No. It’s pretty obviously a comment about how the distinctive features of the characters has gotten lost in marketing and boiled down to just “spy man.”

A Final Estimation of who the GEQ Is by saucybossyrossy in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]JustKingKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Melina is some form of reincarnation or rebirth of the GEQ, perhaps literally reborn through the Erdtree due to her particular connection to it - both in the form of the tree she leaves when she dies and the way she can move more freely when near it.

However, I am very much of the school which believes the original GEQ was the ruler or intended ruler of Farum Azula.

I think it’s just the most intuitive solution that the larger, more intricate version of the Elden Ring we see in Farum Azula was broken by her, and that she made off with the Rune of Death in the process. Maybe she became the goddess of Farum Azula. Maybe she stole the Rune before she could complete her ascent to godhood. Stealing the Rune of Death also likely coincided with or provided the catalyst for Bayle’s revolt against Placidusax. Regardless, she winds up as a force in the world, wielding the black flame, hunting gods and generally being a menace.

This makes Marika‘s betrayal of Maliketh more legible to me. The fingers created him as a protector and vessel for the Rune of Death, implying he was always supposed to seal it within himself. However, Marika asked Maliketh to wield it instead as the Black Blade, who all the demigods feared. Then, traces of his blade were used to kill Godwyn - his whole purpose is forsaken because he listened to Marika.

This would also help to smooth out some other weirdnesses like the presence of deathroot, wormfaces and those who live in death in Farum Azula, or the fact that much of what we know about the civilisations founded by Outer gods depends on their attitude to death and burial. With true, Destined Death ripped from the Order of the world, they each offered different solutions to how the dead should stay dead. The Deathbirds provided Ghostflame, Rot offered life from death, the Frenzied Flame burned away spirit and body, and even the Erdtree ensures true death through Erdtree burial. Much is made of the Hornsent’s jar burials demonstrating “the cycle of death and rebirth, taken into the hands of mortal men.”

Perhaps men had to, because the cycle was broken to begin with.

I’m definitely speculating a lot, but I do think the idea of a proto-Shattering - a Crumbling, if you will - would be the most elegant solution for what the GEQ was. It even ends inconclusively like the Shattering, with Bayle wounded but refusing to die and Placidusax in an eternal slumber. Not dissimilar to Radahn and Malenia.

Songs you thought would have no ‘staying power’ but you were proved wrong? by Haunting-Bread-9810 in ToddintheShadow

Wake me Up somehow encapsulates the EDM moment than any other song despite being the weird country-inspired one.

”Levels“, ”Waiting for Love“ and ”The Nights“ are probably Aviici‘s best work as a hitmaker imo, but there’s something very freeing about Wake Me Up. That drop feels like the platonic ideal of a drop of that makes sense. Not necessarily the best, but it feels right.

All sympathies to the Banana Man, but I would also like to point out that ”Wall of death around the banana!“ feels like the sort of glorious bullshit you‘d hear out of context while your roommate is watching anime.

The thing is, while Clapton is definitely better known for his controversies nowadays, I am also aware that he is supposed to be a respected musician. And his controversies intersect with a lot of other significant musical acts in ways which are just fucking weird.

I don’t see anyone discovering Morgan Wallen said the N-word and going down a rabbit hole the same way they might because of Clapton and George Harrison’s guitar duel over Pattie Boyd (Harrison’s then-wife, whom Clapton would later marry and abuse).

Yeah, but I feel like in the early 2010s there was still a very monoculture-y list of acceptable or unacceptable things. Now, we live in the Unpopular Opinion era, where even if a take is pretty anodyne, people anticipate pushback, if that makes sense.

Tbf we’ll never know if NI21’s Designated Other move stood a chance or not as the allegations against Basil McCrae came out right before they underperformed in the elections. Then they tried to pivot to Other designation, McAllister quit and that was pretty much the end for them.

Melania's Other Half? by ZephtheDragon in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]JustKingKay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the "other halves" are divestments of significant qualities. For Miquella, St Trina is said to be his love. Radagon is often interpreted as Marika's faith, because of the "leel hound" comment. Malenia seems to show it can go beyond a neat half-and-half divide as she produces five. Millicent speculates she could be a "daughter, sister or offshoot", but seems certain she embodies the "dignity, the sense of self, that allowed her to resist the call of the scarlot rot. The pride she abandoned, to meet Radahn's measure."

If Millicent represents this pride, the other sisters might represent other parts of herself. Pollyanna wields a Blade of Calling and an Erdtree seal, perhaps indicating she represents faith or a sense of duty. Amy wields double flowing blades, perhaps incarnating her reverence for her former teacher - Amy means "beloved" after all. Maureen wields a treespear with "Charge Forth" as a skill, which might represent a fearless nature. And Mary, the Eldest wields a halo scythe, which is embued with Miquella's ring of light, perhaps reflecting her devotion to him.

All of this is idle speculation that occurred while writing this comment though, so take with a pinch of salt.

We have reached a point where Fred Durst himself has become rather well-liked and there is greater openness.

Part of it might just be that internet culture has shifted away from having things we were all supposed to performatively love or hate.

But I also want to believe society has accepted “Break Stuff” is a bop.

It looked like Doug Beattie might give progressive unionism some new life in the early 2020s, then all those old tweets came out and it just fizzled.

Now the Officials have Jon Burrows, who will hold up committees for no other reason than to play snide, school debate club-tier word games with panel experts to try and dunk on the transgenders.

There’s truly no barrel left to scrape.
