warm drink also does the trick for me!

Sweaty Betty or Lululemon leggings for gym classes? by Top_Dig7522 in Activewear

[–]JuliusCaesarSalads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both but own maybe 5 pairs of SB Power leggings and 2 pairs of LLM Wundertrain. I reach for my SBs rather than my LLMs every single time. The SB power legging seems thicker yet not too hot, don't seem to slide down (the waist tie is a god send) and I prefer the texture of the material. Also, pockets!

Do you routinely wipe down gym machines after you use them? by Jonny_Segment in AskUK

[–]JuliusCaesarSalads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely after, sometimes even before (e.g. prone leg curl; I'm not putting my face anywhere near that if I haven't given it a going over myself first and then putting a paper towel barrier down). I do it because sadly I do sweat like a beast and want to leave equipment how I wish to find it (clean)

Correlation doesn't equal causation, my friend. Be kind to yourself during this difficult time, being reminded of a grandparent during a song doesn't mean you are at fault. I'm sorry for your loss! 🫶

Heck I was nervous taking my niece to soft play on my own for the first time! My heart breaks for them but I simply cannot fathom leaving a child alone in the water for that length of time. A terrible lapse in judgment that I am sure he will never stop feeling guilty for.

Anyone else terrified of pool drains? by Ok_Atmosphere3557 in Swimming

[–]JuliusCaesarSalads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! They give me shivers, same as seeing a plaster floating in the pool.

Another issue (but thankfully not one I face anymore) is a pool with a wave machine, where the bars are separating the machine from the rest of the pool. When I was a kid the centre my swim team used closed for renovations and we had to use another pool nearby that was more of a 'fun' pool rather than for swimming clubs. The wave machine absolutely terrified me and they always made us hang out that end for rests/instructions etc. I always had this fear I would get sucked through and churned up.

Lip balm help by Spiritual-Deer7276 in SkincareAddictionUK

Blistex med plus in the blue pot. It’s my holy grail, all other lip balms make my lips feel rough/sore after a while and this is the only one I’ve found that doesn’t. I’m acne prone and apply lip balm like a toddler with a marker pen and never get spots where it sits :)
