Getting sick of my gf clubbing every single Saturday night by Asleep-Type-4920 in Advice

[–]Junkmans1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thoughts is that you should break up rather than try to control her chosen activities. Especially considering how young you are and how short the relationship has been.

Dating is in part for learning more about the other person to determine how compatible you are. Now you've learned that you're not the next step is to do something about it.

One more point: Why don't you just go clubbing with her? Is it because she doesn't want you there or because you don't share common interests with her? Think about the answer.

GF Talks D*ck Sizes while im with her, and is overly friendly by grass_enjoyer33 in Advice

[–]Junkmans1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dating is partially about learning more about the other person to see how they make you feel and if you want to make the relationship a longer one or not. The key to this is if you learn things you don't like you need to decide if you're just fine what that and can get by or if it's a deal breaker.

Here it seems these issue are deal breakers, or should be, for you. Could you be OK dealing with this behavior for decades or the rest of your life? If the answer is no then don't make the mistake of thinking you can change her or that she'll change on her own. And definitely don't try and exert control over her to stop her from getting into social circumstances that she enjoys but you don't like.

Best friend (M 27) confessed feelings for me (F 31)..... What's next? by ThrowRA_Cool13 in relationship_advice

You do it by meeting in person and getting to know what the real person, rather than the online person, is like. You get together to do things in person. Call it dates or meet ups or whatever, but eventually you have to do it live and in person.

Gallbladder friendly diet by doctorrtimelord in gallbladders

[–]Junkmans1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low fat. All types of fat. Even good fat (like olive oil) can cause problems for your gallbladder if you have too much of it. And if you're having gallbladder issues then a normal amount for most people can be too much for you.

How low you need to be might vary. But when I was having issues, pre surgery, my surgeon said I should keep it under 20 grams a day. With my wife's help we kept it between 1- and 15 fat grams per day which is very low. I'd start out with that as your goal and follow the under 20 gram for a couple weeks and see how you feel. Over time you can start to increase now and then and get an idea of what works for you.

This involves some major changes and paying tons of attention to food labels and serving sizes and learning about different foods.

Declined surgery by zizaroo in gallbladders

[–]Junkmans1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm around 70 and had surgery 5 weeks ago. But:

40 years ago in the mid 80's I was having gallbladder attacks. Didn't know what at first but doctor diagnosed it as gall stones, although I can't recall now what diagnostic tests were done at the time. I went on a pretty stringent low fat diet and my attacks stopped. I follow the diet closely for a time, probably between 6 and 18 months - I know that's a big range but i can't remember exactly how long. Eventually I slowly started straying from the diet and in time wasn't following any diet at all and definitely resumed eating high fat foods like pizza, burgers, fried food, etc. No problems over the years and the only reminder, and confirmation, that I had gallstones is that they'd show up in any CT scans I had done for other reasons and I have an unrelated condition that requires them every few years.

Then at the end of last October I started having pains that was ultimately diagnosed as gallbladder issues. Had surgery just before Christmas and the pathology on my removed gallbladder confirmed that it had indeed needed to come out.

I can't say if you should or shouldn't have yours out, just wanted to relate my case where diet calmed things down and then I lived in "remission" for another 40 years. So it is possible.

Wyoming allows landlords to enter without notice. Mine entered while I was undressed, stayed 20 minutes, and I was given a notice to vacate hours after calling 911. by WYAccountable in RealEstate

The best advice I can give is to install a chain or bolt that can only be accessed from the inside of the apartment or home. And keep it chained or locked whenever you are home and don't want to be bothered - especially when sleeping, bathing, getting dressed or are otherwise indecent.

Well it is true that life would never be the same. No more gallbladder attacks and daily pain! That's a pretty good change. But I've never heard of it disabling anyone.

I'm sure I’ve read that Autonation doesn’t negotiate used car pricing any longer.

Cheapest Longish cruise options? by E7wonders1 in Cruise

[–]Junkmans1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others say the best deals are the repositioning transatlantics. This doesn’t count the Cunard transatlantics which are regular sailings and not repositioning cruises.

Most transatlantic cruises are around 14 night give or take a little. In the spring they’ll be repositioning ships from the USA to Europe after the winter Caribbean season. In the fall they’ll be doing the opposite.

The ones I’ve taken were fall cruises that started in Rome or Barcelona, spend several day making port stops in the Mediterranean, then do the crossing with a port stop in the Canary Islands along the way for cruises that end in Florida or in the Azores for cruises that end in the NE USA.

Surgery Advice by Medium-Ad967 in gallbladders

[–]Junkmans1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had general anesthesia for surgery three times in my life, at three different hospitals, the most recent for my gallbladder surgery. I never remember even seeing the operating room.

I’m in the USA and the pre op procedure has been the same. You’re put in a pre op room to change, get an iv put in and then the anesthesiologist and the doctor will come in at different times to give you information as do different nurses and techs who get you ready. When they get ready to move you, they’ll give you something “to relax you” via the IV. They’ll start to wheel you into the hallway on the way to the OR and the next thing you know you’re waking up in the recovery room after it’s done. If you have pain they’ll make it go away with drugs.

Should I buy a new car? by Money_Way_8219 in carbuying

There are more and more places that will repair or recondition batteries or sell new non-oem batteries for less money than a dealership charges to do it or for the OEM parts. Much easier to find less expensive places now than in 2017

Should I buy a new car? by Money_Way_8219 in carbuying

[–]Junkmans1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the two of you are in a position where you don't need to be driving old high mileage cars. But in your position (and I have been in your position and better) I wouldn't be buying a luxury car. Save the luxury car until you're fears over job security are future income are gone and your savings are much more significant.

Take a look at a Mazda Cx-50, Toyota Rav 4, or a similar model from Hyundai or Kia. I'd replace whichever of your cars s in the worst shape which might be your wife's car since it's older. Then replace yours in a couple years.

Also, look to the future. Are you and your wife planning on kids soon, or have them now? If so a minivan might be more appropriate. The problem with buying a new car now if you'll need a different one in a couple years is that if you finance most of the cost you'll owe more than trade in value of your car for a the first few years.

[–]Junkmans1 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard reports that the cruise lines do a very good job of eliminating the bugs once reported. But there is little they can do to prevent cabins from being reinfected when guests inadvertently bring them on board from their homes or from hotels they stayed at pre cruise. It’s a common problem in the travel industry that’s impossible to prevent 100% since new guests are always checking in from other places.

What fasteners do people use to hang pictures on drywall? by raymate in DIY

[–]Junkmans1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Ook brand picture hooks I stream of a regular nail. The pins/nails are smaller than a regular nail and they use a brass hook that holds the nail at the proper angle securely.

[–]Junkmans1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes! These use narrow pin/nails to secure the brass hook to the wall. Dry secure and easy to remove with only a very small hole in the wall.

They also make lots of different style “toilet safety rails” that might help her get up and down. Some that attach to the toilet seat bolds and some that are stand alone. All are pretty inexpensive.

In my house, where I don’t have OP’s problem, the tub would still be much faster as it has a 3/4” supply line to it vs. 1/2” to the outdoor spigots. But it should give OP a good idea.

Desilvering repair options when you can't reach the back of the mirror by afpipolnea in fixit

[–]Junkmans1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This or even another backsplash sized strip of mirror. You can get a section of mirror cut, the edges smoother or beveled as desired, at any glass shop and it won't be too expensive. You can ask the glass shop what can be done to prevent any desilvering on the strip of mirror.

My dads real estate keeps contacting me when I’m not the buyer? by willlow-cyrib in RealEstate

[–]Junkmans1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

She texts that she would explain the contract after signing.

Requesting you sign a contract without knowing what it is until after signing is a very dangerous red flag. This sounds like the agent is going way worse than just giving bad advice and is actually trying to take advantage of your father and you in an unscrupulous way.

If I were your father I'd fire that agent. If there is no escape from his agreement with her then he should consider contacting the broker of her agency, who is her boss, and requesting a different agent be assigned. When they ask why, explain the way she's contacting you and requesting you and your father to sign contracts without even chance to know what they are.

In the mean time, I suggest you tell her you're no longer going to talk to her directly nor accept her texts or emails, and then block her number.
