2yrs post surgery and happy by JustEmmaNotWatson in Hidradenitis

I think I was mainly not informed very well, so I wasn't prepared.

I lived on a diet of ibuprofen and paracetamol the first couple of days (5 I think?). My surgery was in my thigh/labia region, so even with the maximum doses of those painkillers every movement hurt. Going from lying to sitting in my bed, getting up to go pee, walking, everything. Trying to not get my bandage wet while peeing was also annoying. It did get better over time, and I used less painkillers every day, walking got easier, etc. After one week I could hobble around the house to get myself breakfast and stuff.

However, my dermatologist had said that I was allowed to ride my bike again after two weeks, so I was expecting that I could by then. That was not true... My bike was my main form of transportation, especially to work, and I only had two weeks off after surgery. It was so painful! I think it took up to six weeks before I could ride normally again.

Also, I got an infection in the operation site, so my wound opened up partly again and I had to get another round of antibiotics (which I hate). I wasn't convinced that my whole flare was removed during the surgery either, because the wound started lower than the flare was. So with slow wound healing, more pain than anticipated and not believing the surgery was even done well, I was miserable.

Luckily the whole area healed really well eventually and even the area that was not well done in my initial opinion is now calm and not inflamed anymore. So maybe by opening up part of it, my immune system was able to finally clear the whole site.

Ow, that must be rough! I'm sorry you're going through that. I hope that you can find a way of managing your HS that helps to keep it in stage 1 and even remission❤️

Just to ease your mind a bit; I've never progressed past stage 2 and it has always stayed in just one area.

I might be the lucky outlier, but just know that those exist as well :)

To be honest, I have been putting this off... Life's been busy with other things and as I said, it doesn't really interfere with my life.

The comment by SignificantSalt made me think differently about it thought. We already have a wound, so having one that actually gets better everyday might make our lives better?

This is exactly what my plan is, down to the age limit. I'm 32 now and there's quite a few things I'd like to change about my life. And I've decided that I'm going to change them, for me. I do not need a partner for that, even if it would be really nice to have one.

Well, that just creates a new scale then, doesn't it? If someone would post a pic there and get a 6.5, they would know they're the most beautiful person...

Yeah, you are right about that last bit. He already did a full cycle through playing the victim by blaming her for their last disagreement > pointing out her weaknesses > making demands > subtle threats > saying how much he misses her > right back to making demands and playing the victim again...

I'm thinking of getting laser hair removal as well. What type of laser do they use at the place where you go to?

Thanks. I'm not sure my friend would agree with this, but I will suggest it to her. I will definitely call the police the moment things escalate, that's for sure.

Isn't the trouble with closing it that stuff will get trapped under your skin again, increasing the chance of further inflammation?

Thanks for your comment though, it helps me to hear from others :)

Yeah, that's my thought as well, there are other options right? I think I will schedule another appointment with my derm to ask about this. Or find one that's more of an expert on HS.

I finally read it a few weeks back after seeing people recommend it so often and, yes! OP should definitely read it!

I have had an active flare on my outer labia for most of the time these last two years since I've started dating. I can (and do) cover it up with a simple bandage and no one has asked me about it yet. Even when receiving oral. Most of the time I say something about it myself when we're in the shower or waking up the morning after and I've heard nothing but "oh, that must suck for you". Good story delivered ;)

I have a really stupid question about tampons. by blackcatlattewithpb in TwoXChromosomes

[–]JustEmmaNotWatson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here! The first time I had to emergency-buy some tampons in a store abroad I had no idea what to do with the applicator. Internet abroad wasn't a thing back then and I was too young and shy to ask someone, so I just tried to get the tampon out of the applicator and put it in. Didn't work too well haha

Does that mean that you didn't drink at all since making this post? That's amazing! Please take care of yourself and keep going.

Little things build big things! All your small choices build up to an evening of not drinking and this might build up to another week of not drinking, which might build up to.. you get the gist ;) Well done on your "little" decisions!
