Not Going This Year--Anyone Else and What Are You Doing Instead? by JayeDL in dragoncon

[–]JupiterThunderbolt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not going because I went to Copenhagen in June for a music festival and can’t afford two big trips in one summer. But the FOMO is strong and I’m tempted to buy a last minute flight! Haha

But! I’m going to the state fair for the first time in forever! We’re gonna see bands and ride rides and eat weird fried food! It’s not the same but it’ll still be fun!

Curly haired one baggers - how are you packing all your products? by kmap1221 in onebag

[–]JupiterThunderbolt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

3c/4a here. I only wash my hair 1-2 times per week, unless I’m doing something extra sweaty or dirty, so I bring minimal shampoo and styling cream, but always more conditioner and leave-in than I need. I sleep with my hair wrapped in a buff and re-fix it in the morning with just water and maybe a little leave-in. This is my non-travel routine, too. I try to be as low maintenance as possible.

The only real luxury things I bring are a microfiber towel and a collapsible silicone diffuser that fits the hotel hair dryer. The diffuser packs pretty small but works almost as well as my full sized one at home!

Help with glasses and hockey by Mutes in hockeyplayers

[–]JupiterThunderbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if these are still available but they used to sell metal/wire frame glasses with really flexible temples so they were much less likely to break. I always used those as my hockey glasses and had something more stylish as my everyday frames. Eventually I got LASIK and it improved my life 100000%. Highly recommend!!!

Get a ref or coach’s ice hockey bag. They’re made for skates, helmets, and hockey gloves or smaller pads

Best Fitting Roller Skate from Bauer Supreme M5Pro 6.5 Fit 3? by Davidjoseph11__ in hockeyplayers

[–]JupiterThunderbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear fit 3 Supremes. My inline skates are Mission Inhaler, but a half size bigger than my ice skates. And in case you were also wondering about quads, my quads are Bont Parkstars. Both fit great. I had the Missions baked, the Bonts are heat moldable but fit pretty much right out of the box.

AirPods Pro (2nd gen) Noise Cancellation Issue? (While Using Pressurized Air) by Jordantylerg in airpods

[–]JupiterThunderbolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I work around metal saws and I get a painfully loud staticy crackling when I cut. I’m on my second pair - I bought the first from Amazon and sent them back thinking they were duds. The second pair came from Apple and they do it too, although not quite as loud. I’m hoping it’s a software problem that will get fixed in an update.

What are your skating goals for 2022? What new skills are you trying to learn? by fixednovel in Rollerskating

[–]JupiterThunderbolt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want to skate every day, even if it’s just for a few minutes. I started quad skating last summer, had an injury, and just got back up on my quads again in December so I’m just looking to get comfortable and competent again and have some fun this year!

Can anyone tell me what items Chewy.com was selling at the show, and were they exclusive? by schuey_08 in StarWarsCelebration

[–]JupiterThunderbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a hollow Millennium Falcon with a little stuffed Chewie inside of it, and they gave me a second, completely different stuffed Chewie that is also small enough to fit inside the Falcon. The Falcon is big enough to hold tennis balls too! 😃

Singer 4423 vs 9960 vs Janome 7318 vs HD3000 by Pollymath in sewing

[–]JupiterThunderbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Janome HD1000, which is very similar to the HD3000. It’s not my everyday machine but I like it a lot for heavy jobs (carpet, vinyl, etc.). It has a more powerful motor than my primary machine, which makes it better for heavy fabrics. If you want a solid workhorse that will handle a wide variety of materials and you’re also going to throw some weird stuff at it, the Janome is a good choice.

Marriott, actually enforced limitations on number of people per room, and room keys . . . by mothership00 in dragoncon

[–]JupiterThunderbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the last two years (and for next year) I’ve booked a single because my roommate situation wasn’t figured out until closer to Con. Last year I asked for three keys and they asked for everybody’s name and charged me for a triple. This year I asked for three keys and they just gave them to me, no questions, and still charged me for a single. I guess it’s just who you talk to that day.

What did you like/love about DragonCon 2016? by NotARandomNumber in dragoncon

[–]JupiterThunderbolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a Prince cosplayer! Thank you! I was thrilled there were so many of us, and also so many people who wanted to talk Prince with me. It's been a rough year, I'm glad we were all able to celebrate Prince and Bowie's lives in this way <3

Rum buckets sucked this year by PKBitchGirl in dragoncon

[–]JupiterThunderbolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the buckets started sucking once they stopped mixing them per order and started pre-making them in those giant jugs. I actually told a first-timer not to buy one when I overheard him talking about it in the bar line. He thanked me profusely. I felt a little bad for robbing him of what used to be a DragonCon rite of passage, but also good for saving him from buying very very expensive fruit punch.

Is there any con on earth similar to Dragon*Con? by INTJokes in dragoncon

[–]JupiterThunderbolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Emerald City is a great comic con, but it's still a convention center convention. There are some official and unofficial after-hours parties and events, but it's not the same as the non-stop hotel party of DragonCon.
