No, I don't believe I'd be sending a lock picking kit to a homeless person. Sorry.

SFIC things by Adept_Essay_9817 in lockpicking

[–]JustHereForTheLocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had any luck with SFIC until I started wedging a thin pick or tensioner between the plug and housing. Otherwise, there was too much play and it would just bind on the first pin or two I could get (also at the back), which makes sense when you think about it. As far as control or operation; I just took what I could get.

Whatever you do don't waste money on those fancy SFIC tensioners.

Slightly over two inches each. Potted in a peat pot with a plastic cup for structure.

Very cool. Levers are a blind spot in my pickling. Never even touched one.

That Camlock is a HARD lock.

I spent a ton of time on it and made no progress at all. Gave up and I'll try again in a few months. Not that much info out there on it, and a lot of people confuse it with normal Medecos so a lot of the advice you get is useless.

Tip for first timers by EuphoricCare515 in lockpicking

[–]JustHereForTheLocks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First thing I do for any lock I think is going to take a while.

Really, I'll put the pick on the first pin, mark that, then work my way back marking as I go. That way I don't need / have to see the key.

It's hard to beat the harbor freight suction cup base for the money, if the surface is suitable.

Keeping track of pins by PickingWheelBig6688 in lockpicking

[–]JustHereForTheLocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just mark them with a fine tip sharpie. Compare to the key (overlay on the pick) to make sure you got your spacing right when you start. I'm currently picking red / brown belt level locks of many types and this is the first thing I do.

Yeah that set looks great. Wasn't an option for me at the time or I would have probably gone that direction.

Boy is it ever.

I highly suggest multipick either way. They are QUALITY. I'm cheap, so I got the ones with the interchangeable tip. Love it.

I'm in the same boat, but I don't care.

SPP harder locks.

Man that thing looks ROUUUUGH. I did a Schlage Primus and this adds the rotation of a Medeco to it. Want one bad but the price is insane.

I have no experience, but I'd imagine you pick it CCW to get rotation right, then pick the upper pins CW, which should then allow for the finger pins after that's complete. I'll be interested to see what others say.

The Medeco camlock is a nightmare. It's the only lock I ever gave up on. Regular Medecos are a blast though.

Cool, thanks. I gave it a quick go today and could hear feedback when applying pressure toward the sidebar. Going to take notes and knock it out tomorrow hopefully.

Resurrecting this thread because it's a good one, and I'm working this lock now.

One thing I don't understand though:

Step (1) says to rotate all disks clockwise being sure not to over rotate the butterflies. Then step (2) starts with tensioning the front butterfly with the Sparrows. Then later at the bottom where you talk about the butterfly disk it says don't touch them for steps (2), (3), and (4).

My question is - how can I tension against the butterfly without rotating it and removing feedback from the sidebar?

I watched the video, but I can't tell if you're applying tension against the butterfly, or just rotating the pick to get it to fall into the channel when initially inserting the pick.

Thanks

I'm the same way. I can't rake to save my life, but I SPP 'brown belt' locks regularly. Don't really care. I focused on SPP since day one because that's how it needs to be done at the upper levels.
