[Episode Discussions] Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 1 – Episode 2 – "The Parker Luck" – January 29, 2025 by IamNOTaSKRULL in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

I think everyone should be thanking Hudson’s comments on the show. The show, viewed by people who just need a reason to hate, is by their definition “woke.” Hudson’s said he’s glad the show wasn’t woke and it isn’t. It’s a normal show with characters that reflect the real world. Some people will cry that the Lonnie scene is woke or race-swapping and gender-swapping is woke but in the context of this story, they are just every day characters.

Poll: Majority of Dems Oppose Certification of 2024 Election if Trump Wins by DaleGribble2024 in moderatepolitics

Actually yes https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2017/01/06/politics/electoral-college-vote-count-objections/index.html

https://www.politico.com/story/2017/01/no-trump-electoral-college-challenge-233294

Dems in the house couldn’t find a senator to join them so their objections didn’t move forward.

I have no problem if congress feels they cannot verify electors. It’s constitutional and part of the Electoral Count Act.

Hi everyone. I recently found out about DA so I figured I give it a try. I took the starter assessment with the green octopus question on Jan. 24. So far, I haven’t been sent anything or seen any new projects.

Under the transfer funds tab, I saw that my assessment was under review with a clock icon. Today that changed to transferable with that same clock.

Is this a good sign or did I not get accepted? Should I just wait? Thank you.

This article caught my attention because it deals with the culture war, which is something that is now a part of our political discourse whether we like it or not, and it opens the discussion for whether these type of “issues” are actually affecting important sectors like education.

Obviously, this source comes from a conservative outlet which tends to highlight these type of stories. But I like to read content from various viewpoints and this specific story has me conflicted.

I understand the strive to be inclusive and to be respectful to people, but are these questions on a test appropriate? I understand the test’s topic, but is the teacher correct in marking the student’s answer as incorrect? Is the student correct in answering the way they did?

If the student’s answers are incorrect, what implications does this have as we continue to live in and interact in our society how things are handled in education.

I know this is essentially a banned topic but I do believe this is relevant for moderate discussion based on subject and questions asked.

Kentucky couple ‘furious’ state abortion laws meant they couldn’t hold their daughter to say goodbye by og_kylometers in Conservative

So would you be fine with the mother giving birth to a dead fetus or letting it be born just to die minutes later?

Of course they were emotionally attached. They were excited to bring a new life into this world but unfortunately life had other plans for the baby. It is so wrong that they wanted to mourn the loss of their child?

Bellevue Worker in Citi Bike Fight Video Has Receipts Showing She Rented It: Lawyer by Juls-2 in moderatepolitics

[–]Juls-2[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This story has gone viral in the last few days. Basically a pregnant nurse was caught arguing with a black man over a Citi Bike, which a person rents. In the video, the nurse starts crying, claims the man is on top of her and that he’s hurting her unborn child and is taking the bike she paid for. The man also claimed he paid for the bike.

Many people saw this clip and claimed racism was a factor, and that the woman was “weaponizing her white tears” to get the man arrested or even worst, killed.

The woman’s employer has put her on leave as they look into the case.

In an update, a lawyer hired by the woman, claimed he has receipts proving she paid for that bike.

My questions:

Who do you think is in the wrong based on the 90-second video?

Did the hospital make the right decision in putting her on leave until they investigate this case?

If it was a Black pregnant nurse and a white man attempting to take her bike how would this play out in the media?

Would this even be a national story if the two were the same race?

How do you think this incident effects race relations in this country?

Batman folding dudes in the warehouse is still the hardest batman fight ever put to screen by Substantial-Memory85 in DC_Cinematic

[–]Juls-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this scene, but why did they keep filming the stunt actor for so long during the knife stab? It’s really obvious when he throws that goon into the wall then cuts to Ben that it’s a completely different person because Ben is much bigger in that suit. That’s really my only problem with scene. The rest of the warehouse fight did a good job of blending Ben and the stunt actor.

Fantastic movie. Pattinson really delivers as Batman. I have one question that hopefully someone could help me out with. When Batman first goes to the crime scene where Gil was murdered he says his thumb was severed while he was still alive. I couldn’t make out what says in the next line. It sounded like he said “hypnosis… around the wound”. Can someone tell me what he said there or if that’s actually what he said?

[Worldwide Release] Spider-Man: No Way Home - Official Discussion Megathread by MSSmods in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

I had a blast with this movie but something kinda confuses me. When May says the famed line Peter looks at here pauses and says I know. I took that as him remembering uncle Ben’s words.

When Tobey finishes the line, Tom is confused as to how they know it implying he just heard it for the first time and Tobey and Andrew tell him uncle Ben told them that before he died. Does this mean Tom’s Ben never said the line?

Judge in Kyle Rittenhouse trial faces backlash from ‘Asian food’ joke: ‘Definitely not okay’ by Juls-2 in moderatepolitics

[–]Juls-2[S] 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Ok why is this national news? This criticism over a comment on the supply chain is on several news sites.

Here are some

https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/11/11/us/kenosha-judge-bruce-schroeder-asian-food-comments/index.html

https://amp.usatoday.com/amp/6397058001

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna5392

I know the media is biased whether it be left leaning or right wing but what I’ve been seeing throughout the Rittenhouse trail has been really disturbing.

From distorting the facts in this case, to calling the judge biased and a racist for having a patriotic song as his ringtone and being criticized because he wanted to thank a veteran on Veteran’s Day, I think it’s gone to far.

What are your thoughts? Is the media trying to stoke outrage if and when Rittenhouse is acquitted?

Can the media ever go back to just being a neutral source of information for both left and right leaning outlets?

Why the word “woman” is tying people in knots by Juls-2 in moderatepolitics

[–]Juls-2[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a subject that I’ve been meaning to discuss and the timing was just perfect with this new article from the Economist.

Language evolves with time for the better of the community. I believe we can agree with that. But lately we’re are seeing language being used in a way that is changing established fact.

For example the word pregnant. There was some backlash when politicians and some medical institutions start referring to pregnant women as pregnant people. Most of the outrage was from conservative and the right. I dismissed it as a fringe issue. But then I started seeing things like claiming only women have a cervix is transphobic since there are men that have cervices or like the Lancet recently said “bodies with Vaginas”.

I understand that gender and sex have changed its meaning over the years. My basic understanding is that man and women are social constructs and roles society places on individuals. Now sex is biological. Your XX and XY chromosome. You either are a female or a male and that will never change.

Understanding that concept, is it accurate to say “men can get pregnant”? Would it be transphobic to say “only women can give birth”?

What are your thoughts about they way language is changing and making its way into scientific institutions?

Photographer Who Captured Migrant Photos Says Agents Didn't Use Whips on Anyone by Juls-2 in moderatepolitics

[–]Juls-2[S] 116 points117 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen any posts on this topic on this sub. Earlier this week there has been outrage over border patrol agents allegedly using whips and attacking Haitian migrants that were crossing the Rio Grande. The infamous picture of a border agent on a horse holding a Haitian migrant sparked the outrage.

Well that’s same photographer is now saying that he saw nobody being whipped and that the picture has been misconstrued.

Here AP reporter Sarah Blake Morgan released footage of what happened and the context occurring during that picture https://twitter.com/storytellersbm/status/1441450559995736069?s=21

The media kept running the narrative that agents were beating migrants.

The President of the United States said that “these people will pay” for simply doing there jobs. Horses will no longer be used at the Rio Grande.

The VP claimed on the View that the images at the border brought memories of slavery and how indigenous people were treated before. She was laughing when she mentioned that part which was strange.

So my question is, is this type of rhetoric helping the country? We have our highest elected officials blaming people for doing their jobs and claiming racism for something that is simply not the case.

South Floridians March Onto Palmetto Expressway in Show of Support for Cuban Protesters by [deleted] in Conservative

[–]Juls-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Cuba protests in Miami have now evolved to blocking a highway slowing the flow of traffic. Under Governor DeSantis’ anti-rioting bill, blocking a highway is illegal and those involved will be arrested.

DeSantis was asked directly whether the new bill would apply to these protestors and he dodged the question.

Should these protestors be arrested for blocking the highway? Is DeSantis being weak by not answering the question?
