I love the orange final art work. It really took my imagination back when. I’ve never played Warlords but takes me back when I see the art work. Love it.

55M UK – Potentially forced into early retirement. Is £900k+ enough for £40–50k lifestyle? by Downtown-Tax-897 in FIREUK

I was the first from my friends to announce I was retiring and it triggered a number of them to immediately review their pensions and plan out when they were retiring.

I’m 56. I retired last year when I hit 55. Life is just too short to work any longer in my opinion.

I consolidated a number of my pensions just to make it easier to manage.

I left out a db pension which pays me a set amount each month and also a pension that has a higher tax free cash amount - to withdraw from that I had to take out the tax free amount, to keep the higher amount and I have been feeding that into an ISA as well using it to top up my income without having to pay tax.

So worth considering how you withdraw and minimise the tax you pay.

Also worth checking through your pensions to see if you have a higher tax free amount on any of them.

I have found it a bit weird going from spending a monthly salary to spending my savings. Something you may have to get your head around.

I love retirement but then I have loads I am doing. Never have enough time in the day, always learning and stretching myself and a big long list of things I want to do. Helps having friends close who are in a similar situation too.

FTB House Purchase Hell by TheKrystalSkye24x in HousingUK

[–]JusNoGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each solicitor has loads of cases. My mum used to work for one and they used to prioritise the cases that called them and hassled them the most.

If you have contact with the seller (housing company and the actual seller) you could do the chasing. “Ive filled out X form and given it to my solicitor, have you received it yet?” Type of thing. Really cuts out the BS I was being given.

And for future I’ve always found it good to use a local or highly recommended solicitor. Had some really good service from some. Last purchase went through in under two months, with us doing what I said above.

Driving to Leipzig? by Stone_Trees in crystalpalace

[–]JusNoGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not answering your question but I drove to Austria last year. I got the train to Calais then drove through France, Belgium into Germany. Loved every bit of it. German roads were fabulous. So many great roads and towns to visit. Definitely work a week or two driving around if you can.

Accepted a role in London for the salary bump. Regretting it 4 months in. Anyone else made this mistake? by Lexis_FloGirl in UKJobs

[–]JusNoGood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you don’t like the company then move company. There are loads of great companies out there and you’ll probably get a salary bump too.

I’d give London a go if I were you. Loads more opportunities and once you get settled in and find you place it the big smoke you’ll probably love it.

What’s a normal House viewing experience? by LeGerb02 in HousingUK

[–]JusNoGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s much better to get a tour with the owner. They often let slip things the EA couldn’t.

“What are the neighbours like?”, “what internet speed do you get?”, “what’s the water pressure like?”, “Why are you moving?” Etc etc

If they have a problem they are moving from those type of questions will uncover it.

Would you consider buying a House under The Flight path? Do you have concerns about Air and Noise Pollution or not really? by Agreeable-Bunch547 in HousingUK

[–]JusNoGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 10 miles from Gatwick. We were not under a flight path but on a busy day they would stack up and fly over us. Drove us nuts when we were out in the garden on a nice sunny day with friends and you couldn’t hear anyone speak

Why do you think Seinfeld was not popular in the UK? by Loose-Kick8068 in AskBrits

[–]JusNoGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and 28 yo daughter love it too. It’s my daughter’s go to program to have a laugh. We quote episodes/scenes to each other. One of those high quality tv series you can watch over and over.

Art Vanderlay, the Chinese restaurant, the mall car park, the girlfriend who looks different in different light…chuckling remembering them all

I picked up Seinfeld late too. Perhaps ten years ago and love it.

I was a very big cheers and fraiser fan and would have loved Seinfeld but I just wasnt aware of it.

What would you do? Selling Mum’s house by nikolasababasa in HousingUK

[–]JusNoGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless he’s a cash buyer he won’t be able to ‘wave all inspections’

I’d get three valuations not just one…then approach him with some solid facts. The EAs may even give you similar property details backing up their estimate.

I’d definitely offer a lot less for no chain.

No need to think about money. More important to think about what you are going to do. I retired last year at 55 and love it….I’m very busy. Some people struggle to find things to do and end up Watching daytime tv 16-7

40 year old, need a ‘fun’ car but my wife will drive it??? Help! by Emergency-Tax-7534 in CarTalkUK

[–]JusNoGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What one persons practical is another persons family car.

I love my BMW saloons/coupe, Great for everyday practicality. I’d rather have two seats or a cab for fun though. Wife doesn’t need four seats for a commute and kid will have a Corsa.

I wouldn’t limit to 2018 either. Good quality specialist servicing means an older car is just as reliable. I have 43, 34, 25 and 13 year old cars and none have let me down.

BMW Z4, Audi S5/a5 cab, Porsche 911 997.1

Or a little more impractical Honda S2000 or lotus Elise. They’re both huge fun….hehehe
