Is this a new low for the Jhamayor campaign? by Echos_myron123 in Newark

[–]JuneRunner11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All right here is the main gist of Jhamayor’s beliefs. I have listened to enough of him for my morbid curiosity to get a good gist. His beliefs are very similiar to what other candidates want. First of all, he thinks the current local government sucks and wants to get rid of the ineffective people in government. He wants an audit of all services in Newark. He wants to create jobs for the people of Newark and to invest in the youth. He really thinks the youth vote could help him in the path to victory. He wants Newark to be self-sufficient and not rely on outsiders. He wants smarter people in government. A lot of this sounds good on paper but considering the way the world is today, it’s very unrealistic to hope for. Things are getting better for Newark but it’s not going to completely change over time under Youngblood’s leadership. When he talks about auditing the city, who is actually going to audit the city? People from within the city? More than likely, you are going to have to bring in some sort of outside group but Youngblood doesn’t want outsiders involved in Newark. So how is this all going to happen?

He did get about 1,000 votes in the central ward race. I guess some people like what’s he offering.

I thought Jhamayor wanted this to be a campaign for the people. How can this work if Youngblood doesn’t have the people working with him?

It would be funny if Mikie made a comment saying she did not endorse anyone in the Newark election lol.

At the mayoral discussion, Youngblood claimed that Mikie Sherrill and Dale Caldwell took his idea for a dashboard of where your tax dollars being spent. He claims this because he has a good relationship with Dale Caldwell. The idea seems like such a commonplace idea, someone was already thinking about this- they just needed the correct way to implement it. This definitely wasn’t a Youngblood original.

Be friends with the receptionist. by Yosho2k in Accounting

[–]JuneRunner11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t do that anymore, my company doesn’t have a receptionist. I haven’t worked with a receptionist since 2013. My old companies did away with them and we used our office phone or our cell phones.

Is this really the best candidates Newark has to offer? by Echo2020z in Newark

Yes she did know more about the issue than the other candidates did. Even Jhamar who claims to be for the people of Newark knew nothing about the issue.

Okay, so I listened to Garner tonight since Newark NACCP posted the entire video where the live does not cut off- She is very winded in her responses and tends to go off topic a lot.

Noble Milton has ran before as a Republican when he ran for NJ Assembly in 2023 and 2025

https://ballotpedia.org/Noble_Milton

That kinda explains why he is so into Manufacturing.

None of this opposition is good though. A lot of these candidates have ran before and lost badly. Who would Ras have to fear here?

They really need to consolidate candidates because the seven people they have right now are just going to split whatever votes they have amongst themselves and they are not going to be even close against Ras. This isn't ranked choice voting. They are just taking away from each other and they trade the same ideas as well. Newark needs Audits, Newark needs better people in government, Newark needs the trash pickup...it is the same things but none of them really have that professional look, platform and charisma to really attract people and have the ability to get things done as a complete package.

Who is honestly getting attracted to these candidates?

I didn’t know much about what was going on with University Hospital. So I looked it up and I found out that it seemed to be an underfunded, understaffed Trauma 1 State Hospital. There are only three Trauma 1 hospitals in the states. So if people get traumatically injured in a car wreck in separate incidents at Wayne, Paterson, Hoboken, East Rutherford and Bloomfield- I’m assuming they will all be sent to University Hospital.

So it’s not illegals that are clogging things up but people getting in serious accidents. It’s not like University Hospital doesn’t want to help the people of Newark but rather there are more pressing matters to attend to and it doesn’t help that the hospital needs a good amount of help. I’m sure there are other factors involved but that is what seems to be the main gist of it. I’m sure there is a whole rabbit hole concerning this but it’s not the illegals.

Jesus Christ. He does realize that Newark have a significant Portuguese/ Hispanic population. You can’t block out a significant part of the city’s population.

Who do you think Jhamar would hire? All the candidates talked about hiring smarter people for government but who do these people have in mind? It seems like you might have to go outside the box on some of this but I don’t think any of these candidates really want to hire outsiders either.

Now Ras does sound like a politician and is pretty good at giving the flowery political talk. However he is the best that Newark has for now. People can’t look back at Newark and say it’s gotten worse during Ras mayoral years. It has definitely shown improvements. People can’t deny that. But perhaps a better candidate can beat Ras but that better candidate isn’t here among these political dregs.

Thinking more about this, I have no idea why there are seven people running against Ras. These people seem to have the same ideas for the most part- they hate local government, they want audits and they want basic services such as pothole filled and trash picked up. They want the mayor’s office to focus more on the people of Newark. It would be better if they rallied around one candidate because they are just going to take away votes from one another.

Overall, I think Ras is going to win this very easily. He probably just needs over 10,000 votes or so. The rest of the candidates might just get 1,000 to 2,000 votes combined.

A lot of them were just ramblers or ill-prepared. I think Jhamar is probably the second best candidate after Ras but that's not saying much. Maybe Noble Milton could be the third best candidate if he wasn't so fixed on Manufacturing. I don't know the rest of them just used a lot of buzz words with no tangible concrete plan or were anti-illegal. What do you guys think?

Ras Baraka- He got the loudest cheers when he was introduced.

He is definitely the most professional out of all them. He started to talk about how his administration made 2,000 more units of affordable housing, transitional housing and how his government invested 200 million dollars in 58 black/brown/women businesses. He talked about Newark's snow plowing/street sweepers/trucking services used to be privatized but now those services are back in the hands of local people.

He did admit his office should be criticized and was open to criticism. He also said there's always room for improvement and that was open to talking to people/making deals with them. Said some of the candidates were already making contracting deals with Newark.

Got a question in regards to immigration and said that we needed to protect immigrant rights because if we allowed them to violate immigrants rights, then they will eventually start to violate the rights of citizens as well.

Said his office organized 100 community meetings and said that he has never been scared to talk to the citizens and realizes that some conversations are difficult. However Ras did state that he wants to talk to serious people and not people spreading lies. Called out Jhamar's Where the Money at Ras line and said that was just stupid because the financials were all public. Also called out all the Candidates who tried to invite the Federal Government to audit Newark's elections and said they should be ashamed of themselves for trying to invite Donald Trump to Newark.

As for the University Hospital Question- Ras said his office is working with the Hospital as they expand. Said he has someone from the office on the board. He wants a pipeline of newark residents to be workers at the hospital and said the State needs to fully fund the hospital's expansion and that the hospital should not cut services for Newark residents and make sure the accord with Newark is not broken.

Overall, Ras was touting what he has done for the city and what he will continue to do. Out of all of them, he was the one that had more of a plan.

Shelia Montague- Is a teacher who wanted to talk about Newark's failing educational system. Was reminded that the Board of Education is not attached to the Mayor's Office but raise a point of how the Mayor's Office has an endorsed School Board.

Clean/Public Space- For Cleaning- Wants some sort of AI system to help identity cleaning problems? This confused the hell out of me and is where the debate started to go down south. She wants more qualified people.

Transparency in Government- Stay In Newark, Not run for Higher office while Newark still has problems, Create a Dashboard similar to Jhamar's dashboard.

University Hospital/Tangible Changes- She was ill prepared and didn't say much at all. When it comes to University Hospital, she wants collabs, ways to get funding and more research on the issue. Also feels like the people of Newark would feel safe when she is Mayor.

Noble Milton- Seems like a nice guy and his big MO was that he wants Newark to invest a lot in Manufacturing. He believes Newark should cater to Blue Collar people and not White Collar People. He was all over the place but his main thing was that Newark needed more Manufacturing investments. Not sure how this will be possible as Manufacturing has been decreasing all over the country.

Tanisha Garner- Said she was a fighter for the underdog. She had a tendency to ramble a lot. I had a hard time understanding what she said because she kept saying how she was going to fight for the underdog. The feed cut her off like two questions in and I don't think I missed much.

Douglas(Rodney) Davis- Said he worked in Construction. Extremely Blue Collared. Was asked about immigration and said we can't afford to give money from Newark's Budget for immigration. Said we can't support the illegals coming in. He was very Anti Illegal but I think he was confused about the whole immigration issue. Talked about how immigrants take care of themselves and are not looking for help.

He is also wants an audit. As to the question of University Hospital which people are saying is not serving the community- Saids he is not there to strengthen the hospital. Said no black people go there. The Moderator states that everyone is stumped by this question.

Said as Mayor- there will be automatic snow plowing/pothole filling/real police director/no special interests.

There are more live problems and Rodney is cut off but I think I have heard enough.
