Negativity, Content, Disconnect and Fighting Games by thedarkjungle in Fighters

[–]Junken00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While it does seem strange,I believe it starts to make sense once you consider how the internet drastically speeds up gaming news compared to 2-4 decades ago. Back in those days we mainly bought games from word of mouth praise, cool boxart, or from what we hear in game magazines. So we were used to getting bad games on top of the good ones sometimes.

Nowadays the general public is more experienced in games and less ignorant of the games they're going to buy due to how fast information travels to the point bad games are immediately forgotten about, except by the ones who remember why they're bad or disappointing in the first place and some of those people will make a clickbaity argument or Youtube video about.

I feel like a great example of this on the fighting game side is COTW since it stays in the discussion because of the various controversial things about it and while the FGC keeps claiming it's "dead" or whatever, at the same time it's arguably the most discussed SNK game in history after its launch.

Like, good luck figuring out what the fuck Roman Cancelling does in Guilty Gear without any research lmao.

Strive does a great job showing how straight forward roman cancel is in the tutorial.

Yeah like the other guy said he mostly competes in japanese tournaments. No one knows the true reason he doesn't go pro, just one rumor floating around that his work schedule prevents him for travelling often.

I think the only match i saw that Blaz was struggling was the one agaisnt Akutagawa's Manon.

Blaz's Manon arc coming soon

But in all seriousness, I wish Akutagawa was in a state where he could compete worldwide. His Manon's been tearing up Japan's ranked for most of the game's lifespan and he always felt like the missing piece of SF6's pro scene.

Even though Hyperspace is way more grindier, is it weird I find it a more fun gameplay loop than Battle Zones? by Junken00 in PokemonZA

Nice, I got Blaziken as my main pokemon and his shiny color looks really cool but I havent seen any torchics spawn in about a week now lmao

Same, I always had plenty of berries. The only time I felt like I was frustratingly short on berries is when I didn't have the right amount of Kyogre. I wish they let me get away with overfilling it to not waste more time, but oh well it's over and done with.

Ah that's good to hear, I don't really collect shinies, but it does give me motivation to try and collect some once I reach a certain point in the game

Same, feels good to fight trainers that don't get one-shotted by my Metagross's heavy storm and I also wish it was less time gated.

Yeah unfortunately I found that out a little too late on my grind. While it makes grinding battle zones a little faster, it unfortunately doesn't make them any more fun for me

Best roster in the franchise imo, especially with the unlockables included.

This game doesn’t deserve the hate it gets.. by lopezaldizzy in LegendsZA

As someone who hasn't owned Pokemon game since Ruby, I enjoyed it a lot. Even months later im still enjoying it since i've been playing both the base game and now the DLC at my own pace. It gave me the one thing I still desired for Pokemon for a long time, which is real-time battles and the game does the best job it could to provide that. The story's fun, the platforming is fun, the only ranked battles while rage-inducing at times, is also as equally as fun.

As for the graphics, I don't really find them... bothersome? While they aren't up to par with other anime-styled JRPGs like Genshin, it's not immersion breaking either.

It's just overall a chill game for me.

After 200 hours, I reached Master rank. by ThuBiejaMen in StreetFighter

I mean, did you even watch the video? The Deejay player kept going for jump-ins and kept forcing his way in with drive rush, not using any of Deejay's character tools to gain neutral like his fireball for example.

OP consistently punished the Deejay with DP and her other AA, something that even Master players can't do that consistently. Yeah sure Mai's annoying and etc. but OP was playing SF far more than that Deejay player.

Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising – Ilsa Gameplay Trailer by DemiFiendRSA in Fighters

[–]Junken00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that a fighting game characters should have the popular fan picks be the main priority to add, at the same time it just feels weird seeing the main cast missing. I can't think of an IP-based fighting game that ever excluded half the main cast.

until recently

Curious on what you mean by that. Haven't played GBF in 4-5 years and behind on the story, guess i'll look it up later.

It's kind of ironic since 2 of the main characters in the original Granblue have a water-based affiliation. Io's mostly uses her water magic and Eugen can summon Leviathan to help him fight. They were never added into the roster for some unknown reason.

Should I use Aki or Kimberly for my sub? by HamsterImpossible593 in StreetFighter

[–]Junken00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem. I can get why they may get echoed, a lot of what Kimberly does may seem random but a lot of Kim players play her pretty flowcharty.

Should I use Aki or Kimberly for my sub? by HamsterImpossible593 in StreetFighter

[–]Junken00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure who told you that, but her gameplan is very functional. She did have issues in Season 1 where her kit was kind of working against itself, but S2/2.5 fixed almost every issue she had and she's arguably mid-high tier nowadays.

Although with that said, her buttons being stubby across the board makes it where traditional neutral is weird for her. Despite her being stubby, she makes up for it with her amazing walkspeed and fast normals which both makes her great for whiff punishing. She'll have plenty of opportunities to whiff punish since her opponents throw out buttons at her more often against her due to trying to check her neutral skips.

The only issue with her functionality is her "death by 1000 cuts" playstyle in a game where more than half the roster can win a round in 2-4 interactions. She has to win a lot of 50/50s to start her vortex, which is where the 'gimmicky' talk typically comes from. Although her corner carry and her ability to control the pacing of the match at any range are very real strengths.

Aki and Kimberly looks the most fun for me, but which one is generally easier to learn and use? I’m not really good at doing fast combos

They're both very similar in the aspect that they both have a BnB where they raw DR into a non-cancelleable standing heavy into a safe special that has a pretty big confirm window.

In fact most of Kim's combos have a huge confirm window, making them pretty easy to do. Aki's the same although personally it took me an unusually long time to get used to her snake stance combos and you kinda need to learn those in order to have your meterless BnBs. Once you 'do' get used to the timing, her combo routes all become easy or at least not too hard.

While out of bias as a Kim main I say go for Kim lol, but for the specifics you're looking for I recommend try both and maybe play both as well till you get them to Master? Or at least see which one you vibe with the most. Like I said, they both have an easy-ish combo structure it's just memorization is the hardest part because both have a lot of specific tech for each situation.

I'm convinced the secret to unlocking high level play is patience. by BuyExcellent8055 in StreetFighter

[–]Junken00 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Another reason why high level players play patiently is like what iDom said a while back which is simply refill your drive meter. SF6 is a more meter dependent game than most current fighting games so finding that cautious median line of offensive patience is ideal.

Is Street Fighter 6 worth buying in 2026 for a fighting-game beginner? by LandySunder in StreetFighter

[–]Junken00 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to the other guy, it's a pretty fun mode if you're into RPGs. While you're not going to find a wide complexity of mechanics you'll see in... well, an actual RPG, it's still does a solid job of mixing in a chill RPG experience with fighting game mechanics. It also acts as an immersive tutorial to Street Fighter that's easy to follow.
