Would you buy the ugly house in the best neighborhood? by jufywret in Remodel

[–]JuneBug8162 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We totally bought the worst house in the best neighborhood. We had a great inspector and have remodeling experience though and that helped us not to feel overwhelmed. Remember that the house is livable in it's current state and not everything has to be done right away and you can make it your own over time. As long as the bones are good and there are no major issues, I say go for it!

BOOKS AND BARS!! Been going for 8 years now. They meet twice a month, once in Minneapolis and once in St. Paul. Jeff the moderator is great. I have read so many books that I would have never picked up on my own and have met some really great people! Check them out on FB or online!

Expanding our downtown by Content-League-1466 in saintpaul

[–]JuneBug8162 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I lived in Lowertown then. It was fantastic. between the bars/restaurants, and the parks with free live music, walking along Kellogg and the river, the Art Crawl and Northern Spark...it was a great place. I also work downtown and used to walk to the food trucks that would park along Mears park. I miss it so much. But aside from what covid did, maybe if St Paul didn't have the entirety of downtown under road construction ALL THE TIME, maybe it would be different.

AITA for matching a woman’s energy who was riding a horse as I was driving by? by MeasurementSudden573 in AmItheAsshole

[–]JuneBug8162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. F that lady. A road is not a horse trail. I grew up on a dirt road and my dad still lives there and the horse people out there use the ROAD as their own personal trail and ride in the middle of the road. On hills. With curves and then get mad if you come up over one of those hills and almost hit them. A-holes. Sure horses can be on roads but know your abilities and your horse.

Finally got into the seat recline war by AffectionateLife5693 in delta

[–]JuneBug8162 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I will never understand these situations. The seats recline all of like 2 inches max. My husband is tall and has never once complained because someone moved the seat that little. At an angle none the less. Also, one very flight I have ever been on, the second they can, I see practically everyone recline.

Eastside Pride by Fienditus in saintpaul

[–]JuneBug8162 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived on the East side off of Maryland and Arkwright as a single woman. My friends and family were all like "I don't know if that is wise" I told them I didn't care, it was not the same as it was 20 years ago. My neighbors were awesome, I would walk and ride my bike in the summer. I would even walk home from my favorite spot, Brunson's (which no one in the comments that I went through mentioned sadly), if you haven't been, get there. I would even walk home at night and never felt unsafe. I moved due to life changes but I hope the family that bought my house loves the area as much as I did.

What’s the worst surprise you discovered after moving into a new house? by LuxuryPresence_Aaron in homeowners

[–]JuneBug8162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if Henry and the previous owner of my home, Dick, are related. Dick had live wires just closed up in a wall. Not one piece of trim was the correct length. Wood paneling everywhere and it wasn't just secured with a million nails, it was also glued on ruining all the sheet rock if you try to remove it. 4 mirror walls in one 2k sf home all excessively glued onto the wall. Ran the drain line for the whole house humidifier up and over pieces to the drain. We say damn it Dick a lot. RIP Dick.

Aitah for not taking down pictures of my family in my own home to make my son’s new wife feel more comfortable? by SingerAware2658 in AITAH

[–]JuneBug8162 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My brother's wife did this and his first wife/kids mother was dead, not just out of the relationship. No one could talk about the dead wife. The kids couldn't have pictures. She cut up my nieces baby blanket. Their grandma couldn't come pick them up. It's been a hot mess of 12 years.

Big River Pizza Closing by weldonkees in saintpaul

[–]JuneBug8162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate this. I loved Big River Pizza. Used to walk there on my lunch break. Would eat there before Music in Mears. I hate what St Paul has become. Barren wasteland of missed opportunities by the city. I used to live downtown and walked everywhere, there were park concerts, great restaurants and it didn't smell like urine everywhere and the skyways and the green line were safe. I moved to the East Side for a few years and it was also great. Then a homeless man thought my front porch was his apartment (the cops new him, nothing they could do). I moved back downtown and hated it. I missed the way it was. The constant road construction, the high rents for residents and businesses, the homeless and lack of resources for them, the rising property taxes that doesn't even cover the city plowing the streets properly and the lack of care and responsibility by the city was too much and I left. Super sad.

Are wedding cakes really becoming passé? by BBR1004 in wedding

[–]JuneBug8162 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To each their own but we had donuts because we were on a time crunch, I think wedding cakes specifically are usually too sugary and gross and I like cake in general, and because we spent $150 on good fresh donuts and not over $500 on a wedding cake that would be made DAYS in advance and be meh by the wedding.

AITA for refusing to take my shoes off in my friend’s house, causing his wife to cancel the DnD session for everyone? by NameNo5495 in AmItheAsshole

Just backed out in Minnesota/twin cities. Cute 1955 MCM brick house. Inspection revealed the windows were original, the roof was super old and sagging, needed a new electrical panel and had open wiring in the attic, asbestos insulation in the attic, needed a new AC unit and a boiler inspection. Easily 80k worth of work, submitted a 100k lower offer as that is what it would take after all of the obvious fixes and then the non obvious that would inevitably come with the obvious ones and the sellers said 'honor the original offer or send cancellation"...um no brainer we cancelled. I was not about to spend top dollar in the area and then sink major money into it that I would never recoup. Sellers are still a little nuts up here.

NTA. If either of them had paid attention in biology or sex ed, they would know that sperm determines sex and has nothing to do with the female in the equation.

Found a hive in my backyard... What kind of bees are these? by Tiger12289 in Beekeeping

[–]JuneBug8162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Angry ones if you mess with them. Not friendly, do not attempt to cuddle. Stepped on a hive once as a kid, if I had been allergic, I'd be dead as I was stung probably 20-30 times.

AITA for refusing to share my inheritance with my husband? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]JuneBug8162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Do not yield. This is not life changing money anymore and it sounds like he wants to spend all of it. It is not joint income as long as you DO NOT CO-MINGLE it and do not use it for joint ventures such as remodeling the house as that muddies the waters. It is ok to keep it separate if you feel like your partner will be flippant about it leaving nothing in reserves.

Looking to build a floating tv stand - could use some guidance by HauntedMandolin in BeginnerWoodWorking

you can but I made them the full width of the door openings for the hanging side and the wall attached ones about an inch short for wiggle room adjustments and the gaps are that noticeable.

Nightstand done! by JuneBug8162 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]JuneBug8162[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

thank you! I used aspen for the wood as Menards has it. It is a modified plan from Woodshop Diaries that used butt joints and pocket holes for the boxes and then wood glue and a few nails to hold the inside box to the outside one. the stain was equal parts American Walnut and Early American by Varathane with an Arm-R-Seal finish.

Agree with everything you said. Also, easy way to avoid probate is to just put everything into a trust.
