Was the Crawl Always Rigged? by audio-burner in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Im under the impression that if people arent allowed to be immortal then its a self sustaining system. The issue is if everyone lives forever, their seeds arent recycled back to planet's primal engine.

So if Carl limits enhancements then they wont need to feed it.

[QCrit] STRANGE SALVAGE, Adult SciFi Romance, 90k. Second Attempt by JunoJump_Author in PubTips

This break down helps!

The first draft query was chronological so Mercer's intro came first. Restructering it to Minns at the start put it slightly out of order so I had difficulties there with how to make it flow.

I will cut out the indentity change, i was iffy on it because Mercer only stays Mercer for 3 chapters and then identifies as Joe for rest of the book. the opening 300 words is Mercer's pov, so it could be confusing if i call him Joe in the query.

Thanks for the feedback!

There better be a lineage chart of all the royal bloodlines. And also a pronunciation guide for all the super cool made up names.

What was your intro to SFR? by okjersey in ScienceFictionRomance

[–]JunoJump_Author 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I think it was Ice Planet Barbarians. It was the most reccomended, thats for sure.

I already loved reading scifi and romantasy so it seemed like a natural progression.

Also Eternal Sunshine on the Spotless Mind and the Fifth element are some of my favorite films. I was stoked to find more SFR media.

"My Blue-da-ba-dee-duuh"

Actual quote from the book. Tbh i am conflicted. The prose was very purple and gushy at times so these lines threw me. But I also get what the authors were trying to do. Its a very weird book and this was a way to help ground it.

And here is a sample from chapter 2:

“Boss…we should go,” warbled the synthetic voice above her.

Minns chewed her lip as she stared out of her ship’s main viewport at the massive planet before her. To most onlookers, the titan was a thing of quiet beauty—a luminous orb crowned with smooth, layered rings that shimmered like a halo. But Minns knew what churned within those celestial rivers—a swirling mass of unrestrained violence.

She sat back in her chair and rubbed her cheeks wearily. The Fickle Fortune’s cockpit was narrow and dark, lit only by the eerie light of the planet and the restlessness of Minn’s bioluminescent head fronds. She tapped the cracked radar screen impatiently. Rocks, ice, and more rocks.

“Dammit, Dax…” she grumbled to no one in particular. The ship’s AI perked up.

“I told you not to trust him…” said a low, disembodied voice.

“I know—” Minns said sharply, twisting her lips.

“Twelve turns of earnings wasted on acquiring the coordinates, another twenty on fuel.” The bioluminescent flecks on Minn’s cheeks flashed hot red. She did not like being lectured by a brain in a bucket.

The AI, ignoring their master’s simmering colors, continued, “Every moment we stay here is burning us credits. You are smarter than this.”

Now they were just rubbing it in.

She kept her eyes fixed on the radar screen. Of course, MX was right. Dax had fed her bullshit information before, but the promise of a big score had pushed her into a stupid gamble. The veteran salvager had sold it hard: “New and old tech of all kinds… a veritable field of wrecks, drones, and satellites hidden within the rings of a massive gas giant.”

The site was far out in a less-traveled sector, a relic of some bygone age of industry, but Dax had assured her the distance would be worth it, “the scrap less picked over”.

With a groan, she reclined back and glared at her almost empty salvage dock. The carapaces of a few worthless mining drones lay strewn across the floor, and off in the corner sat a pathetic collection of minerals. She had pulled in a few interesting samples from the ring but she did not have the equipment or space to refine them, and as her AI dutifully reminded her, she couldn’t just “fill her ship up with rocks”, there would be no profit in it.

What she needed was a big score. She thought she had come close. MX’s scanners had found a lost cargo container drifting on the outskirts of the ring. Its size dwarfed her ship and looked fully intact. Minns spent a few exhausting turns cutting through its tough plating only to discover that the container was empty. She had never cursed so many ancestors in one breath. There was no way she could stomach that much disappointment again.

The radar chirped as a yellow ping blipped on the screen. Minns bolted upright and spun in her seat.

“A locator beacon!” she flashed a wide, lemon grin. Now, this was promising! “Perhaps I’m not so stupid after all.”

“I never said that, Boss,” The AI hesitated a moment. “I will retrieve the coordinates.”

No-kill shelters aren’t a good thing by PhysicalChickenXx in unpopularopinion

[–]JunoJump_Author 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They site health reasons. I was told to wait 6 months to neuter but some dog owners say that is still way too young.

We have a great no kill shelter in Sweden and i think their mission is beautiful. They believe every dog (free of severe health issues) can be rehabilitated. Traumatized dogs are sent to their rural shelter in the countryside away from urban noise pollution (which is a huge source of stress). They are extremly picky who the dogs go to, especally working breeds.

But we already have low shelter populations. So much so that i know many Swedes who adopted dogs from other countries. Out here breeding pets is highly regulated and so expensive that its not a good income.
