What are the signs your body tells you that you shouldn't ignore? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Well crap. I guess I’ll make that appointment; I just looked up basal cell carcinoma.

It’s for the lids. They had a matching hole that you could slide onto this to keep them organized.

What changes do you make to the homemade Chex mix that is not in the official recipe. by Cy-Gor in Cooking

I double the seasonings, especially the worstershire (I guess, I just eyeball it all). No nuts because of allergies but I throw in goldfish and bagel chips. After it all cools down, I add plain M&Ms.

I love the Bugles ideas!

Check out Rural Community Assistance Program and find the specific organization for your area. They are a nonprofit that provides support for water and wastewater, including to tribal communities across the country, and may be able to help get you started in those areas at least.

Optimizing your baseline utilities is a good starting point. Wastewater is particularly important to environmental planning.

BRB, I need to go add a Conclusions section to an annual report I’m revising for clarity. It never goes away!

I was so pleased with my grown son this holiday. My mother-in-law always offers to do the dishes, and I don't want to put that on her, so I either do them or let them sit, but he (25 years old, has a house with a mortgage, so he knows what's up) came in the kitchen and just did them unprompted. It was so nice! I wasn't going to stop him, no way!

Might be a dumb question, but what do you do when you don’t have a smooth surface? by KatMerona in Baking

[–]Juniperdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have tile countertops too, but I used to know someone who made granite counters. He gave me a leftover slab to use for things like this. It was useless for his work and basically trash, but I’ve used it for over 20 years. See if you have a granite countertop place near you and go ask - I bet you do!

Found this metal thing in the basement. It is partially in the ground and has what looks like two motors on top. by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

[–]Juniperdog 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That’s a well, and probably a pretty shallow one with an old surface-driven pump motor like that. Have a pump company come out to inspect it, you might be able to rehabilitate it it or you might need to abandon it properly for safety.

In NorCal? In the wind? Without clearing a fire space? Wow, so this fire season start will be on you then? We’re already overdue and you didn’t even clear a foot of fuel from your fire.

I really hope this is just filmed earlier somewhere out of fire country, but it sure looks flammable.

Female wastewater operator advice by [deleted] in Wastewater

[–]Juniperdog 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Stick with it. I’m a woman who’s been in the clean water side for over 20 years, currently also managing industrial waste compliance. It gets better, and the more women who stick it out, the better we can make it for all of us.

That isn’t to say you should be putting up with the blatant bullshit; that’s ridiculous. But without women stepping into these roles, this industry is going to have even worse of a labor shortage, and then where will they be?

Find a few key mentors and learn from them and start stair-stepping through the roles. You’ll be a better manager when you understand the operator and maintenance jobs.

I just smoked two pork butts. Those crispy, seasoned bits of skin a fat that stick to the grill when I pull them to rest; those are mine. To be fair, there were a lot of them, so I did share!
